It's unpleasant for sure. To make things worse, fascism is common in Ukraine, and I've always had the belief that the more right wing a nation, the more likely they go to war or attract war. There's too much worship of Bandera, a WW2 Nazi collaborator who organized fascists to commit massacres throughout Lwow and surrounding regions, doing things like sawing pregnant woman apart alive, nailing babies on fence posts, and other atrocities along Poland's southeast border. These acts are celebrated in Ukraine, and I had ancestors' whose lands were stolen or destroyed by Ukrainian fascists. My grandparents were nearly killed during these massacres, though a Ukrainian awoke him after midnight, warning him to flee with his wife, and they did on horseback, though the Ukrainian who saved them got slaughtered. I don't know why, but this world rewards evil too often. To make things even worser, fascism is on the rise again, even in Canada. Everything's a disappointment.
On the bright side, many Ukrainians are fleeing to Poland.
Coincidentally, Noam Chomsky also came from this brutal region.
