Athos nodded, accepting the response a bit bitterly, as it didn't help him at all. Nic seemed to notice and felt the obligation to give better help.
"Try going to the castle and asking the guards. They have nightwatchmen, so if any of them saw anything, they'd be sure to let you know," he suggested. "They're good people, the Varrock guards. Well, most of 'em. And if you can get on Queen Ellamaria's good side, she'd be sure to help. Not very many people know this 'bout her, but she's really not from noble blood. She acts snobby sometimes, but it's all just an act. She really is a good person!"
Nic smiled, hoping to see a reflection of it on Athos' emotionless face. However, it didn't come.
"That's all I have," Nic apologized, still smiling slightly at his lips' corners. "Hope it helped somewhat."
Athos sighed, but responded, "Yeah, it definitely helped me. Thanks, Nic, you take care."
Nic's smile returned, full-force, but Athos began walking away, hands in his pockets. Nic turned away and looked at the ground, feeling a little insecure, but then began running again. Athos, on the other hand, walked back to his house.
He was well-aware that he should already be at work, as the sun was fairly high in the sky. However, his job was no longer such a high priority on his list. Athos had new objectives set in place for himself now that he was fully alone. None of them would have need of his silly guard-job anymore.
