I figure the easiest way to create a character is to pick a role and flesh out the character from there. Alternatively, you could also fit a role around a personality you really like.

Azi’s characters:
~ A “scary black man”/“token black” bounty hunter who lives off the land.
~ The faceless blood knight who thinks kukris are kool. Basically a heroic wannabe.
~ The tough as nails “hunter girl” with improbable aiming skills. Probably an emotionless girl. Interestingly enough, she uses “hollywood evil” weapons (weapons of Russian or Israeli make).


It's definately hard to create a character that fits into that cast. :P

I reckon the first place to start is to figure out your characters skillset.

~ Foot Soldier
Short-mid ranged combattants.

~ Sniper
Long ranged marksmen. Usually work in pairs.

~ Sapper
The people who handle demolitions, explosives and on-site building.

~ Field Medic (usually non-combattant)
The guy who patches everyone up.

~ Mechanic/Engineer (usually non-combattant)
The people who keep the airship floating and the engines running.

~ Crew (non-combattant)
This accounts for bridge staff, logistics, accountants and other nessicary support stuff.

~ Other (non-combattant)
This can include random civillian roles like a scientist, chef, cleaner or employer.


Other people might have different ideas.

West's advice is good enough to get started. All you need to do is pick something, and give it character. For example, take a look at this, and notice the uniqueness of the characters form MKX:

To be fair, it's a logical step to take - an infantry cannon strong enough to take down an airship would be in demand, similar to anti-tank rifles back in the advent of Tanks. The difference being, we have access to a portable power supply capable of powering cities.

Pretty much all essential ship crew is taken care of. Two of the names mentioned in the intro are the pilot and the engineer/mechanic, and you don't need too much outside of that for a this ship. Normally cruisers have a larger crew, but since this ship has been retrofitted so that a smaller amount of people can effectively control it, and since it really shouldn't be entering combat, you don't need a full staff.

Also, in terms of party dynamics, the NPC girl I've got there is a sword and shield combatant that falls more into a guardian role than anything else should you be trying to make a different character.

That seems a bit harsh, consigning a pilot and engineer to effectively live on the bridge and engineering respectively for the duration of the trip. That being said, if they were REALLY committed like Joker from Mass Effect...
