You could have professions to keep everyone happy. For example, a sniper who can't hit the side of a barn, a magus afraid of magic, a tank who can't take a hit, a spy without a support network. The possibilities are endless.

I prefer the godlike being that does nothing but explain to everyone what they're doing wrong and how he would do it right.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
There's not really any idealism there, since every solution presented requires a godlike amount of energy that nobody but a godlike being would be able to conjure. Also, they're mostly irresponsible ideas like summoning a horde of demons to destroy a small pack of goblins.
