An Energy Sword is a superior weapon for a single reason: You don't need to have anything special about you to use it. Lightsabers can't be used without the ability to use the Force. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Uh... yes they can. Han used one to slice open the Tauntaun in episode 5, and in episode 7 Finn used a lightsaber to kill some Stormtroopers.

The first I can accept because he didn't use it as a weapon. Finn using it was bullshit, however, unless they intended for him to be a jedi later on. Lore-wise - unless I read or am remembering this wrong - you cannot use a lightsaber as a weapon unless you can control the force due to the way that the blade acts.

Then how do you explain General Grevious?

By admitting that the movies do not follow the lore properly and that such a thing makes me angry sometimes.

I also think there was some bullshit about his cyborg stuff letting him do something with that, but to be honest I don't really know for certain.

Untrue. The original three, perhaps, but since a bunch of other stuff came after them, before the prequels and the sequel, the rest can't really be called that. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
