Annie:

Finally off the leash of the old man, Zurga led Annie up the left staircase to the second terrace. Three doors to the right was the infirmary. Zurga knocked. No answer. “Hmmm,” Zurga thought out loud. “He spends a lot of his time in the chapel, praying, I think he is praying for your safety. Let’s try there.” Zurga led Annie back down the left staircase and down to the chapel door. Zurga knocked. “Always knock at the chapel door, by the way. Kunigas gets ANGRY, If we interrupt him during his religious guidance sessions. Zurga, removed her helmet. She was pretty for an orc. With green eyes, grey skin, and long brown hair which she made slightly curly slightly above the temple of her head. She made the back of her head into a ponytail.

Zurga showed showed Annie the scar on her left temple.

“Kunigas threw a weighty silver cross at me after I accidentally did that, back when I first joined. Any human who got hit with it would be in the infirmary for the next week if Kunigas did that to them. Whatever Kunigas tells you to do when it comes to his chapel, you do it.”

Zurga knocked on the chapel door. Annie could hear the clunking of wood on the limestone floor. It was not a heavy sound, like that of a wooden beam. It was a light clunk on the floor. A few seconds passed before the door opened. It was someone Annie knew and loved. The man, who was pale in the face, and was using wooden crutches to get around had the color in his face return. A wry smile appeared over his face, before it turned to excitement, and finally into tears.

“Annie! I can’t believe they returned you to me!” He exclaimed before he started sobbing. He looked at Zurga and tried to presumably say thank you but no words came out. Zurga acknowledged his attempt at gratitude, with modesty and decency. “Thank the old man, I was under his orders. “So Master Vyras has returned,” He asked. Zurga nodded “ I’ll have to see him as soon as possible, but first, let me have some alone time with my daughter. “Of course, Tom.” Zurga said. After which, she closed the door and left Annie alone with the crippled warrior.

Tomas—Tom for short— was not what Annie was remembered. His tumbling down the hill left him… beautiful, with nasty scars all over his face. He had short blonde hair, dark blue eyes, and a straight nose, and a white skin texture. Previously just over six feet tall, Tom’s crutches made him stand slightly shorter at around 5 foot 9. He wore a white tunic, and brown trousers which showed off a nasty scar running down his knee, past his shin, and down to a point slightly above his feet. His scars all over the front and back of the arms, biceps, and triceps were the same as they had always been during their time in the village of Tuba.

His shirt concealed most of the scars around his shoulder, including the lightning burn, which arched around his left shoulder blade. “ I suppose we have a lot to catch up on. How about we go up to my quarters and talk. They aren’t far, and Lensa moved them down to the first terrace for my safety.” Tom maneuvered his way to the door. “Care to open the door for your ol’ pops?” Tom asked.

Vyras:

Vyras, fresh off duty made his way down to the tunnel excavations. As he walked past the other resistance members and to the workshop area just outside the newest set of tunnel excavations, despite his business with his lover, Kunigas, he needed to make sure his dagger could be repaired just in case. As he walked by the other members of the resistance, he couldn’t help but recognize just how many of them were named “Metras.” It was a popular name. There was Metras the cook, killed in action apparently with his duties being passed off to Brandr; Metras the blacksmith; Metras the fletcher; Metras the resistance member responsible for organizing the tunnel work. Metras the gardener, and Metras the bard. Vyras was heading down to see Metras the blacksmith.

Vilsind took a hell of a battering during the fight in the castle and back. Pure silver was most effective against vampires, but it was not the most durable material out there. Vyras felt that the battle with the wolves was the last straw for the weapon, any more damage to the blade, and it was likely to snap. If it were to snap, it would be prohibitively expensive to reforge, since it was custom made, and had a nasty enchantment.

The dagger did not leave ordinary wounds, no matter where Vyras stabbed a vampiric fiend, it was often a fatal blow. Going down small ramp to the tunnel excavation site, Vyras saw the middle-aged blacksmith at his forge hammering away at a spiked silver mace that was still hot, the blacksmith was super busy. He could not stop hammering even for a second, or he would have to re-heat the weapon. Recognizing this, Vyras approached the shop’s assistant, who was a mere kid of around 12-- Metras’ son, and apprentice, Soris--

Soris was an earnest lad with short black hair, green eyes, white skin, a long-sleeved brown leather apron tailored to his size, and black leather, fire-resistant enchanted pants. “Welcome back, sir” the kid said in a friendly tone. Vyras smiled at the kid. It was a nice change of pace to be treated respectfully, instead of being denigrated as an “old man” by that feisty, disturbed kid, Subaki.

Soris was beginning his first day as Metras’ apprentice, but he came from a blacksmithing family and was already quite knowledgeable already on many aspects of smithing. “Hi, Soris, I need my dagger repaired, ” Vyras said. The hammering stopped, and the mace, still hot at the spiked tips of the weapon, was dropped in the forge’s water receptacle. A loud sizzling noise let the old man know that Metras was taking a small break to acknowledge the old man.

“Ah, Colonel. I can help with whatever you need-- or rather, Soris can-- with my instruction. Just give it to him, and I will have him write down what you need done with it. Metras was bald but had a black goatee, green eyes, and He wore a traditional smithing apron. It was a brown leather apron over a long-sleeved black leather robe the sleeves had bubble marks. The only place that was exposed was his biceps, which on his left bicep was a tattoo reading, Gabija-- Gabija was the name of his daughter. He wore leather boots. Understandably, the blacksmith was drenched in sweat.

Soris went to a disheveled desk with papers scattered all over it and sat down with a paper and inkwell on a chair. Vyras walked up and handed him the dagger. Soris took out the blade from the sheath looked closely at the slightly curved blade. There was a crease in the metal and the blade was dull. “Hmmm the blade took quite a beating during your mission. How many vampires did you kill? A lot I hope. Did they suffer?” Soris asked sadistically.

Vyras shook his head. It was disheatening to see a child take on the monstrous attitudes of some of the resistance fighters themselves.

“Soris, I don’t think vampires can feel pain," Vyras informed him. "not as many as you’d think with the dagger. It was mostly used on wolves.” Soris nodded. “It is quite dull. It needs a good sharpening, and it perhaps needs reinforcing. Father says the first thing I need to learn as his apprentice is how to handle silversmithing.” Vyras nodded, “Astute advice young man. It would be nice to repair, and reinforce…” Vyras admitted. The old man thought for a moment before nodding in acceptance

“20 vampire fangs,” Soris told him matter-of-factly, like a businessman. “Vyras reached into his fang-purse and pulled out 20 intact fangs from it.” He dropped them into Soris’ hand. “Excellent. I suppose father will let me begin once he is ready to instruct. Did you find her, Colonel?

Vyras shook his head. “Perhaps she escaped with another group. I’m too old for this work, Metras, but just because I’m retiring doesn’t mean we will give up looking for her.” Soris had a hopeful look, but Metras looked like he was about to cry. It was the grief of a parent who lost a child. A reaction that was all too common in this fucked up land.

Annie followed Zurga to find her father as she listened to him talking. She nodded to respond unable to talk because she was in shock that she was going to see her father again. They walked into the chapel and saw her father there. Her eyes teared up as she saw him. She listened to what Zurga and her father was talking about but didn’t understand what was going on. That’s when Zurga left them alone.

She was in shock of seeing him alive. She ran up to him and gave him a huge hug. She said as she was feeling many emotions at once,”Father, I can’t believe you are here. How did you survive the attack on our village? Did anyone else survived the attack? How did you get here?” She watched him going to the door and told her let’s go to his quarters and talk. She replied with a smile,”Yes we do. Let’s go.” She opened the door for her father. She followed him to his quarters. She still had many questions to ask.

Automatons, repairs, and vampiric teeth were of no interest to either Erik or Sakura. The samurai sat somewhere in the workshop to continue sharpening her masakari, whilst Erik stood elsewhere to avoid Sakura and to feel pleased that Annie reunited with her father.

There's nothing more important than one's kindred. Upon such thoughts, Erik missed his own brethren. They probably wondered where he was. With enough determination, the warlord might someday regroup with his tribe.

If Tom weren't using crutches to prop himself upright, He'd hug Annie back, but even six months since severely tearing his ACL, he was not used to crutches, or being a permanent cripple. He unfortunately could not hug his own daughter. Tears dripped down his face, but he also smiled. The crutches scuffed on the ground as he led Annie to his room. He opened the wooden door.

The room was modest, though the bed did not look comfortable at all. Above the bed, hanging over the limestone wall, was a circular display plate that held his sword by two leather strips. There was also a circular wooden table which he sat down at. There was a second wooden chair at the table.

"Sit, Annie, we have a lot to discuss." Tom told her."

Annie was happy to able to hug her father even though he couldn’t hug her back because of those crutches. She was just happy be in his presents as her father lead her to his room. She was shocked he was alive.

As she walked into his room and shocked what she saw. She recognized the sword that was on the wall. She still didn’t understand what happened after she escaped the battle at the village where they came from before she was captured by the vampires. She said in an emotional voice,”Ok. I am ready to know what happened.” She sat down on the second wooden chair at the table and waited for her father to speak.

Tom spoke honestly, "Tuba is a village of no significant tactical value, most of us supported the resistance, but were too afraid of the vampires in the nearby fort even to consider resisting. You know this." Tom began.

"As long as we left them alone, they would be friendly towards us. I'm not sure what was going on inside his home, but that stupid teenage boy, Metras decided that he would attempt to live up to his namesake, and attempted to kidnap a vampire who was in the village looking for certain books." Tom admitted.

"You were out in the forest when this was going on, you always liked the view from a certain rock that gave a good view of Vilnias. In the ensuing struggle in the bookshop, the vampire was fatally stabbed in the neck." While you were gone, we had to get rid of the vampire's body. Tom continued.

"I don't know what was going on in Metras' home, but I would not be surprised if he read that tale about Prince Metras and his crusade against the vampires, or was told about it. That tale is forbidden to possess in book form, and illegal to recount according to Clan Gern law. You did not know it yet, but the entire town was in danger, and we just omitted it from everyone from our wives, from our children, the town men hacked the body apart and tossed it into the nearby river.

He continued "A day later, a vampire contingent came from the fort to investigate a disappearance. We lied out of our teeth about his death, they left to investigate. That is how this began. We were so determined to protect everyone from the truth, but I think that we did everyone in town a disservice. Somewhere along the line, the head must have washed up. Another contingent came with the severed head in hand and ordered us to tell them who the killer was. You were inside the home, and I told you to get your bow and arrows ready, as well as your spells. Just in case. It did not take long for Metras to be identified as the killer."
