So, that thread I was talking about, I'm starting to get the basic idea for a plot.

I mentioned this ruined and abandoned empire that rapidly ages anyone or anything that sets foot inside it.

Well, I'm going to take away the "suck the life out of its visitors" part, and just say that it is completely abandoned. No one lives in it and no plants grow, but people can still walk around and explore - they just need to bring lots of food.

Anyways, once the city-states realized that the empire was abandoned, they went inside and began exploring it. They looted the tombs and cities and found all these cool magical artifacts and secrets, but the land itself wasn't worth claiming. The only thing left defending these tombs are magical constructs and traps.

I'm thinking the thread will start out with a group of adventurers and mercenaries protecting the people excavating the tomb. They find something, and then what they do with that knowledge becomes their main concern for the remainder of the plot.

That's all I have so far. Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.
