Annie saw the bald man in shock that she was able to duck under the whip made her very happy but upset that the whip hit someone else. The man pushed aside her bow and almost lost her fingers. It made her let her bowstring go and made her arrow fly harmlessly to the deck.

Then she saw the bald man thrusted his sword towards her stomach. She douge the attack by moving to the right missing her stomach. As she was doing that she put her bow on her back and drew her sword. After that move she twisted her sword to the left trying to hit his left shoulder.

To call his opponent's move unexpected would be pushing things a little. Well-versed in the handling of his halberd, and plenty of battle experience, had shown Wulvash that many thought themselves capable of rendering his weapon useless by grasping the shaft of the halberd before he could draw the weapon back from a mighty thrust - perhaps believing they could then break the weapon in two with a solid strike from their weapon, or some other foolish notion. There were many ways to counter such an action, the most basic of which was to utilize his great strength to pull it free anyway - often slicing through his enemy's hands upon doing so.

What WAS unexpected was the unusual magic emanating from his enemy's gauntlets. Wulvash pulled his weapon as he would usually do as a first resort, but found to his surprise that he was unable to retrieve it. Not from any reason that he could feel aside from one - his opponent's strength was more than what he had expected. But the drakonian was no fool, the obvious glow of magic meant that whatever this problem was it was due to those gauntlets, and being deadlocked would not grant him victory. Thus he performed a follow-up - one more suited to breaking a stalemate of strength.

With a sharp and practiced movement he swung his shield sideways while setting his footing, toe-claws digging into the planks of the deck, the solid edge of his shield colliding with the side of his weapon's shaft. It was a swift motion, unlikely his opponent would realize and react to let go in time, the redoubling force enchantment of his shield causing the less prepared side - which in this case would not be Wulvash - of the halberd to go swerving to the side in a violent jerking motion. This would almost certainly take the pirate off-balance even with his stolen stength and heavy armour, if not force him to let go or else stumble to the ground of the unsteady deck.

At best his arm would be wrenched to the side before being forced to let go, likely

jarring it badly enough for a dislocation. If he didn't let go then he would be wrenched to the side, unbalanced, and likely forced to let go anyway due to momentum. Wulvash's own iron grip would remain solid, his arm aching somewhat but mostly unharmed, extended out to the side before he could pull it back in - assuming he was free to do so were the pirate dislodged.

The fact the shaft of his halberd didn't break or splinter from this impact made clear how fine the craftsmanship was - and the quality of the durability enchantment it contained.

With there being a few outcomes his next move would depend. Had his opponent miraculously managed to let go before impact he would bring his shield in tightly in preparation to repel an attack - whether a tackle, swing or otherwise. Had the pirate's arm been wrenched to the side, forcing his release, he would capitalize by stepping in and attempting to slam the front of his shield against him in a violent shield bash - which could knock the fellow over the railings. If he was wrenched to one side, thus providing a moment's breathing room, Wulvash would cast his halberd down behind himself and draw forth his flail - the chain extending down to the massive studded ball that was perhaps the size of a human head - then begin to wind it up with spins.

Other options were available... But I can't create them for every scenario.

Annie

Because Annie had to take the time to put her bow away and then draw her sword, the bald man was quickly able to recover his balance after his thrust. He brought his sword up to block Annie's attack, locking blades with her while his left hand (still clenched around the ship) flew forward to punch her in the face.

---

Wulvash

Wulvash's halberd moved maybe an inch, before suddenly coming to another stop, as if the man's strength had suddenly increased to match the force of his shield - and indeed, the gauntlets appeared to be glowing even brighter. In that same second after the shield made impact, he quickly pulled the halberd over his head and down again, twisting it so that the weapon's shaft was horizontal between the pirate and Wulvash's shield.

It seemed as if, whatever force was being applied to whatever the armoured pirate was holding, the gauntlets would always increase both his grip and his strength to match it. The reason he had been able to overpower Wulvash for that brief second was because his strength had grown to match that of Wulvash's enchanted shield.

But now, the glow seemed to fade slightly, indicating that the pirate had been lowered back down to Wulvash's regular strength.

---

Zensira

Soon enough, most of the enemy pirates had been killed or injured. Less than a handful still remained, while the rest had retreated either below deck or for cover. In contrast, the Red Ranger had only taken nine casualties in total - four dead and five wounded.

Suddenly, the back of Zensira's shoulder would explode in pain, as an arrow found its mark.

If she turned, she would see that the second ship was now bringing itself along the other side of the Sea Drake.

The ship itself was in rough shape, sitting lower in the water than it did before, and at a slight angle, as water streamed into the hole that had been rammed into the hull. The second ship's crew had no choice but to repair, sink, or board, and they had clearly opted for the latter. The ship nudged into the Sea Drake, their hulls scraping together as more grappling hooks were thrown. Now the ship would be assailed from both sides - this was clearly what the enemy had planned, and also what the captain had anticipated.

There were only a handful of archers on the quarterdeck of this ship. Everyone else seemed to be scrambling over to board the Sea Drake .

The Captain's voice rang out. "Red Rangers, shoot those bastards! Second row, turn around and prepare to receive boarders!" Both Commander Alba and Commander Royce immediately moved to comply. In the chaos he had yet to notice that Zensira had been hit.

Of all things to happen, Wulvash had not been expecting the loss of control over his halberd. Where a moment ago he had been confident his assault would knock the pirate off guard he had now been shown otherwise, the mysterious enchzantment on the man's gauntlets glowing brighter the moment his shield made impact with the shaft of his halberd. It was barely moved before the man was twisting the weapon and using it to defend himself against the shield bash, his weapon again absorbing the impact.

Realization kicked in then and Wulvash released the halberd - slamming forwards with his shield again at the same moment - where his opponent would be entirely unable to avoid the impact. While it would definitely strike his outstretched weapon the man holding it, guarding himself with it, would still take the redoubled impact that - based on the fainter glow of his gauntlets - no longer possessed the shield's great force.

However rather than press in afterwards Wulvash stepped back, the loss of his halberd frustrating him - but he was unbroken. Those gauntlets were a tricky tool, but without contact he presumed they would not be able to maintain the hold on his strength... Unless they could? His strength had been copied once the pirate took hold of the halberd, but he had also absorbed the strength of his shield once it clashed against the weapon, would that mean that any attacks directed against his shield would steal its force again? Or similarly, if he attacked and his attack was met by the pirate's weapon, would the strength be taken again?

Regardless he drew forth his flail, the hefty studded ball dangling low before he started to spin it - winding the weapon up with devastating momentum. Unlike his halberd the weapon was not in danger of being grabbed, but still...

He snorted. No. He wasn't going to be cowed by this pirate's trick.

Wulvash stepped in again and swung the built momentum of his flail diagonally upwards from below, attacking under the pirate's guard.

Griselda

Oh, good, I’m not on fire, and I hope that Drow is alright... Her thoughts were interrupted by a pirate who tackled into her, hurling the old gal and her human shield down. Her attacker, a spearman, proceeded to lunging his spear to her throat, where it promptly got jammed in her visor. In retaliation, Griselda grabbed the shaft, and then swung her longsword sideways at the pirate’s knees...

Octavius

“Ohh hoh hoh!” the centurion bellowed at the spellwarrior who had caught the head. It was nice that someone else had some colour to their character! Setting the hair on fire and throwing it at Octavius, the centurion smacked the incoming head away and continued charging. The pyromancer closed the distance as he planned, sword blazing with fire.

“Etia!” Octavius shouted, jumping and raising his sword up high with the blade down, whilst delivering a push kick and whipping his free hand upwards to smack aside the pyromancer’s blade with the back of his cuff...

The Twins

Surprisingly, the pirates were not at all disheartened by Caspara’s brutality or Xavakuun’s power, and even more swarmed the lizards. Xavakuun briefly saw that, apparently, Wulvash’s halberd got caught by the armoured pirate, who held it. This impressed Xavakuun, who did not realize the magic involved.

Panting, Xavakuun knew that even something as big as he couldn’t fend off a million humans. So, he continued his spinning combat style, swinging his battleaxes to and fro one after the other, constantly moving to attack in as many directions as possible to avoid being swarmed. He also continued flailing his tail and stomping into legs.

Caspara, being narrower and lighter, was not strained and continued fighting normally. She spat the guts in her mouth at her foes, and like her brother, whirled about wildly, swinging in many directions with her axe and war hammer and tail, anything to prevent being swarmed.

For now, it seemed the twins would have to face quite a lot of foes preoccupied with them! With Griselda, Wulvash, Octavius, Annie and Zensira busy with their own problems, it was up to someone else to react to horde of pirates attacking Xavakuun and Caspara, or prepare themselves for the incoming second ship...

But if you are about to come to harm, use everything at your disposal to defend yourself - witnesses be damned.

Such were the the words of her Master, the mantra by which everything that she did during this battle depended on, and the words that prompted her to finally formulate a response to the ongoing hostilities. The impact of the arrow had knocked her forward four steps, the stumble caused more by the unexpected force than the immediate burst of pain. Surprise was something she could not counter, unlike pain, which it had been part of her training to manage. A slave that had a singular purpose was expected to fulfill that purpose regardless of what else happened, and someone who was supposed to weave water into death for enemies needed to accomplish this whether they were injured or not.

She did not have an immunity to pain by any means, but the amount cause by an arrow penetrating her shoulder was within the limits of what she had been trained to expect. It was because of this that, despite the fact that it did indeed hurt, she ignored it, her attention turning to those that had let loose the shot. A stray arrow landing at her feet was not cause for alarm, nor cause for action, but a strike, whether it be accidental or not, was a direct threat to her and to her safety.

The water around the sides of the incoming vessel began to ripple, and as it pulled alongside the Sea Drake it began to rise up and out of the water. Six tentacle-like appendages rose up, each about a foot in diameter, until they were long enough to stretch up and over the deck that the bowmen were situated on. Until then, they grew only straight up, but once they reached the height where they could reach over and touch the far side of the deck with the top of the tentacle, they stopped.

For the briefest moment, they just stood there, motionless, appearing as though they were simply towers of water that were going to fall back into the sea. That moment was over before anyone had time to think, though, and it ended as all six of the appendages slammed down on the deck with bone crushing force. It was immediately clear that they were not just water: they were quite solid, and anything under them was almost certain to suffer a great deal of crushing damage from the impact.

Although she was drawing on said magic, Zensira did not look as though she was doing much of anything. Only slight, almost twitchy, movements of her fingers would show anything at all, as apart from that she just stood there and watched. That, too, might be a clue to someone who was trying to observe, as her focus on what was happening seemed almost unnatural.
