Our suspicions were correct when the saber cut off Metras' head first. then Metras' four year old sister." Tom was speaking rather fast at this point.

"At that point, the villagers fought back finally. We retreated to our homes, brought out our illegal weapons and fought the scum back into retreating, we fortified the town, and hunkered down. Within an hour, the entire fort garrison was upon us. I ordered you to run, and I fought as I ran. I ran off to the spot you liked, and fought them off at the spot you liked. It was a steep hill, and I thought they would not pursue, which they didn't, but I fell, took a tumble, tore up my face on rocks, and grass, and ended up at the bottom of the hill.

"By all rights I should be dead. If it was not for Lithia, I would be. She knew enough healing magic to get me down the hill, and she let me kneel on her to the hideout, after which I collapsed. When It donned on me that you were lost, I thought you were actually at the fort and that you were dead, when I asked them to find you, I was expecting to find your body, and I was not expecting you to be at Castle Gern, alive." Tom finally stopped recounting his story, he was tearing up, and he looked stressed from recounting the events. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Tom assured Annie. "Had you stayed and fought, you'd have died, as well. I asked Vyras to send a scouting group back up to Tuba to check, but both Lensa, and Vyras were busy preparing for the siege, so I don't know yet, and judging by the state of my leg, likely won't be able to make my way up to the village for quite some time." Annie's hug warmed Tom's heart, and since he was sitting down, was able to hug her back.

" So now that you are here, my daughter, what do you plan to do? Will you take up Metras' mantle, just as that teenage boy did, and fight?" Tom asked. There was a hint of anxiety on his face as he asked the question. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Tom felt a wave of dismay rush over him. He did not want to lose his daughter again. He also felt pride in the young woman that Annie was becoming.

"Then take Vyras' lessons to heart. Be strong and true in your ideals which were my ideals, and those of your grandfather's: Respect your elders; aid the weak, and they may aid you back, treat others with respect, and they will follow you no matter where you go. Fight the battles of the helpless, So that they may not need to. You may not know it yet, but you always had a certain charm. You were the most popular girl in the village." Tom's eyes began tearing up with pride.

A hollow knock at the door let Tomas know that someone was at the door. "Checking up on our new neighbors." It was a voice that Annie did not know, the voice sounded old, but he was neither Vyras nor Kunigas, in fact the voice was female.

Tom smiled "Lensa." Tom grabbed his crutches, got off his chair, and walked up to the door. He put his hand on the brass nob and turned it, then pulled the door open. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Tom opened the door. Outside was a woman of a frightening demeanor, not just in size, but in appearance. She had a garish scar over her right eye, which zig-zagged down to her chin in one place, and six bite marks on the nape of her neck. She was blonde, and had a bon-bon hairstyle at the back of her head. Her skin was white and her eyes were green. She wore a black robe. she wore leather shoes. On her back was her large silver axe, which she kept in a leather axe sheath. Annie would be afraid of her right away, had she not spoken to her in a low, sweet voice.

"My, My. How're you doing, sweetie? Tom, have you seen the new additions to the sanctuary?" She asked him. Tom shook his head. "Vyras would know, I'm not sure where he is."

"Pity, well Since you got your daughter back, I'm assuming this is her; I might as well introduce myself. I am Lensa. "The Thrice-Bitten," They call me. What is your name?" She asked Annie. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Lensa smiled at Annie. Annie seemed to be a promising, able bodied recruit. She had to hand it to the old man, he delivered results, despite her apprehension at sending an 89 year old man, who by all rights, should have retired from the front decades ago. He was much better off as a teacher, in Lensa's opinion. Good thing he was doing so now.

Tom was over by a clay oven. For days he'd been preparing a pastry. "Don't mind me, Lensa, Just finishing the cherry pyragas for Vyras' retirement party." (Pyragas were basically the Sudovian equivalent of pies.) The aroma also, perhaps made Annie hungry. Lensa took a deep breath in her nose, " It smells divine! Can't have a retirement party without pyragas!" Lensa said enthusiastically. Tom nodded.

" Vyras, Brimblemir, and I will lay all the information in bits and pieces. For the moment, take a rest, maybe visit the mess hall? I hear Brandr has taken over the duties of the cook. Where to even begin? I've been leading this faction of resistance for nearly 20 years, during that time I managed to get bitten by Lexius three times, in a single encounter. You can see the scar marks on my neck from the battle. I barely escaped with my life. Lexius hates mages, and Vyras and I are the reason why. We are the only ones who have faced off against him and lived. Perhaps I will tell you the whole story later. I must go find Vyras. It was nice to meet you." She finished, "Oh, and Tom."

Tom gazed at her. "I'm giving the go ahead to assualt the fort near Tuba for survivors. It will mean a lengthy siege, but presently we don't have much in the way of siege equipment. So I have a plan for how we can get it done. We can discuss it later." Tom was excited, Perhaps Annie was too.

You got a side-quest objective. Though you can't do anything with it yet. Perhaps check with Lensa again after Vyras, and Brimblemir train you properly in resistance tactics. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

After that, Lensa left the room and closed the door.

Tom was both worried, and excited. "Well this is exciting. Though knowing Lensa there's a reason she gave the go-ahead for the siege. I'm going to assume it is to test you. I won't be able to leave the cathedral for many months, and you are the only other known survivor of the village, so you know the area, and where the fort is. Far as I'm concerned, she's likely going to put you on that commander's team as an asset. I Will let you know of anything else I find out. Get some rest, sweetheart. You've been up all night," Tom told Annie. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!
