This was what I wrote:
"He had only taken a single step when, just off to his right, a small green portal appeared in the air. But that couldn't be right - portal magic was supposed to be a myth. The King had not even noticed it, and neither had most of the room. Of those who had noticed it, they were so stunned they could not deliver a warning in time.
A small, thin object flew out from the portal, and embedded itself in side of the King's throat. The dagger buried itself to the hilt with the tip poking out the other side. The King's eyes widened. Blood began to pour from his mouth, and a gasping, gurgling sound could be heard. Prince Leon was already sprinting across the room to reach him.
Then the King fell, rolling down the steps of his throne and sprawling out onto his back. One hand reached for the hilt of the dagger in his neck, the other clawed aimlessly at the air above him. Prince Leon reached him too late. The King went limp."
