Can babies be grown in tubes now? I thought that wasn't possible yet? Or am I totally living under a rock? Well, you still need a sperm cell and an embryo to have life, unless there's something more I don't know about.

It’s a derogatory term for pregnancy methods like IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation). To put it simply, the egg is fertilised outside of the body and inserted back in.

I don't think current public domain technology can actually grow a baby in a test tube.

OOOHHHH, so that's what you meant, West, I see, makes sense. It's crazy with what modern science and technology can do, but kinda creepy. I am just rather sensitive to surgery-based topics, which is also why I can't understand transsexual operations. Like, who would willingly be put to sleep, cut open everywhere, and have one's flesh and skin adjusted? Too much for me.

But yes, I also don't think embryologists are capable of growing babies in tubes, yet. It would be quite the discovery and advancement, to be able to grow human fetuses. In theory, they would also be able to adjust DNA, removing genes that cause cancer or defects, and only having good or beneficial genes, or adding better genes. But, whether this is only science fiction or reality, time can only tell.

I've heard there's been some interesting research in terms of creating artificial eggs. Genetic engineering also has some interesting outcomes if it should become more feasible. Genetic diseases and predispositions toward certain diseases could be bred out of the species.

If all of that takes off, along with VR, robotics and artificial intelligence, within 15-20 years it may actually being to feel like we're living in the future.

I'm not big on the whole flying cars deal though. People suck at driving, and there's already a lot of assholes on the road. Why add another axis of movement to that?

Hm, interesting points, Gun. Genetic engineering does seem like a feasible method in the near future. I'm not a big fan of VR or any advanced tech, though. Someday, I'd just like to be a farmer-hunter, and live an autonomous, simple, traditional life.

Ha! Another good point, about flying cars. Indeed, I can only imagine what spectacular events we'd see if bad or rude drivers were given flying cars! Ha, I never event thought of that. As West points out, if most cars use Google maps, well, automatic driving would help.

The main reason I'm so interested in VR and various other computing technologies that are growing, is that I someday hope for entire planets and what-not to be simulated. Imagine having a full scale simulation of Earth or another planet, real or fictional, and you can create your own stories and see how they play out. Simulate natural disasters, wars, events on a global scale, etc. And you choose how realistic everything is. I think we're a long way from it but we may see such technologies emerge in 15 years or so.

Indeed, that would be quite the RPG, wouldn't it, Gun? It'll probably take a long time, but something like that will happen, eventually.

And whoa, what, Inferi had already posted the next turn for APTtS? I only noticed now. I will post for Ridley and Ben tomorrow.

I wish for the day where a VRMMO deathgame can have 2-3 years worth of 24-7 content, will fry your brain if you log out and only needs to sell 10,000 copies at launch to reach "acceptable production losses" for the shareholders.

It would be one hell of an RPG. Even on a smaller scale, like a single city or something, where there's a GM who has control over everything and other people can hop in, it would still be epic. You could play out any kind of scenario or narrative you'd like. Zombies, riots, invasion, natural disasters, cops vs robbers, pretty much anything. I do know that this exists in things like Gmod and various other games, but the fact that you have to mod a lot of stuff and nothing acts quite right puts me off of it. It doesn't allow enough customization, in my opinion.

I must admit I'm a fair bit disappointed with the way gaming is going here recently. New concepts seem to have stagnated a bit, and while many games have an open world now, those open worlds tend to be the same copy-pasted stuff over and over again. Plus, lootboxes and pay to win crap.

Not to dig up a potentially sensitive topic too much, but...

*looks down at scars from elective surgery done a little over a year ago*

*looks back up*

*slowly raises hand*

Without going into too much detail (if you care to ask me questions about it feel free, just maybe offsite), I have pretty bad scoliosis, and naturally grew quite large in the chest area. Needless to say, the added strain that placed on my shoulders was making my spine more painful, so I had surgery to remove a significant amount of tissue to take some weight off. Also so I could wear something that fits me better than a guy's medium shirt, I looked like I was wearing a potato sack but anything smaller got stretched at the top.
I just play FFXIV at this point. DC: Crystal
