Both of the boys stood perfectly still with their eyes transfixed on a moving pile of green next to a tree. Tash positioned his fists into a readied stance to prepare for whatever was about to emerge. It seemed to be something larger than a rabbit and even larger than a fox, and there also appeared to be more than one. Letting one hand slip to his side, Tash slid his fingers into his satchel. After a couple more seconds Rosco eased his body and let out a sigh of relief.
"Aruu," howled Rosco in a subdued tone. It sounded something like a dog when they wanted to get your attention without using an all out bark.
A similar grumble came out of the bush as Rosco moved in closer. He bent down and scrambled past the bush leaving Tash alone in the opening with a dumbstruck look across his face. More growling commenced and soon enough the boy crawled back out from the overgrowth with a wolf at his side.
"Tash, I'd like you to meet my leader. Arr ra ra rr," Rosco said first to Tash then to the animal at his side. Somehow he had managed to learn the wolf's language, yet it really just sounded like he was making random barking noises.
Tash approached the two of them and could see more wolves edging their way out of the woods. "I assume these would be your friends?" He crouched down and raised a hand above the wolf's head standing next to Rosco, but stopped and looked up for permission. Rosco nodded to him to let his leader's head be pat.
"Yup." Rosco waved his left hand at the beasts behind him to signal them in. "Looks like the whole pack came looking for me, I'm surprised." Another wolf walked up to his other side and barked more dog gibberish, yet somehow sounded concerned. Rosco smiled and pointed to his patched up wrist then to Tash. "Graa rra ra."
Tash ceased his petting and straightened himself out. "So you actually know how to speak with them? Your grumbles are real words?"
