The barmaid had returned Gareth's smile, the slightest hint of red to her cheeks in doing so - but carried on serving the patrons. When she finally did pass by him again and heard him speak she paused and smiled appreciatively, the tray in her hands empty for the moment.

Thank ye', m'daddy built it wit' my grandpa about 28 winters back,
" She replied, eyes going from Gareth to the barkeep - who seemed to have noticed the pause and had his eyes on them. The barmaid gave the barkeep a little wave, to which he frowned at slightly before shaking his head - going back to what he was doing. Safe to say his attention wasn't too far, though. The barmaid turned back to Gareth, hand raising to her cheek in thought for a moment. "
Not really. We get a'lotta regulars comin' through, couple merchants an' maybe lone travelers here an' there. Prob'ly the storm brought y'all here, right?

The next 30 minutes were quite relaxed, business slowing around the tavern floor as the villagers began making their way back home in varying states of sobriety and the few merchants inside eventually making their way up to their rooms for the night. The teenage barmaid - introducing herself as Feli if Gareth asked - would spend the time doing her rounds and passing by Gareth's table to continue talking with him, if the knight was inclined to do so.
Annie would get her food after perhaps ten minutes, while across the room the young man in the blue cloak pushed his emptied bowl of stew away and sipped at his drink - seeming quite relaxed. The varying lone travelers were soon the only ones still in the room aside from the barmaid and barkeep, with Feli eventually getting down to asking Gareth about where he was from, what he did - seeming interested in their chatter. Her father remained watchful, but kept his distance.
It was a few minutes later that an odd sound meshed in with the rain and thunder. Anyone deeper into the room wouldn't hear it, only those nearer to the door or
