Shutters closed, proactivity sprang to action as Gareth shouted orders. Jericho ran upstairs to warn those up above.

Hollowness filled Eve’s gut and throat, an unnerving feeling. These are not the sounds of animals...

Sword in hand, Gareth advised a defensive tactic. The other man appeared undecided.

“Monsters,” Eve answered the rudely awakened girl. Eve stood nearby and strung her bow. Although darkness outside and an interior environment inside, Eve figured she might be able to get a shot or two if the monsters attempted to enter via the windows or door.

The man in the blue cloak tore his gaze from the door to Gareth when the knight called out his orders, his experience breakign past the momentary indecision that had clouded him. He nodded, face becoming focused, as he finished the short distance to the front door - proceeding to pull nearby tables across to shove them up against it with hurried motions. He could not help those outside, but he could defend the inn.

Feli broke from her shocked reverie quite quickly, though by then Jericho had already sprinted past the girl to take her place in heading upstairs to wake the rest of the guests. She shakily looked towards her father, who was pulling a woodsman's axe from under the bar before made his way to the back room-

Things went to shit at that moment.

Before Jericho could get so far as the first guestroom at the top of the stairs a series of crashing sounds reached their ears, splintering wood and howling beasts echoed through the upstairs hallway and down the stairs to reach the rest of them. Sudden cries of terror were cut off with audible tearing sounds from within some of the rooms, those occupied by the merchants from earlier.

At roughly the same moment the room Barda and his 'friend' were in received a similar unwelcome visitor - the window and shutters bursting open, splintering and breaking as something large crashed inside just a couple of short metres away from the bed. It was a bizarre creature, its head similar to an oversized toad with thick, muscular hind legs that ended in webbed feet. Its back was hunched, two shorter limbs dangling low and ending in long, thick claws. Its green-grey flesh was covered in bulbous growths that looked solid, rock-like even, and even hunched it stood at least 6' tall and wider than the window it'd come through. Its bulging black eyes twitched towards the room's occupants, its slimy mouth opening to reveal teeth like knives, and it sprung at them with a guttural gurgle, intent to feast.

No sooner had the barkeep stepped through the door into the back room did another crash ring out, this one from where the barkeep had gone. Not even two seconds passed before the door burst open and the barkeep tumbled through, being tackled by some kind of dark furred monster and falling out of immediate view behind the bar counter. Feli screamed at the sight, " Daddy! " even as shouts and snarls mixed together, the top of a dark furred body visible along with the swinging head of a woodsman's axe. A sharp yelp of pain followed the axe coming down, again mixing with pained shouts from the large, burly man being savaged.

From the back room two more dark furred beasts emerged, standing on all fours they were reminiscent of wolves - yet larger, more muscular. Their dark, mud-coloured fur was coarse and filthy, lengthy claws and stained teeth glinting dangerously in the light of the room's lanterns - and two eye that were black as night. These were recognizable to most who had faced monsters in these parts before, a common monster that had been named Hellhounds - fast, strong and cunning enough to work as a pack. They may have been similar to wolves, but no sane person would dare recognize these as anything but the monsters they were.

Almost at the same time as their emergence the door the blue cloaked man was barricading was thudded against violently, shaking the few pieces of furniture he had managed to shove into place enough to loosen their positioning. Another crash came at the shuttered window Gareth had latched, violently shaking it and chipping off splinters, but it barely held. The sound of clawing at it soon followed. The other two windows, however, burst open as two more Hellhounds burst through - one for each - too quickly for them to be latched and barricaded. These four hounds chose targets as soona s they were inside, the two from the back ignoring the barkeep wrestling with the fifth to rush towards the nearest people - Feli and Annie.

Feli made to scramble back, trying to throw chairs into the monster's path as a terrified shriek escaped her. It was fast and it was strong, the furniture that did get into its path being practically shouldered aside with ease. It'd be upon her soon.

The one that came at Annie was just as fast, and would likely produce flashbacks for the young girl - reminders of her home village being attacked those few short days ago, still fresh in her mind. In fact, Hellhounds had been among the beasts that had destroyed her home and slaughtered all she'd once known. Hellhounds eerily similar in fur shade to these...

The two that had come through windows came at Eve, who was the nearest to them from that side. One other shuttered window went undisturbed.

((The Hellhounds are a common monster, but still extremely deadly. More dangerous than bandits by far. While you may autohit and control the hounds that you fight, you cannot autokill them just yet.

Rainbow, unfortunately you wouldn't have five minutes to put on your plate armour. You'll have had time to hear Jericho's shout of warning, and likely jump up and grab your sword, but the toad-like monster will have burst through the window right at that point. You can similarly autohit it and control it in your fight, but not quite autokill it yet. It's deceptively quick due to its powerful hind legs rocketing it around, and has a barbed tongue that it can launch several feet.))

"Sir" Barda

"Blake, Get behind me.!" Barda yelled, He clambored over the bed and retrieved his claymore, with Blake close behind him. Sadly, Barda could not get his armor on, and he was almost completely naked-- literally-- he only had his underwear on and a tunic. Also, his blade was unpoisoned. A situation he was not prepared for. He didn't even know if the toad monster could be poisoned. After all, there are frogs who secrete natural deadly toxins themselves, the poison dart frog being one of them.

The Giant toad jumped on the bed, wrecking the bit of furniture, and it was avoiding Barda's swings, The hungry monstrosity saw Blake as the easier prey. It stuck out it's tongue at Blake, attempting to grab Blake, as if he were one of the flies his smaller frog cousins ate. It mattered little, Barda swung his claymore at the creature's tongue, slicing it about a quarter of the way.

That was when the toad's tactics changed, it realized that Barda was the bigger threat, and that in order to get to Blake, it would have to kill, or incapacitate Barda, it rammed Barda full speed. Barda scrambled to get the hell away from the monster's bulky frame. Blake stayed close behind Barda.

The monster crashed through the wall of Barda's room, creating a chokepoint that Barda decided to use to protect Blake with. " Blake, get through that hole and wait there." Barda ordered. Blake went through; his survival instinct told him to stay close to Barda even then.

The toad rammed Barda; It received Barda's claymore in it's gut, as a consequence. Barda then did an vertical uppercut with his blade, opening the wound even further, though Barda was unnerved at just how tough the creature's skin was.

"Come at me, you oversized frog!" Barda screamed.
Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy! =)

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT

The mantra streaming through Jericho's head did little to calm him. This situation was bad, and was getting worse. He turned to scream down the stairs, "The upper floor is compromised! I'll hold the stairs!" Some heroic instinct urged Jericho to rush into the rooms to help the patrons, but the grim reality was that they were likely already dead.

And if they weren't yet, they soon would be.

Right now he fell into a ready stance, sword hilt at his waist but point forward and up. He would hold the stairs for the warriors downstairs, trusting that they could defend from the wolves. The trust did little for the eerie sense of dread in the air, as Jericho held his ground against a foe he had yet to see.
Cower, worship, or beg. All are valid choices.

Monsters?! What was that even supposed to mean? Well, she knew what it was probably supposed to mean, but why here and now? This night had just started to look better than average, but now that seemed like such an outcome would be more of a dream than the one she was just having.

Still, it didn’t answer the important questions: what exactly was attacking them, and where would they be-

The answer to those questions revealed themselves before Rila even had a chance to finish asking the questions in her head. She wasn’t personally familiar with hellhounds, having never faced them, but their descriptors were easy enough to recognize. That was the answer she minded getting least, since the other one was answered by “everywhere”. There wasn’t any entrance that the creatures didn’t seem to be coming from, and although that was bad for anyone else, it was particularly bad for her, at least in terms of how to fight.

Still, by the grace of whatever good forces still remained in the world, nothing came at her in the initial wave. That gave her the chance to actually do something to help before the situation got out of hand, or at the very least not be entirely useless. She had three options, but only one seemed to have absolutely no method of defense, and so that was the option she took.

Raising her crossbow, Rila aimed at the hellhound attempting to approach Feli before pulling the trigger and releasing the bolt. It was an easy shot to line up: the hellhound was intent on its prey, and moving in a very predictable pattern. Her shot would be aimed at the creature’s eye, as she assumed such a hit would be as deadly to one of these as it would to the animal that it mirrored.

Still, to say that Rila was entirely composed would be a lie. Although it was lost in the chaos of the moment, her hands were shaking, and had she taken a moment to really consider the situation she probably would have just run and tried to hide. Fortunately there wasn’t time for that, at least not yet, and she managed to keep herself under control by just thinking like this was another routine hunt. All she had to do was keep calm and fire... Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

As Annie was eating her stew she heard the barmaid scream as her father was attacked by a strange monsters and taken away. She drew her sword ready to fight if needed. That's when the strange monsters attacked her and barmaid. She was scared but, brave at the same time. She was going to honor her village that she tried to save. She was quick as fast as she can to injured them. She was able to injury some of them to keep herself, barmaid and the others safe. -Dances-
