Are priests and priestess's really expected to be chaste? I mean, I can't imagine this would go down well in Greenhaven – if mages are known to be bred through lineage, the church is pretty much culling off genetic potential.

Was going to go over this is in the history section, but this is actually why the Academy was formed in the first place.

The Faith was actually very anti-magic. They allowed Tranquil Magic, Generic Magic, and even a bit of Enchantment, but they did not believe magic should be used to kill. Before Old Sorus was united, they basically had a monopoly on magic, save for a handful of human kingdoms who allowed magic to be handled by institutions other than the Faith.

They deliberately swore their members into oaths of chastity in order to reduce the amount of mages in the world. Of course, those members could refuse to fully join and simply take their basic training and leave, allowing them to have a family and pass on the magical trait anyways.

The guy who first united Sorus was pro-magic (probably because he had an artifact which granted him god-tier magical power.) So what he did was allow some mages to create their own institution separate from the Priesthood, which was less restrictive and also allowed mages to settle down and produce children. That was the first Academy, and at its peak the Empire had three. In order to appease the Priesthood, he also passed laws which forbade mages from marrying into the nobility, or holding titles and land.

After the Cataclysm, the Great Temple of Talendria was the only Great Temple left standing, and they reverted back to the old views on magic. Eventually one of their leaders teamed up with New Sorus and declared war on Greenhaven, hoping to abolish the Academy.

The Archmage promised to defend Greenhaven on the condition that the King of Greenhaven would lift the restrictions preventing mages from becoming nobles, and that mages who proved their worth would be rewarded. He accepted, and the mages' magic allowed them to hold the city until help from Gara arrived.

As promised, the laws were lifted, and a few mages were granted the lands and titles of deceased nobles. The other noble houses almost immediately married into these families (the King himself married the Archmage's niece), hoping that their own children would possess magic, and as generations passed the nobility of Greenhaven eventually become dominated by mages (as a consequence they also can't marry into the other Kingdoms.)

First half of the history section is done. It's on the fourth page.

Also, I uh... I added another thing to the middle of the third page, just below the religion section. Check that out to.

Sharing is caring.

Still, I suppose that's what true friends are. :P You can discuss anything, and nobody will get offended. You take this to the logical extreme, and you do end up with some really weird conversations that would sound REALLY bad out of context.

I mean, we've all had one of those moments. Right?

Right?

... please let me be right.
Indeed, but when guys are drunk, well, the topics are extremely awkward, but funny. Lots of dirty sex jokes, basically.

I will check out new content soon, Fish, might be rather busy until nighttime tho.

I can't start writing my bio until later, but I can continue to ask potentially irrelivant questions.

Is Medic Alicia a mage, and if so, does she have a history with the faith? Does her presence weaken the need for a white mage, or would she be looking for assistants?

Edit: Too bad there isn't a Tranquility orb. The power to control life seems more useful than setting cities on fire. Or a void orb, since void is always the most broken element.

If you ask her, she will tell you that she was born in Talendria, and sent to the Great Temple like all the other magical children within that Kingdom. When she came of age and proved that she could safely wield magic, she chose to leave rather than stay. She taught herself healing magic on her own through study and practice, and eventually enlisted in the Company.

Or at least, that's what she will tell you.

And no, her presence doesn't weaken the need. She's a good healer, but she's far from a master. Besides, as it currently stands it's a lucky thing for a mercenary company to actually get their hands on one skilled healer. They'll welcome a second one with open arms.

Because she has more seniority, ou'll technically be her assistant (your title among the company being Assistant Medic), but you can still be more skilled than her. She's been with the Arenar Company for about five years, so unfortunately I'm going to have to say your particular character can't have been in the company for longer than that.
