Ah, well I'm done.

I must say, it is interesting to see your writing in a piece that is only punctuated by comedy instead of wrought from humor. Very good, as always.

The shadows do inflict quite the gore, though, eh?

Thanks Chuk.

Yes, this story did try to balance humor a little better within the more serious plot -- something I don't tend to achieve with my short works at all. Eventually, I'll have to try writing a sequel, or something else of comparable length to this.

As you know, I don't tend to emphasize gore and violence much generally, so it was intended to be somewhat shocking in its inclusion and placement here. I'm not sure if that effect worked particularly, but at least the extreme viciousness of the shadows came through!

I much appreciate you taking the time to read it and comment!

It has come to my attention (thanks Rigg) that the companion thread to "The Word!" is not showing up in a forum search since its recent move to the new "Clan Home" location. That move has also changed its quick-find code of course, which results in the thread disappearing from peoples' profiles.

However, you can re-establish contact with the chatting writing community at 90-91-160-55671383 (or better yet, join the in-game discussions under my name). There are usually a number of writers on at all times.

Thanks very much!

Out of nowhere, a tree near the center of the town erupted into flames. It was a diversion! In just a couple of minutes, the harbor was completely clear of guards, all of them running to the most obvious point of excitement and possible crime.

Nildi peered towards the smithy as he struggled with the second mooring rope, but he could not see the wizards. Then with a mad dash, three tall, robed shapes erupted from behind the building and ran like the wind towards him.
