You're a ways away from Beral. It's more just between Halai and Tias, maybe a third of the way up the border from where it intersects with Beral.

I mean, if he turns right, he can turn to the right again and it'll be the same distance as if he turned to the left to face the other door.

That's kind of what I was hoping for when I had him go around kicking them. I assumed he would also notice anything strange about the bodies as he looked at them for a response. Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.

Kicking a body isn't anywhere near the same as inspecting them (at least from my point of view; I won't ever assume that kicking a body over is the same as inspecting them unless it's stated). Yes, if there was something strange he might notice it, but there's nothing strange about standard weapon injuries. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
