Wulvash

After Wulvash let go of his halberd, the glowing on the pirate's gauntlets stopped completely. However, when he moved forward to execute another shield bash, the pirate used the weapon to block the attack, and for half a second the glow returned, before fading again once the shield was pulled back.

Then Wulvash swung upward with the flail. Although the halberd would be unwieldy if the pirate tried to attack with it, he was still strong enough to lift and around with it relatively quickly. He stepped out of the way and at the same swung the but of the halberd downward, catching the flail and causing the chain and ball to wrap around the weapon.

Then he threw the halberd to the ground at his own feet and stepped on it, pinning both the halberd and flail beneath his own weight. If Wulvash did not let go of the flail, the Drakonian would end up being pulled down as well.

At the same time, the pirate transferred his axe to from his right hand with his left hand. He then reached forward with his right hand to grab Wulvash's shield, before attempting to shove it aside to Wulvash's left.

There was no magic here; merely the pirate's natural strength. He was clearly hoping that with the flail being pinned to the deck, Wulvash's attention would be diverted downward, and the shock of that combined with the pirate's sudden movements would catch the overgrown lizard off-guard.

As the pirate tried to shove the lizard's shield aside, he would then try to bring the back end of his axe down on Wulvash's head. Assuming that attack was not interrupted, he would then follow up by swinging the bladed end at Wulvash's right arm.

All of this happened in the space of a couple seconds. Assuming Wulvash didn't find some way to interrupt it, of course.

Griselda

How a thrust aimed for Griselda's throat managed to get caught in her visor was a mystery, but apparently the pirate had bad aim. But Griselda would successfully grab the weapon, and her attack would indeed connect, cleaving through the pirate's upper shins and bringing him to his knees.

---

Octavius

As Octavius leapt, the spellsword let loose a fireball aimed straight at him. And because the centurion had jumped, there was no way to adjust his course in mid-air. Indeed, it seemed as though the pyromancer's attack would catch him square in the chest.

But then the Centurion's free hand came flying out to knock aside the blade, and though it had not been Octavius's intention, it would end up accidentally blocking the fireball. Although his left hand and wrist would be horrifically burned (made even worse by the fact that it then swatted aside a sword that was also on fire), it undoubtedly saved him from a far more severe injury.

As for the kick, that would strike true. It caught the pyromancer in the gut and knocked him on his back, gasping for air.

---

Zensira

Enemy and ally alike stopped to stare in bewilderment at the watery tentacles that rose from the sea. Captain Robert, the Red Ranger Company, the Black Rose company, the pirates on the second ship... the only ones who weren't transfixed were the ones fighting for their lives in the melee.

Then, the tentacles came crushing down on the quarterdeck, killing or incapacitating all who stood upon it. The pirate crew on the main deck stared, their mouths agape, before the Captain desperately shouted for them all to board. And indeed, they did, hurling themselves across the small gap between the ships, landing on the Sea Drake where they were met by the bared steel of Commander Alba's force.

Soon the entire ship had effectively been deserted - between the hole in the hull and the massive tentacles, the pirates clearly concluded that the thing was nothing short of a deathtrap.

---

Meanwhile...

Two figures, one in white and one in blue, appeared on deck - Masters Kennith and Wylan. Their expressions carried visible concern as they looked around and assessed the situation. But then, they turned and spoke a few words to each other, before taking action.

With a wave of his hands, Kennith propelled himself into the air, over the heads of the Arenar Company and onto the ship that had boarded the Sea Drake in the first place. Gesturing with wide sweeps of his hands, he began unleashing gusts of wind that started knocking the pirates who stayed behind into the water.

Meanwhile, Master Wylan closed his eyes and concentrated. A platform of solid ice floated out of the water and toward him. He stepped on it, and then used his powers to levitate it over to the first ship. In the meantime, several razor sharp spikes of ice came from the water as well and begun to float in the air around him.

Once he made it to the ship, he stepped next to Master Kennith, and began to unleash icey hell, as the ice spikes then proceeded to embed themselves into the chests and backs of the pirates.

The Twins

Seeing that even their increased effort had failed to bring down the two Drakonians, and the Sea Drake's crew still fought on, many in the enemy boarding party began to think their situation was hopeless. They turned to flee back to their own ship, only to see the mages wrecking havoc of their own, and thus they realized they had no choice but to keep fighting.

The battle on this side of the ship was nearly won now. The spellsword, the man with the whip, and the armoured captain all stood out from the rest. Perhaps if the two Drakonians assisted in defeating any of those foes, the rest of the enemy crew would surrender.

Back to Zensira

No one seemed to have clued in to the fact that it was Zensira who conjured up the watery tentacles, and many instead cast glances to the water master who appeared on deck, perhaps assuming it was his work.

"Enough gawking!" Captain Robert shouted. "Draw swords and follow me!" With that, he drew his own cutlass and thundered down the stairs, with Royce and the Red Ranger Company right behind him. He led them directly into the boarders from the second ship, catching them in the flank and cutting through them like butter.

Zensira, meanwhile, was left alone. There were no more archers left to attack her, and the fight was nearly won, but she could still contribute even further if she chose to do so.

Wulvash's foe was not the only one who could do the unexpected.

With his attack having been highly telegraphed the drakonian was unsurprised when his opponent dodged, even less surprised by the ball and chain hooking around the handle of the halberd. In fact, this was something he had almost been counting on.

Mid-way through the halberd being thrown to the ground Wulvash had released it, his arm unrestricted and able to act as the pirate switched his axe to his left hand - and thus his hand darted out and grasped pirate's arm holding the axe just underneath his gauntlet. His grip became like iron while he happily allowed his shield to be turned aside by the pirate's outstretched hand, the reason being clear a half second later as the massive bulwark crashed against the deck - its fastenings loosened to the point where his arm slipped free during the push.

With the pirate in the ending throes of pushing the shield aside his arm was outstretched, giving the drakonian his chance to dart in and similarly attempt to grasp the outstretched limb - just below the gauntlet. If successful Wulvash would focus his efforts into maintaining his iron grip on both of the pirate's arms, preventing his opponent from twisting his hands in any way to touch those gauntlets against anything - and would finally be able to use his superiour strength to force the pirate back against the railings.

If successful, he would proceed to slam his horned, helmeted head into the pirate's face.

Annie saw the bald man was able to block her attack. She was about to make her next move. Then all of the sudden the man punch her in the face. She was in shock and made her feel dizzy but, she was going to keep fighting. After the punch she was able to loop her sword as fast as an elf trying to stab his chest. -Dances-

With no pirates remaining on the ship, and no archers left to fire at her, Zensira’s job was nearly done. Nearly. Only one thing remained to do, as the boarders did not present an active threat to her. They may have abandoned the ship, and it may have begun to look as though it was no longer usable, but the only way to ensure this was to make sure the vessel could no longer operate.

And that was exactly what she did. Using her water constructs with her continued channel, Zensira moved them to the center of the vessel before elongating them once again and wrapping them around the hull. Once they had, they began to squeeze. With nobody left on the vessel to try and stop them, and less structural integrity than it probably had before, there was little to stop her from accomplishing her goal and cracking the vessel in half.

Only once the ship was no longer whole, and the pieces were sinking into the ocean, would she cease her activities. Her fingers would stop moving, her eyes would lose their focus on the site of the magic, and she would stand back where she had been. She said nothing and did not address the arrow in her shoulder.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Annie

With an expression that said really? , the bald man parried Annie's sword aside with ease, before swinging his sword upward across her chest. Her armour saved her from the worst of it, but it still broke skin, cutting a sharp shallow gash diagonally across her chest. Annie would find herself stumbling backward, the front of her gambeson quickly turning red, and twisting her body or moving her arms would only make the pain even worse.

With a grin, the pirate stepped forward to finish her off.

"I need to axe you a question!"

Joric's axe caught the pirate in the back of the knee, causing him to scream and fall to the deck. "Painful, huh?" the dwarf said from behind. "you'll just 'ave to shoulder the burden!" He pulled his axe out and then brought it down on the pirate's shoulder, finishing him off.

---

Wulvash

Only when the Drakonian seized both of the pirate captain's hands did the man's grin finally break.

He was so caught off guard that he didn't resist when Wulvash slammed him into the the railing. It would seem that Wulvash's assessment was correct; because he was not gripping anything that Wulvash was also holding, the gauntlets' enchantment did not take effect, and thus, the human could not hope to match the lizard

Then the much larger and stronger Drakonian's head came smashing into his unprotected face. His head jerked back, and his body went limp as he fell into a state of unconsciousness.

With their leaders down, and their ship captured by mages, the dozen or so boarders who remained began to throw down their weapons and surrender. The crew and mercenaries alike began to cheer.

Zensira

The ship groaned, cracked, splintered, and creaked in protest as Zensira attempted to pull it down. Soon enough the deck began to split, though it required great effort on Zensira's part, and was immensely taxing. Finally, she managed to crack it in two, and sure enough the pieces began to sink. A few cries could be heard - it seemed there had still been some people below.

Taken in the flank and having just watched their vessel sink, the boarders from the new ship quickly threw their arms down and surrendered.

Zensira, however, would have little time to process this. A wave of dizziness washed over her. Her vision blurred, and suddenly she was falling, no longer possessing the strength to stand.

--

Aftermath

With the battle over, Captain Robert wasted no time. The wounded, including Octavius, Annie, and Zensira, were immediately taken below deck to be tended to by the healers and medics. Because all of their injuries were fairly severe, they would be placed high on the priority list.

The forty or so surviving pirates were disarmed and herded off to a corner of the deck. The uninjured members of Arenar and Red Ranger Company were assigned to keep an eye on them. The pirate captain was stripped of his gauntlets (which the Captain then gave to Wulvash) and tied to the mast. Meanwhile, Alba Karras's company and a detachment of crew were sent to do a sweep of the enemy ship, as the two mages came crossing back over.

"So, what's going to happen to this lot?" Master Wyman asked Captain Robert, just within earshot of Griselda and the Drakonians.

"We execute them, take anything of value from their ship, and leave it to drift." Robert answered bluntly.

Wyman frowned at that. "Seems a bit cruel. Not much better than what they might have done to us."

"You may not have noticed, mage," Robert answered bitterly, "but nearly twenty good men and women are dead because of them. Speaking of which, why didn't our illustrious leader see fit to assist us?

Wyman's eyes narrowed slightly. "Were we not enough? Besides, in Darius's defense, it is the job of you and the mercenaries to ensure his safety, not the other way around. Now, back to the topic of these pirates..."

"They die," Robert cut him off. "We imprison them and take them with us to Varia, they'll deplete our rations and be hanged anyway. We give them back their ship and part ways, and they'll just attack some other people. We disable their ship and set them adrift, and they'll starve to death if they aren't found, which is crueler than killing them. We recruit them and they'll turn on us. Killing them is the only sensible choice."

If anyone wanted to interject, this might have been their best opportunity to do so.

---

Below Deck

Octavius's gauntlet and shoulder plating were peeled off, taking some red and blackened skin with them. Healing magic was quickly applied, and though the burn was healed, the entirety of his left arm would remain forever scarred. Healing magic was also used to seal Annie's cut. For Zensira, the arrow was pulled out, the wound cleaned, and then covered with a magical poultice and a bandage.

Afterward the three of them were sent back to their bunks to rest up, along with the rest of the wounded, where they would have the opportunity to engage in conversation with each other if they wished.

The man who accosted Wulvash and Zensira earlier was there as well. He set a brief distrustful glare towards the Drow, but said and did nothing more.
