Ellyssa Sahrawian

Attached to the squad of the notoriously taciturn Alexandre’ battalion was a pale-skinned, red-headed elf. Alexandre was quite adamant in his orders. Given her talent in healing (albeit small wounds), she was to be battalion medic. If she had voiced her desire to fight, Alexandre, well-known for his iron will to see things through his way, and his way alone, he would have called her “as short-sighted as his teacher.” A back-handed comment both to her, and the old man who took him in and tutored him in the art of war. His reputation for stubbornness was well-known.

Rather than argue with the battlemage, Elyssa stayed back waiting for people to be injured. Rustling in the trees, and bushes told Elyssa that the siege was impacting the sleep of the local wildlife. These thoughts mattered to Elyssa as an elf; and she was old enough to remember some of the basic customs elves held dear. Namely: "Give back to the earth what you have taken in equal measure."

During any sort of war, humans tend to forget that it is not just sapient creatures who suffer from war’s effects. Animal migration routes become disturbed, feeding grounds are destroyed, breeding grounds are transformed to smoldering ruin, nests both ground-bound and above the tree line were toppled or infringed upon. Animals, both young and old are maimed and killed in as equal of a manner as humans. To a human, such thoughts are of minor concern, but an Elf learns from young age: “Nature is not as forgiving of its destruction, as mortals think,” But even the humans shouldn’t be blamed for what happened to Sudovia, that blame rests upon the vampires of Clan Gern alone.

At the moment, however, such thoughts needed to be shelved. Ahead of her was the infamous Balta Mirta and her massive dragon, Asmonthiid. Alexandre, clad in silver-lined iron plate armor, and weilding a mage staff and a longsword made of consecrated silver, was battling her. Asmonthiid had turned many of her companions into human-sicles. Mouths agape in terror, pain, anger, sadness, resignation. No amount of healing magic could save them from the frosty agony of Asmonthiid’s furious breath.

With so many of her companions dead, would Elyssa dare interrupt Balta’s contest with Alexandre? He had ordered her to stay behind and help the wounded, but the wounds that Asmonthiid were inflicting were too much for her to heal. Nobody in her battalion thought they’d be the one’s facing Balta, or they’d have brought another healer. Or perhaps there weren’t any more to spare. Elyssa could see it in Balta’s bloodthirsty crimson eyes: She was toying with Alexandre, who had shot firebolts from his staff at her. There was no way he could win.

Asmonthiid dodged, weaved his way back around, and Balta would use the momentum of Asmonthiid’s movement to force Alexandre to his knees with a swing of her scythe. This was not a battle he could win. Elyssa, on the other hand had a clear shot at Balta. Definitely not good enough for an outright kill, but enough so that Balta would either focus on her, or if Elyssa was lucky, flee altogether. Perhaps an illusion could disorient her?

Decisions, decisions.

Riniya:

You have three choices as far as I can tell (technically four, but helping the wounded resistance fighters is a moot point.

1.You can heal Alexandre’s wounds, which are minor, but painful

2. You have a clear shot at Balta, perhaps you could get her attention. A single shot will not kill her though. I will be controlling Balta, so you canget one hit on her, after which, no auto-hitting on her.

3) Disorienting her with illusions would be helpful. Which I will reflect in my post with her if you go that route.

Elyssa kept her eyes on the battle raging in front of her. She knew that Alexandre wouldn't last much longer if this kept up. She shifted from foot to foot as she determined what she was going to do. She sighed and hid behind one of the frozen statues of her fellow fighters. It felt disrespectful but for what she was planning she needed to stay out of sight. She didn't think that Alexandre would be happy to learn she disobeyed his orders.

Elyssa peeked around the statue to observe Alexandre. She noticed all the tiny details, the cuts and scrapes on his face. She held her hand up towards him, palm flat facing him. Soft words whispered out to aid in the strength of her spell.

Slowly, Alexandre started to blur and shake, but he wouldn't feel a thing. Out from the blur came three copies that looked identical to the original. They all moved in unison, attacking and defending when the real one did, the only difference, their attacks did no damage. Elyssa kept her palm towards him and waited, keeping her spell alive to see if it would be enough to throw off Balta.
There isn't one.

Annie:

With the prisoners -- both those able to fight, and those who weren’t-- back on the roof, the escape was underway. Vyras took the time to catch his breath, he was physically, and mentally exhausted. As he led the group to the hole in the wall he created earlier, He called out to Annie, and Lithia. Lithia was playing with her blonde pigtails when Vyra called out for her. Like a child, she skipped all the way to Vyras from the hole in the roof. Annie was already by Vyras’ side. It took nearly 30 seconds for Lithia to arrive. When she did,she asked Vyras,” What’s wrong boss?” Vyras got straight to the point.

“I need you two to scout ahead and make sure the tower is clear of undead, It would be a disservice to go in blind and get the prisoners swarmed by vampires and undead soldiers alike. I also want Haegar to go with you.” Vyras informed them. Haegar nodded and stepped forward, “come on ladies, we have a lot of work to do.”

Annie

Vyras needs you and Lithia to do some scouting. Haegar is your support. Part of scouting is to make sure that all your rears are covered. As you enter the hole in the wall, you will come across a spiral staircase leading to the top of the tower. If I were a scout, I’d start by going to the top of the tower. This is the same tower that Vyras and his squad parachuted down earlier. There is no such thing as “It’s probably clear up top,” anything could have happened.

This is not a “clear the tower” mission, but if you come across any vampires or undead, be prepared for a fight.

Erik and Sakura:

Zurga had told Vyras of the conflict between Erik and Sakura earlier, before the escape from the dungeon. With both of them behind him, Vyras turned around to give them a bit of advice. With apprehension and stress in his wrinkly eyes, he told them. “I heard of the conflict you two have with each other, but now is not the time. In times like these, bonds of trust don’t always matter, but the same thing can be said of bonds of hate and enmity. We’re a family whether you want to be or not. If you don’t want to cause your family grief, then live, and fight. Now for what I want you two to do, With so many enemies high in the air, I want you to keep an eye in the sky. If any undead happen to fly down, I’ll be able to hijack the necromantic link that binds them to whomever is controlling them. Above all else, protect the prisoners. Antonius, Zurga, and I have your back.

Azi:

Keep the prisoners protected while Annie, Lithia and Haegar scout ahead. You can control Antonius, and Zurga, Antonius is a crossbowman. His silver bolts hit very hard. Zurga, on the other hand is a berserker, armed with a two handed silver hammer.

As you wait, undead, vampires, and gargoyles will come down to attack the prisoners. With undead, a shot to the head from Antonius’ crossbow will kill them. Gargoyles need to be smashed with Zurga’s hammer. You can autokill as many monsters as you need.

Sakura and Erik will be the last line of defense for the prisoners, if a monster makes it past Zurga and Antonius (which there will be, as I will be controlling a few of them) you can autokill them with Sakura or Erik. None of the monsters that make it past Zurga and Antonius will be gargoyles, as Zurga needs to crush them with her hammer.

Vyras will occasionally hack the necromantic link of undead soldiers, you may end up with enemies who suddenly lose interest in the prisoners, and start attacking fellow undead.

“Bölvuð sé ætt þín!” Erik was not happy to see Sakura. Masakari in her right hand, she casually clapped her left against its side.

“Jikan o muda ni shi sugita.” Sakura appeared disinterested. She had a new enemy to fight, after all.

Once Vyras finished his words, Erik huffed. “She has brought a curse that will doom us all. We fight as brothers and sisters to protect the prisoners now, but after this, I will go forth to assemble warbands. We will drive out all evil in one swoop, I can feel that soon will be the time.”

Once the scouts had gone ahead, Sakura and Erik stayed back as instructed. Sakura did not care much for caution, though Erik occasionally checked up above. It was not long until gargoyles swooped whilst undead approached.

Crossbow aimed, Antonius managed to shoot an incoming gargoyle in the head. It landed lifelessly.

A gargoyle dove upon Zurga and she subsequently knelt from impact but did not falter. The gargoyle clawed and snapped its jaws, Zurga drove her shaft sideways into its mouth and busted a few teeth. It grabbed her axe, leaned against her, and growled. She pulled and rolled backwards, drove both feet upwards into the beast and flipped it over herself. She spun around on her knees and swung her war hammer across the gargoyle’s jaw--it broke off. Orc and gargoyle charged as Erik, Sakura and Antonius faced the undead around, and then...

Amidst the fighting, space cleared around Erik for the moment. He raised his shield as a gargoyle swooped upon him. Being a big man, he withstood the impact but staggered as the beast clawed around the rim of his shield, but his armour resisted the bestial attacks. He chopped his sword into his own shield rim to cut off a few claws that curled around. He drove his shield into the gargoyle’s body and pushed it over. He drove his blade through the gargoyle’s mouth as it picked itself up. Pinned to the ground, Zurga was able to smash the beast’s head asunder.

Sakura rotated as she swung her masakari lowly in a wide arc one-handed. With one rotation, her axe drove across several legs of a few undead. Sakura gripped her axe at either end of the shaft and dragged the blade across the fallen undead necks, weight alone resulted in their decapitation.

Amidst the melee with foes, a gargoyle charged Sakura and flailed its claws furiously. She received a few scrapes where her spaulders did not cover. She drove her axe upwards from below and struck the beast’s chin, staggered it. She swung her mighty axe downwards but so that the flat struck the gargoyle in the head, the axe’s great weight cracked the head and staggered the gargoyle again. Struck again in this manner, its head broke apart.

Meanwhile, the others fought on based on their abilities to protect the weak. Antonius used his crossbow to pick off clear shots, Zurga smashed, Erik used his shield offensively to shove gargoyles and undead into each other, and Vyras may have utilized some magic by this time.

Sakura, however, charged the approaching mass of undead on her own. As many more undead poured around her, she hurled her masakari sideways into them and beheaded two. Katana unsheathed on the last moment, Sakura went crazy with it and hacked in all directions. Undead limbs and heads flopped about mid-air from the frenzied face-to-face burst, exactly what a katana was designed for.
