Once again, everything seemed to calm. Roland’s rage appeared to be quelled, at least for the moment, and the discussion once again turned to what had actually happened. Their own conclusions were essentially the only answers the Ariadne had been able to think of in the brief moments before she had stepped towards Reyner, and she agreed with Leon that the implications were most certainly not something she liked. They knew next to nothing about portal magic itself, and without knowing what it actually required to summon it, there wasn’t any way they could even rule out those in attendance.
It wasn’t a secret that generic magic could be used alongside their specialty…so what if a portal of that size was, in practice, generic?
Those thoughts were for later, though. Reyner had made no further actions, but she had not expected it without someone else moving in. In truth, she would have almost preferred someone else had so that
they
could have been the one she spoke to, for she did not believe Reyner was in any way wrong for his declaration. The resolve in his gaze was enough to make her confident he would not do anything further without provocation, and for her, that was more than enough.
Meeting his gaze for a moment, she didn’t say anything more, but rather gave him a single nod before stepping back. There was no need to speak; his words were understood and there was nothing for her to add.
Turning back to the rest of her siblings, she had not been close enough to hear Flynn’s comment, and so said nothing about it even as her own thoughts turned to the same vein. Dalhover’s comment only lent itself to the paranoia that was beginning to build up inside. If something had happened to the scroll, then there would be no succession. And without that...well, there was no way to tell, and that what was so frightening.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
