Eternal night is metaphorical, West. The sun exists, but it's been perverted by whatever Malta and her Clan did with the Sunstaff. Vampyro's world building was executed kind of poorly, so I don't blame you for missing the information. Part III is literally called "Under the Perverted Sun. Mortals are most active at night, Hence "Eternal night"
The only time during the day any mortal can be outside is during a rainstorm. Elves, who usually live outside with their clans build special kinds of tents for keeping sunlight out of them. In fact, just about every trope about vampires has been reversed in vampyro, or altered slightly. Vampires can walk in sunlight openly, mortals cant. Vampire pureblooded can enter holy places. They couldn't do that before whatever Balta did. There has even been theoretical research among vampires into getting around their vulnerability to silver. It is all theoretical though Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!
