It felt like an earthquake as the King Black Dragon landed on the ground. Its central head reared back and spewed a jet of flames at Koshei, who raised up his round shield and ducked his body behind it. He felt like he was standing in a furnace, and could feel his shield slowly melting away. When the dragon stopped to intake another breathe of air, Koshei spun around and heaved his shield like a discus. It hit the dragon's central head in the temple, spurting specs of molten metal into its eye as it made contact.
The head roared out in pain and began spraying flames half blind across the entire town. Koshei gripped his sword with both hands and prepared to charge in, only for the head on the right to turn and open its massive jaws. Instead of fire, a cascade of icycles came from its mouth, each one over a foot long and sharp as a knife. Koshei barely managed to dodge in time, leaping to the side and taking temporary refuge behind the burnt remains of a charred house.
His moment of safety quickly ended as a poisonous green gas crept around the corner. Koshei quickly ran from his cover and back into the open, and as he did he could hear the earth shake as the dragon charged in towards him. Koshei had no idea which of the three heads it was the hit him, but he remembered horns puncturing his side, and the day seemed to explode around him. Everything turned black for a brief moment, and when the world stopped spinning he found himself laying across a broken table inside someone's house. One of the walls was completely missing and had turned to splinters from the impact. Through this hole he could see the King Black Dragon, and could hear Skrae's voice.
"Idiot! I told you not to injure him too badly for me!"
Koshei groaned. He could feel warm blood rushing across his torso. He reached down to touch it. His body felt oddly unresponsive, but he could still feel the hole gaping in his side.

The wound the dragon's horn had left had pierced him deep. It was so large that Koshei could fit his entire hand inside the wound. A broken rib rubbed against his arm, and on the other side his hand could touch the wood below him. Just like he had first thought, the horn had punctured him completely through, although luckily none of his organs seemed to have been messed up too badly.
Koshei thought of all the destruction outside being caused by the dragon, and how Skrae had laughed hysterically as he had slaughtered the people of the village. During his stay, Koshei had felt many different emotions: confusion, lonliness, depression. He had never felt anger before, but now it was the only emotion he knew. His pain began to dull as adreneline pumped through his veins.
His sword still lay beside him. Koshei grabbed it, and using it as a crutch, forced himself to his feet. His other hand wrapped around the edge of an oak dresser, and with a mighty heave, he sent the piece of furniture hurling towards the dragon. It shattered harmlessly of its scales, but the upwind of sawdust and wood particles obscured its vision long enough for Koshei to make his move. He roared, circling his sword above his head, and charged.

The dragon lurched forward, spraying fire down upon Koshei. He nimbly dodged to the side, raised his sword, and hacked into the nearest neck, his steel traveling clean through scales, muscle, and bone. The king black dragon roared, its leftmost head now barely hanging on by a few tendons, which quickly snapped under its own weight.
One of the remaining two head lunged at Koshei and snapped its jaws at him. He waited until the last moment and stabbed it through the open mouth. Blood gulched from the wound as the sword pierced through the roof of the mouth, into the brain, and emerged from the back of its head.
Koshei tried to withdraw his sword, but it had snagged inside the skull and he lost his grip as the dragon reared back onto its hind legs. In an instant, the creature dropped its taloned front legs upon Koshei with his full weight behind them.
Losing his sword had left him off balance, and the Fremmenik warrior had no time to dodge. He did the only thing he could do: raise his arms and catch the attack.
It felt like someone had dropped a mountain on top of him, over twenty-thousand pounds of force transferring from the dragon's paws into his arms. He felt his body being pushed into the earth like a nail, but his arms had not failed him. His entire body groaned under the weight, joints popping and bones creaking, but he did not let go. With a talon in each hand, he pushed back.

His shoulders, arms, and pecks burned, but inch by inch he began pushing the dragon off of him. The massive creature pressed down on him with all its power. Koshei grit his teeth. After so many years of laying dormant at the bottom of the ocean, he could feel his complete strength returning to him as his body was pushed to its limits. With one final push he heaved the dragon off of him and sent it rolling onto the ground.
Koshei didn't give the monster a chance to recover. He charged with no weapon but his fists. Jumping onto the back of the dragon's neck, he grabbed the two horns on top of its head and wrestled it to the ground. With its head pinned against the hard earth, the dragon opened its mouth and began spewing flames. The Fremmenik warrior squeezed his legs together around the dragon's neck. The flames instantly stopped as his knees crushed through scales and dug into the monster's windpipe.
With the king black dragon still pinned down, Koshei balled his right hand into a fist and brought it down onto its snout. Bones crunched under his knuckles. The dragon tried to roar, but with its throat being crushed, no sound came out.
Koshei punched it again and again. Rock hard scales and bones turned to sponge under his fist, and when he was done there was nothing left of the central head other than fragments of bone and a pink jelly that had been its brain.
With all three heads taken out, the king black dragon, the fabled creature that had terrorized the Wilderness for as long as anyone could remember, finally died. Koshei released his legs and walked over to the head with its sword still stuck in it. He planted his foot against its skull and pulled it free. With that taken care of, he turned to face Skrae.
He expected the Dragonkin to be furious, but instead he seemed overjoyed with the death of his minion. "Yes!" he screeched. "That's what I want to see. That's the old Koshei I remember! Now that your strength is back, attack me and let's finish this!"
