_-(Chapter 23 Continued)-_
“Dekker of North-Keep, come with me.” The figure said.
That was a name Dekker hadn’t heard in a long time.
“How do you know my name?!” Dekker shot back.
“I know much, and you must learn it.” The figure responded.
“Now, come.” The figure said. Dekker began to say something, but was swallowed by a pillar of smoke, and disappeared.
Dekker awoke, finding himself in a cold and dark room. It had no windows, and was lit by purple flames, rising from torches on pillars along the sides. It was a massive room, long and thin. Dekker looked up, and before him he saw a throne, so bright with gems and gold he squinted. Upon the throne sat the figure, it’s two glowing eyes staring back at him.
“Uhhhg…” Dekker moaned as he got up.
“Where am I?” He asked.
“Nowhere, you could roam forever and never reach here. This is my realm now, a dark empty world. I have waited for many ages to be free of it.” The figure said.
“Why am I here then?” Dekker asked, in a slightly sarcastic tone.
“Are you being bold or foolish when you speak to me?
Do you know not that I am a god?”
The Figure asked.
“A god? *gasp* Zaros…” Dekker broke out, but died down into a whisper.
“Now you have taken a small step into truth, I will take you on a journey into it.” Zaros said.
“Me? Why me?” Dekker asked.
“I have chosen you, do you resent that?” Zaros asked.
The full force of where he was finally caught up with Dekker, chills ran up his spine, and he could barely breathe.
“No… I… just don’t understand.” Dekker said in a submissive voice.
Zaros rose, dark smoke poring onto the floor like waves as he approached Dekker.
“Many things… You don’t understand.”

“Within a man, there is power, often that untapped power is far greater then the power one can see on the outside. That is why I chose you, I could have chosen a warlord, a king, or a knight, but they do not wield the power you have, within. In you, I see my warrior; you will become my crusader of truth.” Zaros spoke in a commanding tone.
Zaros spoke to Dekker for a few more minutes, telling him the pure truth, and erasing the lies that clouded Dekker’s head.
When Zaros stopped speaking, Dekker could feel his inner strength. He could see that Zamorak must be defeated. He was ready.
Zaros returned to his throne, and sat. He looked at Dekker with his glowing eyes, which no longer frightened Dekker, but amazed and inspired him. Zaros spoke softly:
“You must know the full truth; that monster, that soulless and honor less fool, that uncaring spreader of lies… Zamorak… He… Was my son.”
CHAPTER 24
Journeys Beginning
Dekker opened his mouth to speak, but Zaros interrupted.
“All that needs to be said has been said. We speak of this no more.”
Dekker closed his mouth and took a deep breath while his mind raced to put all the pieces of this information together. He struggled to think clearly, in the last few minutes, all he knew about history, the gods, and Gielinor itself had changed. His mind needed time to process it all.
“Dekker, you WILL be my right hand in this, and you WILL do well.” Zaros spoke almost as if he was asking Dekker for his permission, but Dekker knew there was no question, and his personal feelings meant nothing now, HE had been chosen… by a god…
Dekker felt a surge of life through his body, all his life, he had searched for meaning, for a purpose, and now he had it.

“I WILL not fail you.” Dekker blurted out.
“You, will not fail YOURSELF, that is why you will succeed. You are not my servant, I need no more servants, I need a partner. Dekker, in your hands I place the fate of Gielinor. There will come a day when I will return to that realm, until then, YOU are my will, my messenger, and my warrior. You will also have what’* left of my power in that realm.” Zaros said, he then reached his ghostly hand out, and put it on Dekker’s right soldier, over his scar.
Dekker felt a jolt, then a blast of searing pain. He fell to the floor, the pain so intense he could not control his body. He squeezed his eyes tight as the pain rippled through his body. Dekker let out a roar of pure emotion, his body pumping adrenaline, and his heart racing. The pain faded, and slowly he opened his eyes, he was back in the rune store. Martin was staring at him with his mouth wide open.
Aubury got up,
And Martin yelled:
“Dekker! Wait Aubury?! What? You’re dead!”
“No, I’m not sure what happened, it wasn’t death, but I left… my body… a voice spoke to me… you!” Aubury pointed at Dekker.
“You… you… you are… I am here to help you, I am STILL HERE, so I can help you.
I was spared… to help you… I… I… I…” Aubury had the look of shock on his face; the traumatic experience had clearly affected him. He took a shallow breath, and sat down on the floor against the wall, eyes open as wide as they could be.
Farkreie got on his knees and bowed to Dekker,
“You have been chosen, you serve him, so I shall serve you.”
He said in a calm and reverent voice.
“I’m not sure…” Dekker stopped speaking, strangely, he WAS actually sure, it all seemed clear. He had a mission, and he was going to do it.
“Good, I need your help.” Dekker said, feeling more confident than he ever had since this all began.
“What just happened?!” Martin yelled, “You disappeared for like a second, and now your back, and you’re ‘Chosen*?!*

“What do you mean a second? I’ve been gone for at least a dozen minutes!” Dekker said, addressing one part of Martin’s question at a time.
“Have you lost your mind? Oh wait, of course you have! You lost it before I met you!”
Martin shot back.
“I ha-“ Dekker was cut off by Aubury.
“You’re both right! Now shut it!” He yelled.
He had apparently regained his senses… and his temper.
“What!? How can we both b-“ This time it was Martin who was cut off by Aubury.
“Time! It’s no way to judge things! Time is irrelevant, a brief moment here, could be 15 minutes wherever he went! I’ve been working on teleport spells to other realms, and I’ve learned that time is subject to be bent from different perspectives.” Aubury said.
Martin was intrigued, even in his stressed state, his love of new knowledge and curiosity caused him to ask numerous questions.
“So did Dekker age 15 minutes more than we did?” He asked
“No! errmm, no** Aubury’s temper died down.
“He, well… the easiest way to put it is he *traveled in time’. When traversing between two realms, a small bit of you stays in the ‘Anchor’ realm, which is the realm you came from. Not a small bit like a hand, but a small part of your living energy, so little it has no effect on you. So even though he experienced 15 minutes, in this realm, it was a moment, thus, he ages only a moment, like all of us.” Aubury explained, he was smiling, as he loved to give this lecture.
“So if I-“ Martin started, but was stopped.
“We do not have the time, nor do I have the patience to have this useless conversation. Aubury, you must help up decode the stone.” Farkreie burst out.
“Uh… yes… of course! Ahem, let’s see here.” Aubury began writing notes on a piece of paper, and a few moments later, he proclaimed: “I’ve done it! The emblem, it’s a compass; you start at the grand city, and head south.”

“What grand city? Varrock?” Dekker asked.
“No no, when this was made, Varrock did*’t exist, it must be the ancient city at the dig site.” Aubury said.
“I found this at the dig site!” Martin said, showing the first bit of enthusiasm he had since they arrived at the rune store.
“Yes, that makes sense. The Sleeping Army is located somewhere south of the dig site, and if I’m correct, that someplace is in the desert. Many of Zaro’s remaining allies dwell in the deep south desert.” Aubury said.
“Then we leave at dawn tomorrow.” Farkreie commanded.
“Where do we sleep?” Dekker asked.
Martin stood for a moment, wrestling with his feelings. He wanted to be done with this more than anything, but this stone, this key, was not just anything, and he could not let it go.
“You… you can stay at my place.” Martin said in a reluctant voice.
*Ok, we must go now; you need your rest for tomorrow.” Farkreie said.
He turned to Aubury: “You are to never speak of this visit to anyone.” He said
“I understand.” Aubury said, clearly intimidated by Farkreie.
The arrived at Martin’s small place and Martin gave Dekker a blanket to sleep on the floor. He offered one to Farkreie, but he declined. Farkreie then went to a corner, and closed his eyes. “I do not sleep like humans, I hibernate. Now go to bed… and Dekker… pray you do not fail, you cannot possibly comprehend the scale of this responsibility."
CHAPTER 25
Dreams
Dekker closed his eyes, and drifted off to sleep. He awoke in a small hut made of animal hides and held up by crudely cut support beams made from branches. He got up, and looked at his hands; they were covered in cuts and bruises. He looked around as he exited the tent; he was in the wilderness, the bandit camp, North Keep, where he grew up. He caught his reflection in a muddy puddle; he was young, about 19. He remembered this camp very vividly, and everyone who lived here, after all, they raised him.

“Dekker!” A man yelled as he sprinted towards him.
It was Ket’Bur, the camp elder.
“You reckless, brute! Do you know what you’ve done?” He yelled.
“What!?” Dekker replied, still confused.
Then it became clear, he remembered this.
*That man you robbed! He was one of the King’s advisors! They’ll hunt you down!”
The old man yelled.
“I’m sorry! I did*’t know! I just needed some money for food! Don’t banish me! Please!”
Dekker cried out, he was not in control, this was a memory.
“Banish you?! Banish you!? Ha! Are you crazy boy! I’ve never been more proud!”
“Wait, what?” Dekker shot back.
“No man ever succeeded in life by following the rules, if you want to have something, you go out, and you take it! No one will ever hand it to you. You have to disregard fear, and take charge. You have taken the first step towards success, take what is yours, take from the weak, so you might be strong!”
Dekker’s eyes shot open, he was laying in Martin’s apartment once more. It was that speech Ket’Bur had given him that led him down a dark path to a life of crime. It was Father Septimis, who had found him, and saved him.
Dekker rolled onto his side, and tried to sleep. He wound need his rest.
CHAPTER 26
Loyalty Changed
In the morning Dekker awoke to see Farkreie doing something strange with a silver rock.
“What is that?” Dekker asked, in a tired tone.
“Nothing you must know about, I may be your ally, but I am not inclined to answer your questions about my kind.” Farkreie replied
“Fair enough” Dekker said, he realized that Farkreie was not the kind of guy you could reason with.
“Martin! Martin, get up!” Dekker said as he nudged Martin’s shoulder.
“Mmmmuuuggghhh…what?” Martin moaned.
“The sun is barely even up…” Martin whined
“Then we are getting a late start, get up Shik’ah.” Farkreie said
“What’sa Shik’ah?” Dekker asked?
“Lazy person, forgive me, I forget I’m surrounded by humans who only speak their simpleton language.” Farkreie replied.
Martin rolled his eyes, “Whatever.”

About two hours later they were entering the desert, Dekker bought some water skins, he offered one to Farkreie, but Farkreie declined.
As they made their final preparations to head out into the unforgiving southern desert, a figure appeared on the horizon.
“Dekker, surely you know this is a mistake.” The figure called out.
Dekker spun around, he recognized the man at once, “Good to see you too.” He yelled back. It was Father Septimis.
“How did you track me down?* Dekker said as Septimis drew closer.
“You think you are the only one who has a master? Yes Dekker, I know of your talks with the Empty Lord, Saradomin has told me. Dekker, please, there is still time, repent, Saradomin can save your confused soul.”
“I have seen the lies of Saradomin, I have been shown the truth, you are the one that’s confused.” Dekker replied.
“I know the truth, and I know what I must do, although I really hate to have to do it, I really liked you, you were like a son to me, but alas, times, and loyalties change.” Septimis said in a thoughtful voice.
Septimis raised his fist, and twenty or more White Knights appeared on top of a hill.
“You should be proud, Saradomin himself ordered your death.” Septimis said.
