I forgot to post in Omega last night. Got carried away playing For Honor.

In other news, I came upon this odd article,
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/05/arts/the-battle-for-medieval-studies-white-supremacy.html?fbclid=IwAR0lX0IeRL4-ug6YqymbxD3bJL9CYNYkzs3zZtcY8F5E5lIsFvZmFWgM9Q8

The article seems to claim something of, 'Trump was elected, therefore white supremacists in medieval scholarship.' Not sure why anyone would think us medieval scholars are keeping out women or nonwhites; I'd love to talk about the middle ages with women and non-Europeans! I've been doing HEMA for over a decade, studied it since I was a little kid, and I've never come across a single case of racism or Naziism, nor have I seen any of my friends or associates, or any other scholar or participant, ever partake is racism or Naziism. Ever. At all.

There are lots of YouTubers who go into medieval topics, such as scholagladiatoria, Skallagrim, Shadiversity, Lindybeige, ThegnThrand, etc. I'm pretty sure none of them are racists or neo-Nazis. If there's any racists or neo-Nazis in medieval scholarship, they are an extreme minority.

Actually, I just remembered something. Richard Marsden (I think it was him) put out a post on Facebook complaining something about Nazi-like topics a few years ago. I've never seen any of it, tho I'm pretty sure it was there, most certainly mostly trolling. Just because a few psychopaths reference history as excuses for their degeneracy doesn't mean they're right. If you want to combat this tide, start by NOT freaking out about everything.

I dislike how the article alludes that us medieval enthusiasts are staying out of the fray, as if to mean we are afraid. I'm not afraid of critisizing Naziism, or racism, two topics I'd be much heavier in than my criticisms of Islam or Muslim extremists.

Unless, of course, I am wrong about something, and if so, feel welcome to point it out.

Actually, Shadiversity once praised the depravity that are Goblin Slayer's goblins (and pointed out some helpful reading suggestions for people who are interested in more vile fictional races from other popular fiction). So he is clearly a woman hating nazi jew.

Don't try to understand how these people think, Azi. They'll drive you mad.

On the topic of weapons, I wonder how one would use a weapon like this...

It happens to be one of my favourite weapons in Runescape, but I've always wondered how one would actually fight with such a weapon without cutting themselves...

I wonder where the concept of fantasy swords having side-mounted hilts came from, because I've certainly never heard of such a weapon being used irl...

Actually, that's a good point, West. Sometimes, it's best to just leave things be. Lately, I've been thinking of going into YouTube with the sole purpose of criticising right-wing dog whistling, which seems to be quite popular. Sargon of Akkad, Count Dankula, Lauren Southern, Sh0eonhead, Paul Joseph Watson, Armored Skeptic, Stephan Molyneux, Milo Yiannopoulos, etc. (may have gotten the names wrong), seem to be repeating recreated neo-Nazi propaganda yet are quite popular for it. The Great Replacement is neo-Nazi propaganda, created by Holocaust deniers. (the historic version was the Kalergi Plan).

Another example, Dave Rubin and Sh0eonhead make fun of people for blocking others, yet they themselves are hardcore blockers. Dave Rubin has literally blocked tens of thousands of ppl yet few seem to care.

Another example, Paul Joseph Watson and his big daddy boy Alex Jones spent the past two decades preaching how evil the government is, but when they get banned from Facebook, they want the government to step in and get them unbanned. (Note that when I got banned in RuneScape, I never complained, and have not even requested an appeal)

Another example, Jordan Peterson a couple years ago lied about Bill C16 and doesn't seem to care about the hate it caused to the transgender community.

Humorously enough, Sargon of Akkad’s comments has resulted in UKIP losing eighty percent of their seats, as the according members resigned. He also lied about a politician (I don’t remember her name [she was the one who Sargon gave the ‘non-rape joke’ to, even though she is an actual survivor of sexual assault]) about she making fun of men’s suicide rates, when in fact she chuckled slightly about being surrounded by male politicians when one of them claimed men couldn’t address their problems (or something like that).

Pewdiepie’s memes have been used by two mass shooters thus far. I don’t blame him, but considering his massive following, it’d be wise to at least try to have some responsibility over his followers. Even if he fails, it still looks better in court if it gets that far.

And then I realized I was rather right-wing myself. For example, like Ulysses S. Grant, I would deal with the KKK/white supremacists/neo-Nazis/skinheads/whatever by declaring a state of emergency, then sending the US army out to break apart these subfactions, then bringing their ringleaders to court and hanging them. When Ulysses S Grant did that, all of a sudden, the KKK didn’t really exist anymore. However, death penalty may be too harsh for the modern world, but seeing as neo-Nazis get into big groups and murder African Americans, it’s hard to let them off the hook. A militia may be necessary to oppress them, but then again, the Founding Fathers did mock the idea of reliance on militias. I’m running out of ideas, seems like the only thing left is to arm citizens for self-defence, but that could amplify to gun violence. Nevertheless, it’d be hypocritical of me to criticize right wingers as I myself am pretty right wing, so it’s probably best to leave it be.

Anyways, back to more proper topics...yeah, that bladed knuckle-duster seems like quite the weapon. Is it one-handed or two-handed, though? If it’s one-handed, it could be used as a parrying device or even a rudimentary shield, with the benefit of choppy. Actually, even if two-handed, it could still be used to parry or block. It would be a close-quarter weapon, like you could swing it in a figure eight pattern in a compact crowd of foes and spread them apart. But ya, it’d be quite risky to use!

I also don’t know where side-mounted hilts came from, but they sure look different. Sometimes, fantasy has to supercede reality, why not?

For size reference

In-game, it appears to be a sort of two handed halberd-meets-greatsword-meets-scythe weapon used by Bandos's followers in gladitorial fights for leadership. The problem is, due to the limits of the weapons reach, wouldn't you need to be in someone's face to take a swing at them?
