Annie, if you're having some trouble picturing/imagining posts' content, you may consider taking notes in a .txt document, for example. I do this for my own RPs and they help a tonne.
Yes wakkace, your post is good!
Anyways, I have hangover, drank too much vodka last night, and felt horrible. Oddly enough, I was even vomiting foam that smelled like smoke, making me suspect that the ashes, smoke and fumes inhaled during my forging/blacksmithing had a bad chemical reaction with hard liquor.
Today, I used a hacksaw to cut off a bolt's head, to use it as a rudimentary rivet. I peened it so that the visor of my bascinet was attached to the helm. I also experimented with simple roofing nails: cut off about half the nail, and use the flat side and what's left over of the nail as a simple rivet. Extremely cheap, and gets the job done as good as a modern rivet, without a bulb-of-a-head modern rivets have.
I also used a threaded rod, just three bucks for two feet from Canadian Tire, cutting it into tiny lengths to use them as rivets. I speculate that weldable rods, cheaper than threaded rods, would also be extremely cheap and useful alternatives to modern rivets.
Tomorrow, I will be finishing my gauntlets, but they came from an existing pair I dissembled long ago. I also took apart my great helm, and plan on adding additional bands to make it way bigger.
