Hadrian felt the blade pierce his chest. He didn't dare to look down at it less she chose to slash up into his face, eyes locked on the vampire - acting to swipe his blade at the extended limb a little too late to connect. He felt the blade retreat as well. It... Did not feel like it should have.

It pierced the right side of his chest, missing his organs, but still going deep. He felt the tearing of his flesh and the flow of blood, but the pain was dull, so very dull, as if it were an afterthought compared to the sharp and white hot sensation of being pierced by a metal blade. Briefly his mind had flashed back to that last memory, of the pain he'd felt when that sword had pierced his heart - that pain he could remember, the distinct feeling of being stabbed, of everything draining away, the searing pain that turned icy cold. This... It was more akin to a punch, and not even one that took his breath away.

For her part, Lia would find the initial piercing to be more difficult than it should've been - much like when she slashed his leg earlier in the fight. That same feeling of a thin barrier, and the sharp CLINK of something harder than flesh being struck. Still, it was a clean stab to Hadrian's chest, the blood that stained the weapon making it clear how deep it had gone.

But still the knight stood, near unaffected by this wound. Had he not already been covered in vampire blood his shirt would've stained red from the wound, yet not as much as a chest wound should've.

She had struck deep, but she could have taken better advantage of his slip. Hadrian eyed her, watched the expression on her face - then listening to the words that slipped past her lips. His brow furrowed, then his grim face softened - just a little - as he registered the depth of hatred in her tone.

" ...Did you know her? " He asked, ever so softly. With the bile and fury she spewed with her words he could only believe this vampire had once known the young princess.

Perhaps they had even been close, before whatever cruel fate had awaited the girl. That flash of familiarity returned - one of Lia's handmaidens?

Not even the youngest royal spared. Hadrian had hoped... Just maybe, the children would be spared. Be shown mercy, instead of the same vampiric cruelty he had seen so many times. Undeserved. It was all undeserved. King Mathias had been a good man, his family the finest of Sudovia - slaughtered by evil invaders. His countrymen - enslaved and fed upon by this these stains on the face of the world. Now he stood here, a man who had already died - and perhaps the last to remember Sudovia at its finest.

Perhaps... It was with him, that Sudovia's shining kingdom would die at last.

A voice came to his thoughts again, this time no longer surprising him, declaring it wished him to live. That if he were to fall, the voice would take him away from here. The knight regarded these foreign words in his mind without reaction, his free hand rising to his chest where he ran two fingers over the slice in his shirt - coming away stained with chilled red. The flow had slowed to a stop already. In the back of his mind he still wondered why, but he paid those questions no mind. Not now.

Memories came to him, welcome memories of better times. Of family and friends, pride and duty, peace and joy. He still remembered their faces - his mother, smiling ever so kindly. His father, laughing in his booming tone. Sir Kaleb, his friend and fellow knight - that cocky grin that always annoyed him. King Mathias and his family, always so graceful and elegant - even Lia who hid behind her mother's skirts.

If he were to die, then he would die remembering-

His eyes widened, their gaze unbroken from the vampire stood across from him - locking with her own. Hair black as night, skin pale as any of the rest - but her face, her eyes. So different, and yet he could see it - that look, deep in the depths of hate-filled red. The same eyes of a shy girl who

Erik

“Þú ert dauður!” Erik held his axe sideways and bashed the centre of the shaft into the lead vampire’s helm. The blow staggered him, opened for another strike into the neck. While Zurg made her move, Erik sid his axe out the neck and went to the next Vampire.

Since the other two Vampires did not wear helmets, and all were abnormally oblivious, Erik simply dragged his axe across the next Vampire’s head and split the skull open.

Zurga finished off the third Vampire and that was the end of that.

Strong, tough, and exactly the type of enemy she didn’t want to face. That summed up everything combat-wise about this person, if he were even fit to be called that, that she cared to know. Specifics were becoming more and more apparent as this fight continued, but since their objective wasn’t to actually make this a fatal combat it wasn’t as important as it might be under normal circumstances.

This was actually quite good, as the current conversation was making her hands almost imperceptibly shake with anger and frustration. It had been a while since this subject had been a legitimate conversation, rather than simply a taunt thrown at her for no reason other than to make her angry, and the effect it was having was a lot worse than she had thought it might be. She couldn’t direct her anger at the one who sparked the conversation, not truly, and that made it so much worse. With vampires, she could simply hold it in and hate them, but here she was forced to hate everything else instead, and she was running the great risk of turning it outwards.

That changed, though, when she saw the look in her opponent’s eyes, and knew that he had figured out the riddle that she was barely trying to hide. She did not remember him, but the recognition that she saw told her that he remembered her. The overwhelming sadness when he spoke the name and title she should have died with so many years before, and spoke without malice as everyone else did, very nearly brought her to a complete standstill. Only the knowledge that she couldn’t do that made her move, swinging in uncharacteristically close to lock her two blades with his own so she could give the answer to the recognition that she almost wished had never come.

Her words were remarkably eloquent compared to her normal responses, and it was sadness, not rage, in her voice.

No. Princess Lia died five hundred years ago, in the gladiator pit where a vampire decided it would be fun to make the last princess of Sudovia what she hated more than anything. I am Lia. A vampire.

Sakura:

In the midst of a confusing battle, Sakura had been assaulted by another Breaker-- The co-torturer--. A fierce battle had ensued with it. In the end, her blazing masakari had cleaved its head in two like a ripe melon and blood pooled around its burning carcass. Sakura then turned her attention to the other blue-skinned vampire.

Its skin was charred black, and it was out of breath. Annie’s magic attacks had weakened the vampire to the point where it had dropped its own hammer by its feet, She then raised roots from underneath the castle to envelope the vampire in a dense cocoon of roots from the neck down, which knocked the vampire’s hammer to Sakura’s feet. The vampire stared its crimson eyes in horror at Annie and Vyras. That’s when Sakura joined old man and the half elf

“What to do with you, what to do with you…” Vyras muttered to the Vixnar brute. “You did realize that Lexius views your clan as inferior on account of your blue skin, right?” The Vampire snarled at the old man, and spat at Vyras’ foot; Vyras grabbed his staff in his right hand, and using very little force, clonked the vampire’s skull with his staff. “None of that; be a good vampire. No spitting! Also, no snarling, it’s unsanitary!”

“ If I could move my arms I’d-- We’ll gain his approval eventually, and especially after the siege. So you want me to beg for mercy, old man? Look outside the window. Your siege has abated, and your assault has failed. Did you think that this attack would work? For centuries, you humans have fought us ineffectually, and you thought an assault on Castle Gern itself would work?” The vampire cackled. “Go ahead, kill me. My spirit will come back from the grave, personally, to watch Balta and Lexius boil you alive in the blood of your comrades!

Vyras couldn’t help but be reminded of his relationship with Antonius, him always yearning for his teacher’s approval The Vixnars, and Antonius had similar types of relationships with the ones they were trying to impress. He put that thought out of his mind. He grinned at the vampire. “Gladly!” for he saw someone approaching that he knew, Annoying and flirty, but still alive after being healed from a puncture stabbed to the left kidney by Lithia.

Stumbling down the hallway with a barrel marked with human blood and labeled

“EXECUTIONS” over his back down the vast limestone hallway. “Daddy Vyras! I thought you might enjoy setting this vampire bastard ablaze! Do I score any points, cutie?” Vyras ignored the gay gerontophillic dwarf’s ‘points’ comment. It was simpler just to pretend ignorance. Vyras scratched his head, “Haegar What is that you have over your back?” Vyras asked.

“Oil, sexy, lots of oil. For that vampire bastard over there. Found it in a storage area after Lithia healed me. I do love the smell of burning vampire flesh.” Haegar informed Vyras; and as soon as he reached the vampire, he drenched the vampire in the blackened liquid. which seeped down the rooted tendrils surrounding the Vixnar brute, and also drenched its face. Vyras grinned. The irony would be delicious, but it would be equally as nice to beat it to death with its own weapon.” Haegar tossed Sakura a terracotta arcane fire grenade.

“From the best enchanters down in Balvorrik, Misse.” Haegar told Sakura

Sakura:

You have three options here.

•Brutally burning the vampire alive by throwing the grenade at it.

•The cleaner, but still brutal method of beating the vampire to death with his own hammer.

•Using your masakari to cleave its face in two. Simple, but grizzly.

Sakura

Upon the presence of Vyras and the entrapped, charred Vampire, Sakura slowly motioned her axe and clapped against the flat of its head as if bored. She set her axe down, withdrew a sharpening stone, and sharpened her axe. Stone audibly grinded against steel.

Sakura tossed the terracotta bomb back to Vyras then approached the Vampire, hip sway girly yet muscular body and bald head anything but feminine.

As Sakura approached the entangled Vampire, faint, distorted, exhales softly echoed in random directions of the room. There was also an occasional hoh. They sounded like:
https://youtu.be/vy5BQOowqw0?t=28

“Faithful warrior... Nothing but bare bones and open flesh.” Sakura’s voice remained distorted, raspy, and lightly echoed. She stopped and pointed her axe though kept her chin up. “No longer you must suff erh ...” Her voice was both motherly and ominous. She let her arm loosen and her axe thudded against the floor. The sounds of muffled rattling bones in reverse came for a second. Mist slowly swirled around Sakura as she slowly looked down. “Be not merciful...” The mists parted as Sakura revolved. “ Omae no tamashi wo itadaku !” Sakura’s axe came down. Right before it made contact with the Breaker’s skull, she slightly stifled the axe’s path. She only allowed just enough momentum for the weight of the masakari to sink into the Vampire’s head.

She pulled her axe out one-handed then let the shaft slide down her fingers. The butt struck the floor and she placed her hands atop the blade. “ Reigi ?”

The boulders that had been raining on the fortress had stopped. The tremors had ceased That was not good, Vyras noticed the cessation of loud tremors maybe an hour ago. He was confident that it only meant that the siege crews were being assaulted. He hobbled his way to the window using his staff as his walking stick, and saw- to his horror- that the undead siege crews were dead. “Well, shit!” he muttered.

Those siege crews were crucial to the operation! Vyras knew this was a high risk operation, but with so few resistance members left, Vyras begged Lyra the leader of the resistance to send him and what forces there were left for an assault on the castle to free prisoners and recruit them. Was this the end? Vyras peered out the window hoping for a sign to present itself. Vyras saw lots of dead soldiers, but equally as many dead vampires. And off in the distance, Vyras could see a group of drugal in the forest.

“Drugal?” Vyras asked. He took out his trusty spyglass and peered into it.

That meant that elves may be nearby! Drugal often serve as proxies for elves, but they also do a lot of trading with them, courier work between resistance humans and elf factions, as well a guide work for them. Sadly, the elves ended they took a hammering at Lieudesio Laukas ten years ago and had never fully recovered.

The Massacre of Lieudesio Laukas was a horrifying reminder of vampiric cruelty in that the drow, acting on behalf of their vampire overlords, burned the verdant lands of the valley, and laid waste to elven sacred land, turning it into a slaughter field. Over 10,000 fiercely resistant elves were crucified in the valley. Men, women, and children as young as 10. It was a full annihilation of elf culture and elf population as a whole- At least in the valley.- It was literally genocide, and it knocked the elves out of the war. Until now.
