Alien environments are generally more interesting that atypical ones, but you do not want to overdo it either! Perhaps differing continents could have their own strange form.
Originality! Something very difficult to achieve; the best you can do is be different, and then add varying characters and styles into the idea. The execution of the idea is important to. Yeah, execution, of the idea! Execution of the idea.
One of my old projects deals with cambion-werewolves, essentially, a cambion is a demon-human hybrid, but in The Cannibal King universe of mine, some of them became cursed with lycanthropy, so are werewolves with horns and red eyes trapped in their monster form; they live in a post-Napoleonic Europe succumbing to widespread chaos mixed with undead and cannibals.
A much older project, Golgotha, deals with cambions of extremely mixed shape, living during Ancient Rome where mythological monsters also exist during the first century AD upon the arrival of Christianity. Sometimes, mixing historic fiction, alternate history, and fantasy elements together helps create a more believable world. As an example, there could be a Crusader states world with dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts, such as the jaekelopterus!
So, will there be gangsta knights in the dino world?
