Autohitting is mostly important against other Players' characters. Against non-player characters, its usually less strict.
Generally, the Thread Owner sends hordes of random scrubs or easy to kill monsters against the Roleplayers. The Roleplayers, being the "heroes" (or villains sometimes) are usually very strong compare to their enemies. So Player-controlled characters can usually kill non-Player controlled characters very easily.
Thread master: "Suddenly, a bunch of roaches appear!"
CaptLasky: "Joric Ironfist is a huge armored badass so he crushes these bugs easily."
Sometimes the Thread master sends more challenging foes. He/she should say that they are harder opponents and cannot be autohitted, much like a player character.
Thread master: "Suddenly, a highly skilled mercenary appears!"
CaptLasky: "Joric Ironfist is a huge armored badass but this guy looks pretty tough. Joric swings his axe at the mercenary's arm."
Thread master: "The mercenary jumps out of the way and tries to kick Joric in the chest."
CaptLasky: "Joric is wearing armor so the kick doesn't hurt much, and he manages to not get knocked back. Joric swings his axe at the mercenary's head this time."
Thread master: "The mercenary is too slow and his head gets cut off."
Ramsay Bolton is the king we deserve.
