Yeah, if we're speaking the long-term, genres would run out more quickly than themes.
Lastly, it didn't even have to be that. The theme can be just 'A grand oak tree'.
As you said, with betrayal, the most obviously and straight forward thing for a writer to do is to write in a scene where people betray each other - which will earn them a fail.
The Cuckoo is a better thing to write if you wish to explore how this bird knocks over all the other eggs in the nest, and be fed by their parents, and be able to relate this to the real world.
