Hmm, I can't imagine liking any character who would knowingly move away from adversity for the sakes of saving their own hides. That being said, I guess I haven't given great thought into the mindsets of refugees, despite working beside one for the past year.
So let me get this straight:
A horde of undead is going around destroying cities, and killing any army or individuals that try to oppose it, no matter how skilled or talented, and it then adds them all to its ranks.
You're going to think less of the small band of completely ordinary individuals who simply want to get away from it?
Yes because there's nothing exciting about them.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

There's nothing exciting in fighting people on the road, scrounging for any means to support yourself, and trying desperately to remain ahead of the horde that threatens to devour an entire country?
Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.

With a bunch of ordinary people? Honestly, no.
Even otherwise, not really. I'm not a huge fan of most survival-esque stuff.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Uh, not quite what I'd like. I need adventure, action, and violence.
All that is still going to happen. You'll just be encountering other danger on your way to avoid the main threat.
Oh, OK, nvm then.
Oh, and I forgot to add to the discussion. I tend to also not be a fan of "ordinary people" themes, but I am OK with people doing that if they wish. This is why in Wake Up, I wanted all users to be something special, something powerful, something that can change the world, but never actually forcing that on anyone. I can, however, as the RP progresses and the characters age, gradually make even less-powerful characters heroes, one way or another.
