The only problem I see in giving a 13 year old a katana is that it'll be too big for him to wield. Also, there is a difference between the size of early teens, men and women, so there's a possibility he will grow out of the blade. Age really is irrelevant here, since the boy should be reaching the age where he should be strengthening his body to use a sword.

Too big for him to wield effectively. He could probably pick the thing up, and swing it, but kids can't wield swords well. Also he is malnourished. Vyras will need to take frequent breaks along the way to give the ex-prisoners food to replenish energy. Age is definitely not a factor in the sense of being able to wield a sword. It's cultural. No Sudovian in the lowlands would allow a child of any age to wield a sword unless it is a practice sword, whereas Kids in the highlands might be more proficient with an actual katana.

First off, without proper nutrition, kids growth in terms of height stunts. As I said, it can be reversed, but you need need to be fairly tall to use a sword of any type. There's a reason why every military from Roman times until today has a minimum height requirement. It's to be able to wield weapons effectively.

There's a good chance Subaki would fall backward if he tried a vertical slice. A horizontal slice could cause him to fall over. The only thing he could probably use a katana for is to stab with it. Even then, his wrists wouldn't be strong enough to hold the blade in that position for long. The blade would slowly sink to the ground.

I could see Subaki using a dagger, or a light hatchet. That's about it.

Good Job, Annie, but why stop there? What would Annie's reaction be to Vyras and the kid being knocked down by wolves?

Also what was her opinion on the heated argument over Vyras' 'incompetence' (I'd call it "senility') she could have joined in on the conversation.

I am glad you’re having a great time in Omega, Annie! It means I’m doing my job right!
Unfortunately, work bogged me down, I’m just too tired to work on the next post so soon, plus I still have two novels I gotta critique. To make things worse, my company pulled a big turn and now there’s like a page of online courses everyone’s gotta do and some take up to two hours to complete--and only if I pass the test on my first try >.< everyone gets three weeks to do the course so I gotta get started on those ASAP tomorrow or so, maybe I’ll start on my cellphone while at work, I dunno. I am hoping I can get a bio done in George’s RP tonight at least.

As someone with only a little experience in security, I found that people who didn't turn up to work drunk and/or wasn't suspected of swiping company property made a good candidate for promotion.

Boy, did that job have low standards.
and here I was starting to think I was actually good at my job XD Though, the company used to have company-issued cellphones in every truck, though they all went missing XD to make things worse, the gas cards--credit cards the company pays for to gas up their trucks--were being used on other vehicles XD I never took the company’s money or property, so maybe they noticed and decided I was a fit for something better? But we’ll see!

(Also, I don't know why Sakura decided to give a 13 year old, very immature child a sharp and deadly katana. Like he could easily cut himself. Especially because he is smaller than a human outside the castle, and physically meek. His immune system wouldn't be that good either. All this is reversible with a good diet. But I doubt that Subaki could swing that katana very well.
historically, children of samurai families would practise their cuts on condemned criminals, using them as live targets though most were already dead most of the time. Since the boy is described as coming from a bushi family, he would be raised to know swords, bows, horsemanship and spear-fighting. A katana weighs about two pounds, a child Subaki’s age could wield it even effectively, it doesn’t take much skill, talent or strength to wield a blade. The katana is one of the easiest swords to swing, hence why even beginners with katanas can make good cuts even when they swing a katana like a baseball bat!

As for malnourishment and lack of vitamins, I don’t know how realistic your RP is, as there was little information explaining what was considered and what wasn’t during RPing with our characters. I expected a typical fantasy setting--hellish world but strong people anyways, especially for user-characters and villains and major NPCs.

Oh my, Rainbow, you have made many misconceptions in regards to children and swords! I think you are seriously underestimating children. Even today in Africa, there are malnourished child soldiers who behead adult prisoners. It doesn’t make much effort to slice human flesh--human skin can be cut open by mere paper XD There are numerous YouTube videos showing children cutting with katanas (and European longswords) quite well. But you are right in that a malnourished child wouldn’t wield a blade effectively, especially against adults.

As for height, height isn’t needed to use a sword well. Brittany Reeves, one of the founders of Mordhau Historical Combat, is only like five foot five, weighs one hundred and five pounds, and she beat men well over a foot taller and well over a hundred pounds heavier than she is in longsword contests. Of course, height and strength grants many advantages.

I have next to no knowledge in Japanese history to begin with, other than in anime, and especially in Samurai culture. So my question is what age did Bushi children begin executing the condemned and training with bows and stuff. I think I bit off more than I can chew when I made Subaki the child of a Samurai.
