Elyssa stared at the wolf. Its muzzle was pulled back in a snarl. Saliva dripped from its teeth and dropped onto the ground. She saw something in the animal that had her feeling pity for it. She did not want to kill this beautiful creature.
"I don't want to hurt you."
The wolf snarled in response to her words, seemingly telling her that it indeed wanted to hurt her. Elyssa prepped her bow, pulling the arrow taut.
"Just go back into the woods and we will both survive this."
The wolf stepped forward, growling deeper at the weapon being raised.
" Well, do you expect me to not defend myself?"
Elyssa chuckled. She realized how odd it must look, talking to a wolf.
The wolf snarled again and began to run towards Elyssa. As it got close it jumped and swiped its paw out, just barely missing her as she stepped to the side, keeping her bow trained on him the entire way. It landed and skid through the dirt, turning its body back to facing Elyssa.
"I don't want to kill you. I know you are just hungry. I'm not very tasty."
She glanced down at herself.
"I'm lean. Not very meaty."
The wolf once again began to run towards Elyssa, swipping its paws out again and snapping its teeth towards her. She failed to move out of the way in time and It's claws caught her face and pulled, tearing into her flesh. She felt the warm blood come to the surface and began to slowly creep down her cheek.
"Well, I'm sure that will scar. Maybe I won't heal this one. Leave it as a battle scar for a worthy foe."
This dance went on and on. Elyssa never once pulled her arrow on the wolf, and the wolf just kept trying to hurt her. Aside from the mark on her face, he caught her on her left bicep, tearing the sleeve of the shirt she wore, and on her right thigh, tearing through her breeches. After a while, the wolf was clearly worn out.
