I tend to take MAL scores with a grain of salt, but from what I’ve been able to discover the scores actually have a hidden meaning which goes along the lines of...
10 – OMG OMG OMG THIS BEST ANIME EVER GAIS. AGREE OR YOU HAVE SHIT TASTE.
9 – This anime changed my life. I will never see anime the same way again.
8 – A good anime, kinda forgettable but I liked it!
7 – A decent anime, but I just spent the whole time picking out flaws because someone rated 10.
6 – Not my cup of tea, but I don’t want to be a jerk and score any lower.
5 – I have difficulty imagining anyone who could enjoy this anime, but they might exist?
4 or less – Anime is trash and so am I.
Does this mean anything? Not really. One of my favourite shounen series is Black Clover, which is rated around 6.8. The amount of testosterone in this series is off the charts, and I love it. I suspect if it came out in 2000's like the other red blooded shounen series, people probably would have recieved it better.
There aren't many anime rated above a 9 in MAL - and from what I can tell, the only "classic" on that list is Legend of Galactic Heroes (from 1988-1997 no less).

Well, MAL has the second season of Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere at 7.68, so I judge every rating they have as false and refuse to acknowledge their existence.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
I remember watching that thinking... 'I have no clue what's going on, but the girls are cute so that doesn't matter!' So that score seems about accurate to me.
Too many people have that opinion...it's not THAT hard to follow if you're paying attention.
I'm just sad the anime doesn't seem to be continuing. It was a really good watch, and definitely in my top 5 or 10.

Well, if Full Metal Panic got an ending after a 13 year haitus, I suppose you still have hope.
(IT TOOK 4 SEASONS SPANNING 16 YEARS FOR THIS COUPLE TO FINALLY FEEL COMFORTABLE HOLDING HANDS. TALK ABOUT A SLOW MOVING RELATIONSHIP).
I feel shows like Log Horizon did a lot better when it came to politics and worldbuilding, mainly because it was presented in a way that kind of made sense. I kind of assumed you needed to read Horizon in the middle of nowhere's source material to get the full picture.

I'm a fan of Invisible Victory myself.
I’ve always loved the concept of everything going well and normal… until it isn’t, and suddenly named cast are dropping like flies and the protagonists are locked into last stands against hopeless odds. It’s probably the reason why I like Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans so much – it took only one bad decision in the second season for everything they had built and fought for to come crashing down around them.
Also Nami best girl. You can't convince me otherwise.

This statement holds truth.
And Invisible Victory was great, but I just loved the character dynamics that happen when they're in a high-school environment. Also, it's a comedy, which probably factors into it.

Souske always acted like he was auditioning for a part in Full Metal Jacket, but ended up in a high school romcom instead. I found it amusing that Invisible Victory sought to prove that he was properly paranoid all along.
I guess I don't remember many of Souske's classmates. Truth be told, I think I watched FMP for the Armslaves (I'm a big mecha fan, if you couldn't tell).
