Chloelle looked towards the commotion occuring not far from where they were gathered around the King. But she was not so tall that she could just peer over everyone's heads and see what was going on. Gallus was handling the situation, and so she dismissed it from her immediate thoughts for Leon to catch her attention as he rose to his feet. Her chartreuse eyes caught sight of the key but for a moment, but she was surprised as any when he ordered for her to follow as well.

"I...Very well,"
she answered dutifully, her brow wrinkling in a frown. What did he plan to do? Take turns to read from the scroll?

It was Flynn's warm hand over her own that helped her to focus, and she began walking beside him at his direction. She deliberated his words as they left the throne room, entering the silence of the corridors.
"I understand - though do you really think the struggle for the throne will be a peaceful one?"
She asked meekly, sounding worried.
"Plus, we don't even know who did this. They timed it well - a fight between Scions would be the perfect time to harm the kingdom..."

Another breath.

The immediate danger appeared to have dissipated fully, though an uncertain tension still plagued the room. Reyner resolved that violence most likely wasn't going to be necessary... most likely. The Lord of Wheelton strode forward, now taking the opportunity to better see the king. He looked down wordlessly at the corpse of the man he'd never know.

No hint of sorrow crossed the scion's golden eyes, just hardened contemplation.

The immediate tension dissipated… for now. Adrienne looked on the scene in relative calm, thankful that her siblings weren’t giving the nobles any more senseless violence to talk about. An uneasy tone was set by Flynn’s concerns regarding the Scroll’s safety. It made sense that if portal magic was used, it could very well have bypassed all of the previously-necessary security measures.

Uncle Leon slipped a key off of the king’s – their father’s – body. Adrienne tried to keep reminding herself to think of him as her father in this moment. Before, it made sense to accept him as the twins’ father, but right now it felt so much easier to distance herself from the situation. So much of her diplomatic experience was as an outsider to whatever conflict, allowing her to serve as a relatively unbiased third party. But that was not the case here, now, where her own father lay dead on the floor, surrounded by onlookers.

A cluster of nobles uneasily formed on the other side of the room. Adrienne lightly connected to some of their minds; their emotions were flooded with concern, but they were facing away from the king. Unfortunately, Adrienne couldn’t quite see anymore past that, except to see that Gallus made his way over.

Once the crowd parted to allow her younger brother in, Adrienne could see Evvie sprawled on the floor. The girl seemed so young, so helpless there…

Rie walked over and knelt down, gently placing a hand on her younger sister’s shoulder. She did not wish to suffocate Eva in attention, but she could not shake a protective urge with regard to the younger girl.

“Can you move?”
Adrienne asked, then quickly motioned for a nearby servant to draw a chair over for her sister.

" Precisely why we cannot fight amidst ourselves, " Flynn immediately replied, eyes locked forwards as they marched on. " Our siblings are many things, but I would not call even a one of them stupid - we all can recognize that the ones responsible for this, at least in part, wish for us to turn against each other. All the easier for them to carry out whatever follows this crime. "

The prince's thoughts flashed between the faces of his brothers and sisters, creeping concerns crossing his mind that whispered all manner of possibilities over what they did or did not know. He purposefully shoved all thoughts of one of them potentially being involved in the death of father into a box, refusing to deal with the notion when emotions still ran so hot. Mostly, however, he simply could not bring himself to consider it - not without even a shred of evidence to the contrary.

" ...I don't know, Chlo. I can see things the rest of you cannot, but I can't see the future - I have faith our siblings will remain peaceful as father's successor is decided, but I've long since learned not to put my gold into the pot on faith alone. "

Chloelle's lips pressed together in a thin line as she looked forward, her pointed ears twitching at Flynn's response. She nodded in silent agreement, partially lost in her own thoughts. She had not considered Flynn's power when it came to the King's death. It was not a power she looked down upon so much, nor did she consider him lesser for it. It just had not occurred to her until now just how much insight he had at this time.

An image sprang unbidden to her mind. When she had fallen to her knees beside the body of their father, and when Flynn had dropped down beside her to offer comfort - though surely he must have felt pain and anguish as well. Something from that memory occurred to her as strange, and she still found it strange. She looked up at him, her brow still wrinkled in a frown.

"Brother, earlier....You said something. It was like you were caught offguard about something that happened,"
she finally said.
"You said "What?". What was it that you saw that no-one else did?"

Onward to the Scroll

They sped through the hall at a brisk pace.

"Hold!"
a voice shouted, interrupting Chloelle's question. It was Roland. Everyone stopped and looked back at the prince, who had come sprinting after them.
"If you are going to read the scroll, I intend to be there,"
he insisted.

Leon didn't even bother to respond. With a sigh he turned around and resumed his stride, gesturing for the others to follow, and clearly expecting them to do so. Roland evidently seemed to think that included him, and Leon did not protest.

Soon they reached the entrance to what appeared to be the vault - a small wooden door, easily mistaken for a closet. It didn't seem right, but then again, none of the Scions present had ever been aware of its location or appearance before now.
"Dalhover, stand guard outside,"
Leon ordered.

Then he opened the door and stepped inside. And it did seem to be a closet - a rather spacious one, and empty, but it seemed like closet nonetheless. Leon began feeling at the bricks, until he found one that was loose and pushed it in. Slowly, one of the walls slid away, to view an even larger chamber behind it. Leon beckoned for the three scions to follow him inside.

The chamber was empty, save for a wide double steel door, with two locking mechanisms on either side, as well as two handles in the center. The door was just wide enough that the handles were out of reach of the keyholes.

"Three people are needed to open it,"
Leon explained. He handed the King's key to Flynn - there was a small bloodstain on it still. A second key - his own - he handed to Chloelle.
"You two will unlock it. You must keep the key turned, else the lock will reset back into place. Roland, you will open it."
Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.

Dalhover stopped then turned his head when someone called--it was Roland, who thusly joined the run with Chloelle, Flynn, Leon and Dalhover towards the scroll.

“Yes, lord,” Dalhover agreed to Leon’s instruction, standing by the entrance. Back straight, heart pumping fast, the old knight frequently looked down the hallways. Damn portal things better not suddenly appear... How can I even avoid the dangers that fly from them!?

While Dalhover’s cautious thoughts swirled, the Scions presumably began performing whatever unlocking actions were necessary...

Flynn had barely enough time to consider his sister's question before they were interrupted by Roland's arrival, an almost collective exasperation falling over the group as they just... let him come along. Getting into an argument about something so petty would serve none of them.

His train of thought was momentarily derailed thanks to that, the prince taking a few extra moments to deliberate what he would say - only for them to arrive at their destination. He spared Chloelle a glance. " After we handle this. Ria asked to know as well, it would be easier to not explain it individually, " He told her, stepping into the closet without any visible surprise at where they were. Not that he'd known the exact location of the vault, but he'd long since assumed it was hidden somewhere he'd been before - they had grown up in the castle, after all.

As he was handed the key Flynn's thumb brushed over the faint stickiness of the bloodstain, his gaze drifting down to where the red came off on his skin. He was quiet as he stepped towards the lock on the left side of the door, using but a trickle of his magic to clean the blood from both thumb and key as he went to lift it to the keyhole - the general spell peeling away the blood and disintegrating it. He looked across at Chloelle as he slotted in the key and turned it.

Chloelle's expression froze as Roland's voice rang out behind her. She managed to keep her face neutral as she turned to look at him, feeling a stab of annoyance as he invited himself along. She did not bother even greeting him at this point, and turned back to Flynn.

"Alright, I will hold you to that,"
she answered quietly. She blinked at the sight of the closet door - had Uncle Leon lost his mind? She refrained from commenting further, waiting for him to claim it as a joke. She glanced around the inside of the closet, still none the wiser...Up until Leon did something to the wall. In surprise, she watched the wall slowly slide back with a rumble to reveal the room and large doors beyond.

The elven Princess accepted the key with some level of uncertainty, before nodding.
"Let's hope the Scroll is still inside..."
She mumbled, approaching one of the keyholes. Carefully inserting it, she looked back towards Flynn, her expression betraying her uncertainty and worry as she turned the key in time with him.

Eva nodded at Rie and took the hand offered by Gallus.
"I’m fine,"
she said, wiping tears from her face.
"Just a little shaken, that’s all."

One of the servants brought a chair over, and she rested her hand on its back to steady herself. She could feel the eyes on her. What a disgraceful sight she must be. A scion, back from the dead, and apparently left there all her sense of composure. How pathetic.

She frowned.
"Sorry to have caused such a scene,"
she said to her siblings.
"I’ll be good now."
