grabbing a nearby guard and breaking his neck before stealing his sword.

Rahn and his men swarmed the smoke covered area slaying all who stood in their path.

The barbarians were out-numbered and defeated the war-chiefs head burning on a spike.

"You didn't think i would leave you with these savages now do you Ro!" Rahn walked towards the prison carriage slicing the lock off the door.

Ronan grabbed Rahn through his prison bars and kissed him, Rahn smiled and walked towards his men.

"Rahn....This is Maldor, He to is heading to Nar" Ronan brought the boy to his lord.

"You'll be safer riding with us" Rahn spoke towards the boy who simply noded and smiled simply gazing in awe.

Chapter 3: Missing In The Heart

The city was booming, merchant's selling their exotic new wares, Priests worshiping the Great Mother, Both civilian and High born walking along side one another. Nar! The Heart of Teragard.

"So Maldor where are you heading?" Magister

Rahn asked quizzically.

"To the Cathedral, Magister Sardois asked me personally to attend the gathering, my lord" Maldor answered quickly but his gazed fixed upon the grand city and the Cathedral that lay in its centre.

"Then i guess you can walk with us if that's the case" Ronan replied smiling.

"Indeed, Callin take the horses to the stables and head to the manner..make yourself at home boys." Rahn issued his orders before walking down the wide pebbled road towards the Cathedral.

"Ah Magister Rahn...Apprentice Maldor?" Magister kore stood at the top of the large Cathedral steps gazing down at the new arrivals. "Magister Kore Thankyou... I suppose we're the last.." Rahn quickly replied with a smile on his face. "Humf, No...Sardois and Valaris have still not arrived and Valk is somewhere in the city..as always" Kore bluntly stated.

"Magister Rahn, I have no objection from you entering these holy grounds but as for him....He is not Permitted!" Kore spoke blunty once more, anger growing in her voice as she blankly stared at Ronan.

Ronan turned his face to the side muttering under his breath.

"He is not leaving my side Kore!" Rahn spat back taking Ronan's hand as he did so.

"My word is fina..." But before Kore could finish a small door off to the right of the main-entrance swung open and out walked Larna quietly walking towards Kore's side.

"Magister Rahn, Welcome" Larna nodded her head before turning towards Kore.

"High Sister...You know the rules of the Magisters court...You have no right to deny entry to any of Teragards people, order must be maintained!" Larna calmly preached while Kore screwed up her face, rage growing in her eyes before she turned and walked back through the main-entrance.

"Rahn come on in" Larna spoke loudly enough so the retreating Kore could still hear.

Rahn, Ronan and Maldor quickly marched up the steps towards the entrance but before they could pass by Larna she gripped Rahn's arm and spoke towards his ear.

"Do not think i did this for you... I just wanted to see the look on that old Zealot's face" Rahn pulled his arm back and quickly made his way inside with the rest of his party leaving Larna quietly smiling on the steps gazing off towards the city.

"What is that!" A voice echoed off in the chamber barely lit by several torches.

"Ya-Yark my L-Lord" Another voice joined in on the conversation fear shaking his voice.

"I know who It iss...But why iss it on my dessk!" The voice hissed with disgust and failure. "My Lor.." A loud thud sounded around the dull cavern a pool of blood quickly flooded the floor, escaping from its own body that now rested near a desk, The man was ugly to behold, missing teeth and scars all over his face with a fresh one around his neck, it wore dark fabric clothing tied with a belt, its buckel a circle spiraling inward.

The desk was made of the finest of wood coated in gold, books and pages laid across it and in the middle was the barbarian Warchiefs head.

"I Guess ill have to pay her another visit later, but first I've got business to attend to" The masters voice spoke to himself sniggering as he left the room.

Mara and Ronan sat on the dining bench, Mara helplessly gazing at him, Rahn was off by the fire thinking only to himself, Maldor unpacking his books and quills at an empty table.

Mara and Ronan sat on the dining bench, Mara helplessly gazing at him, Rahn was off by the fire thinking only to himself, Maldor unpacking his books and quills at an empty table.

"Mara you said something about your new food?" Magister Larna spoke sitting on a large wooden chair in the middle of the chamber.

"Oh! food!" Mara jumped hitting her knee of the table before rushing off towards the door next to the fire.

"He's cute" Mara giggled in Rahn's ear before leaving through the doorway.

"Now lets discuss these barbarians Rahn" Larna spoke softly with an intrigued look on her face.

"We were heading for the city we stopped to get fresh water and feed the horses thats when they came from the hill, somehow they knew we were coming.." Rahn said with sorrow

"They were waiting for us!" Ronan added.

"It hit us by surprise we were caught of guard" Rahn continued to tell Larna of their meet with the barbarians sorrow striking his voice for every man he had lost in the battle.

"So Maldor, When did they catch you?" Larna questioned.

"I was traveling alone unarmed and no battle experience they caught me making a fire a few hours before the Lighting" Maldor stated before looking at Rahn,

"It's to him i owe my life... he saved us and brought me here safely" Maldor gazed upon Rahn and bowed with Rahn nodding back with a smile on his face.

"Explosions and barbarians all in one night..." Larna puzzled to herself.

"Where is Valaris?" Rahn openly stated.

"She has not arrived in the city yet" Kore entered the room.

"But....Her horse was near the stables.." Rahn was puzzled.

"What? When?" Kore quickly responded.

"She would have come here first." Larna added.

"When we arrived I sent one of my men to tie up our horses I could have sore it was there" Rahn quickly replied.

"This is grave news.. Rahn if she did indeed make it to the city...Then she must be in danger...Go into the city...search everywhere!" Larna barked her orders.

"Please Hurry" Kore added.

Rahn nodded and ran out the door with Ronan at his side.

"Maldor there's a room on the second floor 6th door to the left, use it as you own" Kore smiled towards the boy.

"Thank You Sister" Maldor smiled greatfully.

"4...5...6! this is it" Maldor quietly counted the doors along the wall, As he opened the 6th door he gazed upon a grey haired man sitting on the chair at the edge of the bed, he wore a jet-black top and trousers, a bright red and black coat wrapped around his back tied with a sash and on it lay a dark red badge of a circle spiraling inward.

"I'm Sorry...Wrong room" Maldor stated as he walked backwards out of the room embarrassed.

"This is your room Maldor?...6th door on the left?" The stranger stated smiling.

"Err Yes? Forgive me but who are you?" Maldor questioned.

"Magister Valk!" The Magister Hissed towards the shaking boy.

"For-Forgive me, My Lord" Maldor dropped his belonging dragging his head towards the floor bowing in-front of his better.

"Get up!" Valk hissed once again.

"Magister Sardois has asked that i personally take care of you here in Nar" Valk calmly stated with a smile stretching from one end of his face to the other.

"Th-Thankyou, My lord" Maldor picked himself up off the floor.

"I'll be seeing you." Valk stood up off the seat and walked out the door leaving Maldor speechless and scared.

Chapter 4: Liar of Snakes

The tavern was flooded with civilians celebrating the Nightfall, cheering, laughter and even the odd spillage of drink rang through the street.
Rahn and Ronan walked through the tavern door being greeted with a vile stench of vomit and beer.
“Rahn, over there” Ronan whispered into his lords ear while pointing towards an old shady man sitting at the far back by himself.
“May we join you kind sir?” Ronan politely asked the old man with a smile on his face.
“Gah, if the drinks are on you” The stranger replied with an uneasy tint in his eye as he pulled his waistcoat tighter to hide an emblem of a staff.
“I wouldn't have it any other way” Rahn said with a smile on his face before heading off to the bar.
“So.... Did you watch the Nightfall?” Ronan asked to pass the time by.
“No.* replied the stranger.
“Oh-really? Why not?* Ronan's suspicions grew.
“Cos* The stranger sat up right anger striking at his voice.
“Alright...calm down....just being pleasant” Ronan said before giving an uneasy smile.
“Young ins these days” The stranger muttered under his breath before Rahn returned with the beers.
“So... Sir Lorif, where is Magister Valaris” Rahn questioned as he sat the beer's on the table.
“Eh... How would an old man like me know a question like tha...” and before the stranger finished he pushed back his chair and flipped the table and ran out the back door.
*Let's go after him!” Rahn yelled before giving chase.
The old stranger ran as fast as he could but the guardians caught up to him with ease.
Rahn leaped at the mans feet making him fall to the ground.
"Where is she" Rahn yelled as the civilians fled the scene.
"I....Don't know...." the stranger stuttered.
"You are Sir Lorif yes?" Ronan questioned with anger.
"Y... Yes.....they....they'll kill me!" Lorif started sobbing on the floor.
"If you don't tell us where she is I'll kill you!" Rahn ordered unsheathing his sword.

"Please no.... They approached me while i was in the markets..I arrived before Magister Valaris, They said they will spare me and my men and pay our weight in gold if we handed her to them.. I'm...I'm sorry!" Lorif could no longer control himself tears rushing down his face.
“I... I deserve to die.... Betraying my Master."
"Who took her!" Rahn sheathed his sword and pulled Lorif to his feet.
"They did not tell me who they were....but they wore belts with the Spiral crest..." Rahn let go of the old man who continued to reel about the ground crying and moaning uncontrollably.

Rahn walked away down an old alleyway with Ronan quickly in pursuit.
"Rahn?" Ronan asked before putting his hand on his shoulder.
"It's Valk!" Rahn quickly replied looking towards the ground.
"Magister Larna said he was somewhere in the city...but where?" Ronan questioned.
"Where do all snakes hide....In the Ground!" Rahn spoke with fury.

Maldor searched the memorial gardens, the merchant shops and the taverns to no avail, He wore his backpack full of his belongs which weighed him down.
"Where could they be..." Maldor quizzed himself before walking down an old alleyway
Maldor leaned against the wall and gently fell down to the ground resting and thinking.
"Maldor?....Rahn it's Maldor!" Ronan walked around from the corner of the alleyway towards the apprentice grabbing his hand and pulling him up.
"Thank The Mother i found you" Maldor yelled with glee while Rahn and Ronan stood surprised.
"Whats wrong Maldor?" Rahn asked.
"I was asked to return to Talo, I wanted to see you before i leave...To say thanks for saving my life" Maldor bowed to the floor while Rahn stood in shock.
"Get up Maldor.....I'm sure you would have done the same" Rahn spoke softly fighting back the redness growing in his cheeks.
"Thank You, Rahn and to you Ronan as well... Valk has ask..."
"Valk!?" Ronan spat out in shock.

*What, When? Where is that snake?" Rhan yelled griping the boy's shoulders.
"Just after... After you left he was waiting in my room, said I had to return home then he just left, I watched him out the window he walked towards the Memorial Gardens" Maldor quickly replied confused about what had happened.
"Maldor...Valk cannot be trusted!" Rahn quickly stated.
"We believe he is holding Valaris prisoner" Ronan added.
"What? ... Please Rahn... Let me help..." Maldor replied in shock.
"He could be useful Rahn.."
"Very well but the first sing of danger you hide!" Rahn calmly replied before the trio walked off towards the Gardens.

The Gardens were vast, finely cut bushes and bloomed flowers. Each family had its own segments of the Garden littered with statues and plaques of heroes past.
"Well never find him in here!" Ronan bowed his head in sorrow.
"We must try, lets split up.. I'll take the right half and you can have the right we'll meet in the star segment" Rahn quickly replied twisting his head in every direction trying to look for a sign.
"Maldor come with me" Rahn said once again before the party split up.
"Maldor keep your eyes open for any sign of Valk.... We must find him soon!" Rahn put his hand on the boy's shoulder.
The duo walked into the rows of bushes quickly losing sight of Ronan far behind.
They walked for hours with no sign of Valk ever entering they soon regrouped at the star family segment.
"The snake is no-where to be seen Rahn.... We should try to get help from the other Magisters" Ronan pleaded.
"He has to be somewhere in here!" Rahn stared towards the sky trying not to lose hope.
"My lord.... to the south there's a large scaffolding...its narrow...but I'm sure I could climb to the top." Maldor replied willing to help.
"It's too dangerous Maldor..."Rahn replied shaking his head.
"Rahn...It could help find Valaris faster" Ronan put his hand on his lord's shoulder.

“Fine but please be careful" Rahn lowered his head towards the floor.

The group ran south towards the large Scaffolding which rose high above the gardens in its center a half built statue of a man.
Maldor quickly made his way to the top trying not to fall.
"Be careful" Rahn yelled.
"I'm alright! I'm almost there!" the apprentice yelled back.
"Come on..I must help" Maldor spoke towards himself.
"You're there! Any sign of where Valk might have gone?" Ronan yelled at the top of his lungs.
Maldor clinging the nearby post peered over the wooden floor looking towards the gardens.

The gardens were even stranger and more secretive looking from the top, for who ever built it sought to hide something within it.
Six spirals made up the gardens each belonging to a family but there was another spiral at its center with one clear pathway to it.
"I think I've found it!" Maldor yelled down to his friends before quickly climbing back down himself.
"The gardens...It's... A map."Maldor shouted with glee while trying to catch his breath.
"What do you mean?" Rahn spoke in shock.

"The gardens were designed to hide something but you can't find it on the ground you gotta look from the sky to see the pathway! It starts at Valk's segment, come on!" Maldor finally caught his breath and ran towards the starting point with his friends quickly following.

"It started here!"Maldor yelled as the party reached Valk's segment with three possible entryways.
"Which way?" Rahn barked without hesitation.
"I....Let me think" Maldor bowed his head making marks on the ground,
"Gah...I...I can't remember....there was just so many turns." Maldor bowed his head between his legs.
"It...It's not your fault...you helped us nonetheless" Ronan comforted the boy.
Rahn furiously studied his surroundings pacing up and down each entryway.

"Let's head back to the Cathedral perhaps Valk will return there, Rahn" Ronan pulled his lord's arm and they both walked back out of the gardens.

“Why......Why cant i remember..."Maldor taught to himself waving his head side to side.

A small stone sticking out of the soil caught his eye.
The boy lent over and brushed the dirt off it and on it lay a circle with a spiral, Three lines at the top and a stroke through the right one.
"I've found it!" Maldor yelled his voice blasting through the gardens.
Rahn and Ronan quickly ran back.
"Here....The stone is the key!" Maldor handed them the stone before running off.
Rahn smiled and grabbed Ronan as they quickly followed picking up a stone to each pathway they came to.

The party ran in circles turning in every possible way, the bushes got taller and the floors began to disappear.
"Dead end?" Rahn quickly stated halting the party.
"What?...We did it all right?" Ronan remarked.
"Search everywhere" Rahn issued his orders as they all pulled every bush and plant apart.
"Nothing..." Ronan flung himself to the ground. A hollow sound came from under him dust being blown into the air.
"Ronan!..you found it!" Rahn smiled with glee pulling Ronan up.
"Help me open it!" Rhan and Ronan pulled the large door open before the trio descending beneath, climbing deeper into the cold dark void.
A dull light started to brighten the never-ending darkness of the narrow corridor.

"Wh...What is this place?" Maldor whispered.
"The snake's lair!" Rhan drew his sword while picking up the torch.
"Here...you might need this" Ronan handed his dagger to Maldor before drawing his sword.
The trio moved deeper into the tunnels ready for the worst.

The tunnels grew wider with more torches stuck to the walls, the tunnel opened into a small chamber, small book piles stacked on the floor, large paintings covered with old cloths and cobwebs water dripping down of the ceiling a large metal door blocked their path.
A large Snake spiraled around the metallic door.
"It won't budge!" Ronan grunted trying to push and pull the door.
