As they went down the tunnel there was no sound but their own footsteps, thumping softly along on the dry ground.

Suddenly Teegan stopped.

"Wait guys, there might be something really dangerous down this tunnel. If you don't want to be killed, draw your weapons."

"Good idea," said Sukrae, his voice echoing slightly in the tunnel.

Teegan drew her dragon dagger and Taena did the same, while Sukrae drew his strange swords with the runes on the hilts, runes that glowed slightly in the soft light from the torches.

The sisters looked at each other, and in that glance decided not to question Sukrae about his weapons. As they started off again, Taena noticed they they were going steadily uphill.

Will we come out of a cave in the wild? She wondered, as the torches seemed to dim and flicker, but soon the even light was back and she wondered if she had imagined it.

They plodded steadily onward; it was a very long tunnel with many curves and twists.

Then Sukrae stopped.

"There's something up ahead!" he said excitedly.

"Are you sure?" Teegan asked, her voice slightly dry from lack of water.

"I think so," Sukrae answered.

They went on until both the girls could see it too, sort of a dim glow up ahead. They hurried to see what it was. As they approached, Taena's torch shone on something.

"Water!" she said, and stooping down, she drank.

"Taena stop that!" Teegan said, "For all we know it might be poisoned or something!"

"I don't think so; nothing's happening to me," Taena said, frowning.

"I've got some antipoison anyway," said Sukrae, bending down to drink.

"Oh, all right," Teegan said, doing the same as her companions. After they had all drunk, they stepped over the small stream and went on.

"There's a cave up ahead!" said Taena, happily going to it.

The cave they found themselves in was large, with many smaller cave openings around the walls about six feet up. There was a small log fire in the middle of this room, and that was what the glow had been coming from. Over on one side of the cave was a small orb of crystal, suspended about twelve feet off the ground.

There was no sound but the crackling of the fire, the slight splashes of the stream they had left behind, and the breathing of the three in the cave.

"Hello girls," said an unfamiliar voice. "Who's your friend?"

Everybody jumped, and Teegan and Taena turned around and looked back into the darkness of the tunnel they had just come out of.

"Nope, I'm not over there, try again!" said the voice, mockingly.

"There's somebody watching and talking to us through that crystal ball," said Sukrae, figuring it out.

"It's not just somebody; it's Kerr," Taena stated flatly, with a muttered curse.

"How observant you are!" Kerr's voice came through the ball. "This is nice, don't you think? I can see and hear you, but you cannot see me."

"How did we guess," said Teegan dryly.

"Kerr?" Sukrae asked.

"Yes? I'm listening," Kerr answered, still laughing at them.

Taena rolled her eyes as Sukrae told Kerr about his "stop killing or I'll kill you" plan.

When Sukrae had finished there was a minute of silence, and then laughter came from the ball.

"Yeah, right!" said Kerr, still laughing.

"I told you he wouldn't listen to you," said one of the sisters.

"Well, now I'm trying to kill him too, so we're all together," said Sukrae, glaring at the crystal.
