"Challenge ground?"

"Right. Scribe!" he ordered to an elf by his side.

The young elf opened a scroll and read, "By decree of King Aardi, no outsider may come into the possession of elf crystal unless they have proven themselves to the King."

Aardi nodded. "I was notified by my friend Zharoun (The Sage of Trollweiss) that you were coming, and I had time to plan a task for each of you. This task will confirm whether or not you are worthy to carry the dragon egg."

Kaisen was about to argue, but Saren stopped him. "We will pass your tests," Saren said with resignation.

"Good. Now, follow me."

Aardi led them to a dark area of the forest, where the canopy blocked out the sun. The Elf King then turned to Kalda. "You, dwarf, will be first." Kalda ignored the tone of his voice when he said dwarf.
Aardi gestured to the dense forest. "This will be your test. As you are a guide to the humans, you must know your way around. Your task is to enter this area, find the silver urn that rests on a stone pedestal, and come back here, alive, with the urn in tow."
Kalda nodded. The task was straightforward. "Now," Aardi continued, "your task begins...now."

----Chapter Twelve: The Traitor----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kalda vanished into the foliage, and Aardi turned to the others. "This may take a while," he said casually. "Go into the village. I will alert you when and if she returns."
"We can't just leave!" Kaisen objected.
"You can, and you will. Go!"
Kaisen and Saren left the meadow, but Saren stayed behind. "I'll wait here. Go ahead, see what you need to see."
"But what about you?"
"I'll be fine. Go see the city. I'm sure you'll find something interesting."

Kaisen followed Saren's suggestion and went into the village of Lletya. The streets were busy with elves going about their daily business. Kaisen saw the crystalline pools of water and gardens of vibrant flowers. He saw the bazaars of elven commerce, and he saw a beautiful fountain in the center of the city.
Kaisen's gaze was attracted to the statue above the fountain. The statue was of an elf man wearing a crown. He was standing over another elf, who was lying dead on the ground.
Underneath the statue was an inscription, which read:

Kaisen stared, transfixed, at the statue. Then, an elf came up behind him. "You are interested?" he asked.
"Yes," Kaisen responded. "Who is it?"
The elf dropped his gaze slightly. "It is our previous King, King Reyaad, the father of King Aardi."
"And who is the other elf?"
The elf looked ashamed for some reason. "That is Aisarn. He is the disgrace of the elven race. Decades ago, he aided the Zamorakans. He was a traitor to the elves, and his bloodline lives in disgrace even today."
"How did he aid the Zamorakans?"
The elf grimaced as he replied, "He left Isafdar and went to the Wilderness, where the armies of Zamorak were regrouping. He helped to save the life of a Zamorakan."
"Is that so bad?"
"To us, it is. Though the life-saving may have been noble, the one he saved was an important Zamorakan."
"Who did he save?"
"It was a young boy named Agaben, who would, of course, one day grow up to be the Dark Lord we know today."
"You mean that Agaben would have died if it wasn't for Aisarn?"
"Yes." The elf looked ready to leave. "I must go."
"Wait! What is your name?"
The elf did not stop walking away, but he said over his shoulder, "I am Zorrath." Then, he vanished into the crowd of elves.
