Demi-- Vykdyti is not a Gern-- Becoming a pureblood does not mean that one is a member of the royal family, and being an actual Gern, does not mean one is in line for the throne. becoming king or queen of Clan Gern means that you are the most capable. Lexius is, well Lexius-- a drunken baffoon, and lecherous pig-- So Vykdyti, a capable assassin and spymaster, became second in line. Plus she is the mother figure for all Clan Gern Vampires, and has the respect of all vampires in the clan. She's a perfect choice for successor in that regard

It is all about how capable one is. Hence how a Mirta came to outmaneuver her dolt of a husband and become Queen.
