She felt a faint flutter in his wrist that steadily grew stronger.

"He's still alive!" she yelled to Taena.

"Wonderful!" Taena yelled back. "Little help here?"

Teegan looked over and saw Taena backed into a corner, fighting off zombies. Teegan didn't want to leave Sukrae, but Taena looked hard pressed, and Teegan quickly made up her mind.

"I'm coming!" she cried to her sister, and ran to the attack.

Coming from behind the zombies didn't even see her; all of their attention was focused on the tiring girl in front of their bloodshot eyes.

Teegan lifted her dagger and plunged it into the neck of a zombie that was in her path, and with a horrible dying moan it collapsed, its dark red blood staining the cave floor. Teegan jerked the dagger out and kept going, her eyes glowing with anger.

The other zombies hadn't seen the death of their companion and still had their heads to Taena. Teegan changed that, as with a yell she started slicing her way to Taena, her dagger whipping around with frightful consequences for the zombies, many of whom fell dead under her blade.

At last she reached her sister.

"Thank you," Taena panted.

"No problem," replied Teegan with a quick smile at her twin, dancing out of the way as a zombie clumsily swung at her.

With a single glance at each other the sisters ran to the sides of the pack of zombies, and slashed their way out of the confines of the corner.

Now zombies are not that quick on the uptake, being the animated heaps of dead flesh that they are, and it was a while before they figured out where their prey had gotten to. In that period of time the girls managed to inflict a heck of a lot of damage on them.

However, they soon saw where the sisters were and began a slow march toward them.

"Not that agile, are they?" Taena observed, watching the zombies.

"Not very," agreed Teegan.

"You get them to look at you, ok?" Taena spat quickly, and without waiting for an answer started sneaking around the wall, toward the back of the line of zombies.

Teegan let out a fake moan and pretended to faint. The zombies kept going toward their victim, encouraged by the fact that the girl wasn't moving.

As the first of the pack got to Teegan, she jumped up and swiped her dagger through its neck, just as Taena attacked from behind.

The zombies never had a chance, since their clumsy, slow moving attack just didn't work against the twins' fast daggers. After it was over, the sisters stood alone in the middle of a sea of mangled, twisted bodies.

"Well," Taena said, "we just killed a whole lot of dead people!"

Teegan was silent, looking at the contorted arm of one of the zombies at her feet. She hated killing and, even though the zombies had attacked them first, she still felt bad.

Over in the corner, Sukrae let out a groan and tried to sit up, and Teegan forgot all about the zombies in her concern for him as she rushed to his side.

"Are you ok?" she asked, reaching him.

"Not that good, but still functioning," Sukrae answered, making an attempt at a smile. "I'll be fine in a bit."

"Great!" said Teegan, suddenly realizing how much she cared for this man.

Sukrae felt awful; he had a splitting headache, and his shoulder felt like it was on fire. He tried to lift his arm and pain went up and down it; and he grimaced.

"What exactly happened there?" he asked Teegan, who was looking at his wound worriedly.

"A zombie jumped out of the wall, stabbed you with a dagger, and then you fell over and smacked your head," Teegan answered. "How does your shoulder feel?"

"Not very good," he responded, trying to close his hand without a flash of agony. "Shoot!" he suddenly said.

"What is it?" asked Taena.

"If something else attacks I'm not going to be much use."

"Why?"

"I'm right handed, and I'm not too sure if I can cast spells left handed."

"Do you have something else you can fight with?" Taena asked. "That is, if we have to fight anything more."

"Well I have my swords, but I'll have to only use one of them."

She looked grim.

"I hope Kerr doesn't have any more beasts in store," she said, but at that moment Teegan glanced up from his shoulder.

"This looks bad," she announced, sounding scared. "Do we have anything to use for a bandage?" Sukrae frowned, thinking.

Then he looked up and, with his good arm untied the strip of cloth that kept his hair in place.

"Can you use that?" he asked Teegan.

"I think so," she said, still worried.

Teegan looked up at Sukrae as she tied the cloth over his wound.

She thought he looked quite cute actually, with his hair let down so it fell over the left side of his face. Then she snapped out of her trance.

"Later!" she told herself; right now she needed to dress his cut so that they could try to get out of this horrible place.

"Well, that's as good as I can do right now," she said briskly, looking at the job she had done.

A rumble shook the cavern and a rock fell from the wall, very nearly landing on Taena.

"What the heck was that?" she exclaimed, jumping to her feet just as the cave shook again and more stones fell.

"Let's go to the middle," Teegan suggested. "Then we won't have so many rocks falling on us."

Taena considered this, "Good idea," she said "Sukrae, can you walk?"

"Yeah I think so, it's my arm that hurts not my legs," he stated, standing up, rather shakeily. "Yep I can walk," he said, moving toward the center.

The rumble came again, much louder and a huge boulder loosened and fell from the wall next to Teegan.

"What is it, an earthquake?" asked Teegan, jumping away, puzzled; and then she looked at the place the rock had come from, gasping at the sight of a huge claw, coming through the wall and steadily widening the opening that it had made.

"Taena, look at the wall," she said, calmly.

Both Taena and Sukrae turned and stared.

"Of all the dirty, rotten luck," Sukrae said, "it's a demon."

"Are you sure?" Taena asked, her voice growing steadily louder as she stared; horrified at the growing hole.

"Quite sure."

"Then what are we going to do," she yelled, panicking

"Everybody calm down," pleaded Teegan, who had been thinking about what to do.

"Sukrae you're not going to be much help on the ground so come over here." She moved to the far side of the cave.

"Ok," said Sukrae.

"Taena, you come over here too, alright?"

"Fine," said Taena, still slightly panicked but having gotten over most of her fright.

"Ok then," Teegan said, "I have a plan."
