~-~ Chapter 1 ~-~

Logaen gaped and staggered backwards, almost into Saradomin. This was unbelievable. Bydor had taken the staff? Saradomin was almost powerless now. Sure, he had some skills, but his true ability centered in the Staff. "I had no..." he stammered, unable to find coherent words. His heart pounded like a war drum in his chest, and a restricting lump obscured his throat.

"Worry not Logaen, I had no idea either. But we will win my staff back. Come, we must act quickly. We must get to your brother, for starters." The newly resurrected god simply shook off the problem with a shrug. Surprise and perplexion swirled in his mind before he realized that Saradomin did not have time to dwell on matters.

"Do you know where he is?" Logaen blurted out hopefully. Worry and fear for Saine had constricted and churned his thoughts ever since they had been separated.

"That I do. He is safe..." Saradomin began, and Logaen let out a long, slow breath he hadn't realized he was holding. The darkness of the cave seemed to lift, unseen light filtering into his mind to brighten his mood after the shock of Bydor's treason.

"..with a large group of rebels in Edgeville," he finished. "I can get us there in an instant, as well," he added. There was a merry twinkle in his gray eyes that dulled their original sternness.

He stepped out of the glimmering coffin with surprising agility for a man of his age and placed a hand ofl Logaen's shoulder. The world began to spin, fading into the desolate, barren outpost of Edgeville.

"Halt!" a voice snapped instantly. Logaen could feel the cool metal of steel against his neck and the bite of the honed edge into his skin. A line of fire streaked across his neck. He bit his lip and remained motionless.

Suddenly, joyous laughter broke the rigid tension in the air. "Logaen!" Saine's voice shrieked in excitement. "Let them go, Morian, it's my brother!" The blade left his neck. He stumbled blindly forward into his brother's embrace.

"Saine..." he mumbled into his brother's shoulder. He drew away with a grin. "I got Saradomin!" Saine's gaze left Logaen's and turned to the smiling elderly man, who shifted under the scrutiny.

Saine frowned. "Where's Bydor?" Logaen sighed, eyes downcast.

"Bydor..deserted us. However you care to put it. In simple terms, he stole Saradomin's staff. I'm guessing he ran off to Zamorak with it."

"But he was..."

"Yes, Sir Amik's top general. Things like you'd never believe happen in dark times," Saradomin's calm voice broke in. "But you mus*'t dwell on what is past, for the future is what we can change. We must use the present for this. Now, from what I know, this is the largest rebel group, connecting all the smaller ones, true?"

General Fox strode forward, eyes narrowed, brow furrowed. He bowed deep and low, flourishing his cape.

"This is indeed what I would consider the top rebel group. And now," he smiled broadly, showing gleaming white teeth, "we have the last piece of the puzzle. Now, we can attack." He whirled to face a sentry boy.

"Go alert the generals!" he snapped urgently. "We will meet in the main cavern, in five minutes." The sentry bobbed a bow and vanished through the trap door. Fox swiped his stringy hair out of his eyes as he bowed again.

"Come, my Lord," he murmured, all politeness and charm now. "We have much to discuss."

Minutes later, all ten generals gathered around the sputtering fire. Crowds and packs of rebels, soldiers, lined the walls out of the range of the light. The constant rustle of clothing alerted those in charge of their presence, but it mattered not. All was well now. Saradomin stood before his disciples, a determined gleam in his cloud-colored eyes.

"My followers, I must begin with laud for your courage in defying my horrendous brother, and for forming a spectacular resistance here."

There was a pause as many soldiers clapped, cheered, and hooted. Saradomin waited, the corners of his mouth quirking, and when it died down he continued.

"That said, we must now plan for how to combat Zamorak. His reign is fierce. People do not like to live under an iron fist. I can assure you that goodness still rules the souls of our people. They just wait for those brave enough to begin the fight. Those people are us. I plan to guide you, lead you, and I will not step down until the fight is done."

The cheers erupted again. Saine and Logaen were among them, pounding their feet and voicing their support.

"I regret to inform you that my staff has been stolen by a traitor," here the crowd booed loudly against the treason of Bydor, "but I can assure you that it will be regained soon. I am not powerless without it, only with slightly less power. With it, we can battle my brother and his minions, but we may be beaten back if Zamorak himself shows in the battle. Once I recover my staff, I will be able to face him. The sides will be even.

"You, my generals, and my faithful soldiers, will begin the battle. And others will come, liberated from the weight of Zamorak's cruelty, they will fight to free others. We can, and we will, win this battle!"

The soldiers exploded in yells, vocalizing their devotion. Another general stepped up, this being the top general of the resistance. His name was General Lutherian.

Lutherian raised both hands, and finally the din calmed. "Thank you, Saradomin," he intoned, inclining his head.

"We hunger for battle, and we hunger for bloodshed. Remember who the enemy is," he began, seeing the bloodthirsty gleam in many eyes. "I hate to be cynical, but if we lose this war we are lost altogether. The penalty for rebellion is death. We must fight to the best of our ability and never back down.

“We will prepare to move in the morning. Generals Fox, Rolowyn, Dondor, Garen, and Miran, you will move toward Varrock. Myself, Falgrim, Telald, Krelthor, and Corath, will teleport to Ardounge and attack there. When those cities are secured, we will converge upon Falador. I expect you ready at first light, men. Good luck." He inclined his head again as the cheers broke out. He stepped down.

Fox stepped forward, with a small smile. "I think there is one more thing to say. I believe we should all be grateful for the two brothers, Saine and Logaen, and their efforts in bringing about the return of our savior and Lord." The yelling became louder. Logaen shifted uncomfortably, feeling eyes on him.

Finally, the crowd dispersed, and the meeting was over.
