A brief history of our Race
By Zerak B. Mole
Ahhh… Humans, your exploits have reached even our dark corner of the earth. So far we’ve simple watched you from the safety of the shadows, but with time I can feel our encounter with each other is inevitable. So I’ve decided to give you a short introduction on the behalf of my Race.
We, are the Moles. Not like the ones that inhabit ‘Falador’ however. We are much more advanced in both Physique and the Arcane, yet we are weakened by the merciless sun, so an invasion is not something you should fear. We all have some resemblance to humans, but we still have differences.
How we look depends on our position in society and evolution, from the lowly Degenerates to the regal Dark Borns.
But, we all share our darker, more grey and tougher skin from an eternity in a subterranean environment. Each of one of us grow claws and teeth that serve as our default weapon if we are ever caught unarmed.
The Degenerates stand at the same height as the Goblins and have the similar mentality aswell. They are naught but scavengers, criminals or fools thrown out of our society.
Next comes the Commoners, not yet granted into one of the Factions or of Clan Blood, they are almost impossible to distinguish from a Human. Except for the said biological traits each mole carries. These are mostly citizens, traders or others who do not combat.
Next comes the more developed Followers. they have chosen either the Role of defending the city from the outside, the inside or serve as Seers, a sort of priesthood. They are given training in combat and magic, unlike Commoners.
They can be recognized by their more military look.
Last comes the Dark Born, these stands at about 2,5m, Part of a Clan, they are given a large amount of arcane knowledge and the blessings of theír family's ancestors! Fear these, Humans, For they wear their Clan's pride into battle.
More I cannot say for the moment being. Until next time, Humans.

The Power of Darkness
Through our exposure to darkness, we have learned to manipulate it to our use, shifting into it, mending wounds and carry us through it... The darkness IS our life! Its capabilities traces out into the very infinite! It is through this power we slowly evolve, the more you understand the shadows, the stronger your body grows and your mind gets more and more enlightened.
We cannot use this gift while light touches our bodies, however.
Apart from the shadows we prefer to use fire, lightning and pure arcane energy when practising Magic. The Art of Magic is a powerful & honoured gift, our style focuses on the manipulation of
raw force & energy, evocating power to unleash on your foes, we are also highly skilled in telekinesis.
The Arcane should not be undervalued or underestimated, we always strive to unravel it's many secrets, we suspect it's birth took place even before the Gods, if it ever WAS born that is.
And, just as you Humans have discovered the Rune Altars, we too, have found one of our own. The Void Rune Altar, it is with this Rune my people use Shadow Magic. The Dark Borns does not need the rune to control the Darkness however, they are granted the gift on their Birth.

Our Beliefs
While not strictly Atheists, we believe Mortals are not for Gods to use as pawns for their own amusement. We have our own four Deities that guide us and gives us understanding through devotion.
They are:
->Sanothos the Deathspeaker, Father of Darkness<-
Patron deity for all our Assassins and other Militia that defends the city from within. He melts into the shadows to ambush and decimate his enemies from behind their lines. He speaks to a Mole before his or her final moment arrives, he would be the Moles answer to your Grim Reaper. He is the least social of the three, rarely showing up on his own will, even more so when called upon.
->Suflax the Protector, He who only draws blade to Defend<-
Patron deity for the defenders and soldiers, He could only draw blade to defend, never to conquer, His ideals is the primary principles our army have. He was the youngest of the Three. Myths tells he had his armour welded to his skin as a penance for slaughtering innocents to his own amusement. His skill with a blade is unimaginable.
->Veiron the Wise, Speaker of the Truth<-
Patron deity for our Seers, he would only speak the truth unless he wanted his powers deprived from him. He was also a powerful sorcerer, manipulating time & space to outmaneuver his enemies. As the eldest brother, he keeps his two younger brothers in check.
->The Tunneler, Father of Three, Father of the Depths<-
Not much is known about the Greatfather, only that He created the Three to guide the Moles. Reputed to have a significant control over Life & Death, using both powers to obliterate his enemies or ensure destiny follows it's path. He is rumored to have carved out the initial cave systems while Gielinor was still young.

You've chosen an unusual way to tell your story. Instead of prose, or (god help us) scripted from, you're telling the story to us through a journal (or letter).
While this restricts you to talking about the past, it also lets you to address the reader directly. This allows translation, explanation, and personal comments without breaking the train of thought.
Depending on where you go from here, this could be a fantastic (and enlightening ;) ) tale. You can be sure I'll be checking up to see if that's the case. :D

Our Society
We live in large gatherings, or cities if you'd prefer. The Clans keeps to themselves but often visits the cities either to purchase food or other neccesities.
Moles do not have Monarchy, Instead we have three factions deciding our next move and goal, the decision is discussed and later chosen by common agreement.
The Factions are:
-The Darkprowlers, Followers of Sanothos-
These are the inside Militia of our Cities, they deal with threats from the within, anything they judge as possible danger to the people will be dealt with, they consist mainly of Assassins. When no issue is at hand they enjoy joining the Warders in their hunts. They are currently led by Baron Frankforn Kastaln
-The Warders, Followers of Suflax-
These serve as our peoples army if needed, highly disciplined & educated in warfare, they will only defend from incoming threats and will never rise to conquer. They are also hunters, bringing home meat & leather for the city.
They are currently led by Colonel V. Kossanver

-The Seers, Followers of Veiron-
These serve as our priests, medics and teachers, also healing soldiers in battle if needed, they follows Veiron's ideal and will always speak the truth. They abhor close combat, but will protect themselves if absolutely necessary.
They are currently led by Lady Elenja Zalani.

Interaction with other Races
Thus far we've lived completely undisturbed, leaving the surface to it's own business. But recent events have caused an heated discussion among the higher authorities in the city, the discovery and theft of the Stone of Jas concerns even us. More and more often we have sent spies and intelligence gathering agents to the Surface, often under protection of the Night or the many Subterranean systems.
We are wary of you humans due to your apparent capability for greed. For the time being, we will not open up the Gates. If a human somehow finds their way into our territory, their memory is tampered with and they will have no memory where they went, or what happened, further intrusion will inevitably lead to a swift assassination.
As for the Other races.. Here is our opinions shortened down:
-<Elves>-
We respect the elves not only due to their apparent independence from Magic, but also because of their respect for the Land that hosts them. But what seems serene should always be looked upon with suspicion.. Because in the core, corruption boils.
-<Dwarves>-
Our fellow Subterranean neighbours, yet they don't even know of our existence. While their technology & craftmanship is impressive, their greed is regretable.
-<Gnomes>-
Gnomes are looked upon with a smile, they could almost be our allies, their benevolence & eagerness for knowledge is heartening. But keepers of secrets as we are, it is not time to reveal ourself yet.
-<Goblins & Cave Goblins>-
While Goblins are just laughed at, Cave Goblins intrigue us. When the time comes, we will most likely seek a pact with them. Their Technology is surprisingly advanced given their surroundings.
-<Demons>-
The Demons don't scare us. Pathetic, misled dogs of a lost world, Corrupting everything they touch, any upstarts that even think of trying to influence the depths will be hunted down and slain. Not even the mighty K'ril Tsutsaroth is a match against Kiefar and his Blade.

The Clans
Apart from the factions, there are deeper, and more powerful Covenants among us, the Clans.
Unlike your clans, these are marked by bloodline, you can only be born into it. Each one of them carry their own specific crest, symbols, fighting techniques and arcane secrets. Through the blessing of the Three they grow taller, stronger and more cunning than the usual Mole.
Each Clan have it's own sacred territory & sanctuary in the depths and are very protective of it. The Sanctuaries are grand mansions or strongholds, depending on the Clan. these are often ancient, dating back to the very first age of the Clan in question.
A Clan can only be made by having one of the Three Brothers bless a Family. From that moment and ever afterwards, that Family will carry the Brother's blessing.
At the moment of writing, there are 11 Clans altogether, the eleventh one being the most renowned. It is the so called High Clan, the one that oversees all the clans & their traditions, it is also the most powerful one. Led by the mighty Lord Keifar B. Mole, Hero of Te-Kerej & Bane of the Unforgettable, He wields his heirloom blade 'Dark Pillar' with an undying enthusiasm.
The clans are in this order:
"Kafar", Master Swordsmen. Blessed by Suflax
"Val'yz", Chronomancers. Blessed by Veiron
"Tylim", Acrobats & Stealthers. Blessed by Sanothos
"Rolvex", Historians. Blessed by Veiron
"Hir'Kiv", The Huntsmen. Blessed by Sanothos
"Gharos", Sons of the Flames. Blessed by Suflax
"Zarek", The Unseen Eyes. Blessed by Sanothos
"En'uyol", The Dimensionalists. Blessed by Veiron
"Fre'kerra", Preservers of Earth. Blessed by Veiron
"Nu'jelu", Benders of Mind & Will. Blessed by Sanothos
"Blaque", Lords of the Clans. Blessed by The Tunneler
Despite what you may think, the Clans do not fight or carry rivalry between each other, a feud on that scale would bring nothing but misery and chaos to our people, but we do keep to ourselves.

*claps* more! more!
Very enjoyable! You used a very inspiring way of telling the story from your own point of view (not quite sure the exact name for it, first person yes... but more than that) like a letter like Yaya said, or a leader before a council of differing species.
I have used similar writing styles within my longer novels. ;)
Keep going with it! I want to learn more! :)
