I quickly shot some lightning at him, but he dodged it! He slashed a large broadsword at us, but I rose a pillar of earth to block it. I then sent the pillar flying at him. It made contact, and the guard was out cold.
__"Phew! We are safe Guthix!" Jephazar said in relief.
__"Not quite," said a figure as it came out of the shadows. The figure was tall and menacing. It was wearing a black robe with opulent designs. Out of the hood peered a gaunt, white skull with piercing yellow eyes that appeared to be full of lightning. It was another Mahjarrat, and I sensed that he was a powerful one too. The passage was blocked behind us, and the Mahjarrat stood before us. We were cornered. He knocked us both into the wall. Stunned, we were helpless. "It seems like I underestimated you, Guthix. No matter. Your plan has failed. You will pay for your insolence! And your friend shall too!" With that, the Mahjarrat knocked us both out. We were in trouble.

Chapter 13
We woke up in a large open-air amphitheater. There were hundreds of thousands of Mahjarrat in the audience. They were cheering heartily. The air was filled with thrill and excitement. Jephazar was across the field from me. I started to run towards him, but after a few feet, I stopped dead in my tracks. it felt as though I had slammed into the ground after falling from a fifty foot high wall. I was thoroughly winded. Just then, a voice sounded, and the crowd fell silent.
__"Greetings Mahjarrat! Welcome to the monthly prison brawl! This time it's going to be bloody, gruesome, and exciting!" the voice shouted. Everyone cheered. I had a bad feeling. The voice continued.
__"On the east side, you can observe the mighty Krakhalion, ready to pummel any who face it!" I looked to where the announcer was pointing. The Krakhalion was enormous. It resembled a gigantic lion. It had vicious claws. the body was that of a horse. It had a dog-like face surrounded by a tangled mane of thick black hair. It had fangs as big as elephant tusks and its gaze was filled with hellfire. it looked incredibly deadly.
__"The Krakhalion will face the pathetic maggot. Guthix, who you can see in the southeast corner." The crowd booed, jeered, and cat-called. "Fight!" The announcer shouted. The Krakhalion pounced, and I prepared to dodge.
**I quickly rolled out of the way. The Krakhalion missed by a hair's breadth. I quickly ran away. I did not stop until I reached the force field at the halfway point. The Krakhalion was almost upon me. I jumped out of the way, but not before a vicious claw raked my back. The slash sent a jolt of searing pain up my spine. I tried to ignore the feeling of warm blood flowing down my back and ran. I heard powerful jaws snap shut behind me.
__I stopped for a moment to rest because I was out of breath. I could not keep running. I turned around to face my adversary. I shot a large fireball at it. It made contact, but the Krakhalion only shrugged it off.

It must have fireproof fur! I knew I had to change tactics, and fast. all of a sudden, I felt a slash that made my nerves feel like they were on fire. I twisted just in time to see a Mahjarrat teleporting away.
__I was distracted for long enough. The Krakhalion barreled me over and I felt a tremendous impact. I was in a lot of pain. I tried to throw the Krakhalion off, but it was so big that I could barely move. I was trapped, pinned to the ground. I knew the end would come if I did not act fast.
__I attempted to shake the ground with my powers, but it did not work. Perhaps there was some spell keeping the ground stable? I then tried to summon a beast to my aid, but I could not. My powers weren't working, and with each second I felt more and more slashes rake my body. My time was running out. I shouted.
__"Jephazar, help!" I looked through the force field, but I could not see him. The Krakhalion started biting me with its vicious fangs. I felt something flowing into my veins. The beast had poisonous teeth!
__My struggles began to weaken, and I felt my strength fading as blackness began to engulf me. The beast stopped attacking me, determined to make me die a slow painful death. However, my blood was strong enough to keep the poison from completely killing me. I opened my eyes, and witnessed something happen that I didn't expect.
__"Alright folks, lets give it a rest. Guthix needs to be alive for the real show to happen. Give the Krakhalion a round of applause!" The announcer shouted. The crowd cheered, clapped, and shouted. The real show? What did the announcer mean? Whatever it was, I did not like the sound of it.
__"Now, put your hands together for the veteran and prison brawl champion, JEPHAZAR!" The crowd booed him, insulted him, and otherwise disrespected him. The announcer continued, "Jephazar, Guthix's partner in their feeble escape attempt, will be fighting Guthix to the death!" *Oh no!* I thought. "FIGHT!" the announcer shouted.
__I did not know what to do.

I was wounded, and the poison had weakened me to the point of semi-consciousness. Not to mention I did not have my powers. Jephazar was a formidable warrior, and he was not injured.
__"Please!" I pleaded, "I do not want to fight you!"
__"I have no choice! The arena is crawling with Mahjarrat!" he said as he swung his sword at me. I dodged, rather clumsily. I felt the poison eating at the edges of my mind as I dodged.
__"You DO have a choice! You could help me escape!" I said as I evaded another swing.
__"It would take a miracle to help us escape from here!" he said. He swung the sword. It sliced a g@sh in my shoulder, and I fought the blackness tugging at my mind. I would easily die if I could not find a way to fight back! I rolled out of the way of another swing and my shoulder screamed in protest. My eyes swam, and I fought the urge to black out.
__I Decided to try the offensive. I was unarmed, and greatly weakened by my injury and the poison, but I was still stronger then most men. I performed a series of evasive rolls, always making sure that I used my good shoulder. I jumped up as fast as I could and kicked Jephazar from behind. He swung around, using his momentum to put a lot of power behind the swing. I bent back and the sword just missed my head, slicing off a few hairs. I needed to disarm him. There was no way I could defeat an armed opponent in my condition. While I was dodging, I had an idea.
__After dodging a slash, I ran towards the force field. It was still a good fifty yards away. Just then, Jephazar slashed again, and he hit my left leg. I fell face first. My leg would not move. Just as I thought I was done for, I noticed something. I observed his swings. They were very well timed and calculated. They were so precise, I noticed a pattern to his complex form: left, right, diagonal up left, down, diagonal up right, twist, pommel strike, diagonal down left, diagonal up right. Occasionally he would add a trick, but he was mostly consistent. I had an idea

__I carefully observed while I evaded his swings. My injured leg hurt like hellfire, but it held my weight. It was a hindrance, but I could still manage. The poison still clouded my mind, but adrenaline was helping me stave off the blackness. I continued dodging his swings, watching the pattern: left, right, diagonal up left, down, diagonal up right, twist, pommel strike, diagonal down left, diagonal up right, left, right, diagonal up left, down, diagonal up right, twist, pommel strike, diagonal down left, diagonal up right. My timing had to be perfect. Then, right after his first diagonal up right, I watched the twist of his wrist and sent a furious kick to interrupt his pommel strike. Heard a satisfying snap as his wrist broke. His sword was knocked away. Then, I was caught off guard as Jephazar aimed a vicious kick at my bad leg.
__I fell to the ground in agony. The darkness began invading my senses again. I fought it. I began crawling towards the sword. Jephazar began running. I tripped him and got up. It was agonising, and my senses were beginning to fade, but I *had* to get to the sword first, and walking was faster than crawling. I picked up the sword. Jephazar would not give up. He kicked my bad leg again. I fell to the ground, in agony. The pain was bringing about the tendrils of unconsciousness, but I made sure to keep that sword firmly in my grasp.
__Jephazar began beating me. I cut a g@sh in one of his legs. He fell to the ground and I kicked his leg right where I cut it. He kicked me in my bad leg once more. The darkness blocked everything else from my mind, but I managed to fight it off, and get up again. I sliced his bad leg again. I was ready to finish Jephazar off, but decided not to. The crowd did not like this.
__"I will not finish him!" I declared. The crowd booed me. They threw things. Several even fired arrows and cast spells down at me. I dodged them all.
__"Hey folks! What happens when challengers refuse to fight?" the announcer asked.

__"We make them!" someone shouted.
__"Exactly! If they don't wish to fight each other, they must fight the regional warlord! Who is our local warlord?" the announcer inquired.
__"Kraal-ba-zaar! Kraal-ba-zaar! Kraal-ba-zaar!" the crowd chanted.
__"Correct!" the announcer shouted jovially, "Kraalbazaar will fight the maggots!"
__"Yayyy!" the crowd cheered. Suddenly, a Mahjarrat teleported in front of us. It was the same Mahjarrat who stopped our escape. It was the same one who held an enormous grudge against me. It was the same one who sometimes traveled in the guise of FBI Special Agent Trop Faux.
__"Time to die!" he said. We were in for the fight of our lives.

Chapter 14
__This was not good. Jephazar and I were severely wounded, and a Mahjarrat warlord was about to fight us.
__I still had Jephazar's sword. I held it with my good arm. Kraalbazaar was holding the wicked dagger in his left hand, and a large swor din his right. The sword glowed with an aura that reeked of a thousand and one curses, ready to eviscerate anyone slashed with it.
__I had no idea how I could beat him. I had Jephazar but he could not walk. I knew what I should do. I picked up Jephazar and ran as fast as I could with my wounded leg.
__Kraalbazaar was on my heels. He sheathed his sword, and shot a fireball at me. I jumped out of its path, and it hit the force field, decimating it. He was that powerful?!
__He was that powerful! I looked around and saw the gate of the Krakhalion's cage. I had a thought...
__Certainly, they must let out the Krakhalion to exercise and hunt. There was not an endless supply of prisoners. Sure enough, I glimpsed daylight shining from the other side. I ran towards the cage and stood directly in front of it. I just needed a fireball.
__It came. I leaped out of the way. The fireball hit the cage, demolishing it. The Krakhalion was unleashed.
__I quickly ran towards the cage. The Krakhalion gnawed and gnashed behind us. i ran towards the light. Suddenly, I stumbled! I fell, and dropped Jephazar. The Krakhalion was upon us. I kicked Jephazar to the side and began slashing. I made contact, and the Krakhalion paused for a moment. I quickly picked up Jephazar and ran outside.
__The view was awe-inspiring. Yet it was also miserable. Before me I saw a blood-red waste. The soil was stained from years of ceaseless conflict. There were craters everywhere, testament to the dark and evil magicks used by the (V)ahjarrat. There was no structure, nor living creature within view. The sky was a dark orange, reminiscent of flames. Clouds shrouded the sun.
**Then I heard the Krakhalion begin pursuit again.

__I picked up Jephazar again, then quickly ran out into the barren wastes. I ran for my life, always hearing the Krakhalion at my heels. The gnawing and gnashing were barely audible, drowned out by the sound of my adrenaline-filled blood rushing through my veins. As I navigated the desolation, I had to dodge craters, and fissures, and all manner of pools filled with everything from glowing poison to boiling lava, to substances that should never be described in language. I had a thought to trick the beast into one of the deathly ravines, but none of them were the right size and shape. So I ran on.
__But, there were invisible dangers as well. I ran headlong into an invisible wall of some kind. I dropped Jephazar and the sword and was stunned. The foul creature caught up to me. It sl@shed at me, and I dodged it, just barely. But, my dodge came with a price. I left the unconscious warrior unguarded. The Krakhalion lunged, and I thought it was over for Jephazar.
__Suddenly, the impossible occurred. Jephazar came to!. He grabbed the sword and, still lying down, thrust it into the maw of the monster. The beast was smitten, and fell to the ground. I was amazed.
__"How on earth did you wake up so quickly?" I said.
__"Simple. I was not asleep." Jephazar replied.
__"But... it seemed you were as immobile as a mountain."
__"It seemed so, but I was not. One does not live in a dead world without knowing how to be dead."
__"Well, at any rate, we had best tarry not. We must find a place to camp for the night." With that, I terminated the conversation, and picked up Jephazar. As we walked away from the Krakhalion, we did not see the whiskers of the beast twitch. I walked parallel to the wall with Jephazar over my right shoulder and my left arm outstretched to feel my way around the wall. I felt the end of it and turned left. It was a two-dimensional wall, and had no depth. I walked forward through the ruddy plains, looking for a hole that was relatively free of foulness.

__After about two and a half hours, we found one. It was a narrow ravine, but we could see the bottom and ends. We saw no sign of life, or foul magicks in it. So, we laid down and got as cozy as one can be when starving, injured, and thirsty. The orange sky was darkening to red, then black, and soon the land was shrouded in darkness. The corrupted sun had set. There was no moon or stars. We arranged watches. I was to watch first. I insisted on watching all night, but Jephazar would not let me. So, I was to awaken him at midnight.
__I began to watch as I heard Jephazar fall into a troubled sleep. I watched as vigilantly as I could, but I too was injured and fatigued, and I soon dozed off. In what seemed like moments later, I heard a growl, in the darkness of the ravine. Then I heard a cacophonous roar. I was startled. The Krakhalion was still alive!
