Some days ago, I came upon a really cool band, Batushka (''father'' in Cyrillic'', pronounced ''bat-ee-oosh-ka'' quickly). At first I thought they were Russian, considering the script the band uses, but to my surprise, the band's from Poland. Their music is very, very Slavic, I can feel my Slavonic routes emanating from the band's music. I love para-religious quasi-blasphemous black metal.
The band's attire seems to be based on the Schema Monks, a pagan-origin sect of Orthodox Christianity that had a strong spiritual emphasis on death. Even today, Orthodox Christian churches have a rather heavy-hearted, solemn, depressive feel when you're inside them, alluding to the powerful themes of rebirth Christianity possesses.
Poland has a lot of excellent underground metal acts, such as Outre, Mgla, and Vesania, just to name a few.
