Sakura:

The samurai made her way into a deeper shaft following the sound of Daptrius’ scuffle with the purebloods. It was as she arrived that she saw Daptrius wounded, but still fighting. Having taken a slash wound across left bicep and one of his quadriceps, Daptrius was losing blood. Erithicus followed Sakura, the Draiyghul had bandages that he brought with him as an afterthought.

Nonetheless, Daptrius gave as good as he got. The vampire was also heavily wounded and
he was bleeding from deep wounds to his right shoulder, both quadriceps, and the right wrist. Despite this, the pureblood fought ferociously. The other Pureblood was too much for Daptrius though. So Daptrius took to the air, to a part of the shaft where the ceiling was higher, and then drank a potion. It was his last one.

Skin and feather re-melded together, nerve endings recoupled. The only thing that remained of the wound on his biceps was a garish scar, which Daptrius would consider another for his "collection." More importantly, it gave Daptrius stamina for his last stand. Then, Daptrius further retreated into the narrowest part of the corridor. A trail of blood indicated where Daptrius was heading. In this corridor, Daptrius stood an inkling of a chance. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Vyras led Annie out of the room.

"One more thing about Umbrium, though, and this is the most important part. It is a freakishly tough metal when forged. It can shatter steel, and dent silver, and the properties that it has as ore don't go away when forged. But enough of that. I am curious about this party. I know it was meant to be a surprise, but you don't get to be former head of the Naktians and not know what is going on in your base of operations. Then after that, guess who's cleaning the latrines? Your insubordination when escaping Castle Gern was minor, but it remains. Don't worry about it. I was going to have you do it alone, but Balvin and his hooligans have earned a punishment as well for making the place stink. I am going to have them clean both latrines with toothbrushes, and you are going to supervise them. Should be fun, no?" Vyras informed Annie. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Vyras listened to Annie and decided that she had a point when she said she healed him. Vyras thought for a moment as they walked from the Umbrium room to the mess hall. Midway to the mess hall. Vyras decided. "Keep this decision to yourself. I will have Farth oversee the punishment of those hooligans. I've only known him a short while, but King Asgrin of Balvorrik assures me that he is even more of a disciplinarian than I. I think he will enjoy whipping those fools into shape." Vyras said with a wink. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Part IV: A "Joyous" Occasion

Brimblemir:

The Clocktower of Vilnius gonged eight times. It was early evening. The noise of the tower could clearly by heard even in the basement of the Cathedral. The party was about to begin. Tables were arranged into two long horizontal lines in the mess hall. The other guests hadn't arrived yet. So it was the perfect time for mischievous Brimblemir to pull a prank. For this prank, he chose the classic pail of water gag. Whoever opened the door to the mess hall would have the bucket fall onto their head. With nobody in sight, he grabbed a chair, and set the bucket of water up carefully…

Annie: Annie and Vyras arrived just in time to the party to witness the fruits of Brimblemir’s prank. For as Tomas opened the door, the bucket plummeted onto his head bottom side up, soaking him in water. “Curses!” shrieked Tomas, as water spilt out of the bucket all over his body and onto the cold limestone floor. As Tomas lifted the bucket off his head, runes on his neck resembling a skull ensnared by a vampiric venus flower’s stem shined brightly on Tomas’ neck. Vyras was alarmed, though he did not know for what reason. Evidently the runes jogged his memory on something. Muttering to himself, Vyras left. To Annie, the poetic vision the goblin wise woman uttered seemed to be coming true. In particular, these three stanzas:



The Tower Strikes Eight

The Fool drops a pail of water
Revealing the profane mark


For what reason did Vyras leave? Who imbued Tomas with those runes? What did all this mean? To Annie, the answers to these questions were unclear. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Annie:

Some time passed after the prank, the uncertainty of Tomas' condition apparently spread among the rest of the resistance fighters, due to Brandr' the, the Svairdian chef's gossip about the incident. Among those in attendance were Lensa, who did not wish to squander the chance to celebrate the retirement of such a celebrated fighter as Vyras. Farth was in attendance as well. Having stumbled into the party half-drunk on the ale, the stout dwarf reeked of the stuff. Still Haegar made sure his cousin didn't down the rest of the ale, knowing his cousin's propensity for drink.

Brimblemir was in attendance as well. As was Tomas, whom Lensa gave a change of clothes, much to Tomas' delight. Antonius, Keldia, Brimblemir's assistant and expert on enchantments, was also in the party. Metras, Vyras's friend was there. Kunigas, and Belar. Hackskull and his servant, Shatterbrains had come up all the way from the goblin city to partake in the festivities. Arturias Gadiminas, and Leonas were also in attendence, but being 13, Brandr forbade them from drinking (Balvin and Eidric were taken off the guest list after their little prank).

Finally. the guest of honor had returned much to the jubilation of the other guests, who were there in his honor, though Vyras himself seemed on edge. He confided to Annie "We have a big problem involving your father." The other guests, gasped at the news.
"What is it, Vyras? Can't this wait until after the party?" Tomas asked. "Afraid not, Tomas, in fact, I am going to have to ask you to isolate yourself from the rest of us until we figure out how to dispel those runes." The others hissed at the suggestion that Tomas isolate himself. "Explain, Vyras," Lensa said invitingly, but with a hefty dose of insistence. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!

Vyras took a deep sigh at Annie's question about her father. “Tomas, you are imbued with runes pertaining to portal magic. Any wizard who knows anything of that magic knows that it is very unstable. For any portal to be opened, it requires life energy.” Vyras said grimly “How much life force?” Lensa asked. “All of it.” Vyras said finally. “What is more is that I recognize that insignia, it is Clan Gern’s. Someone imbued Tomas here with the runes. It can be said that this is a calculated attempt to circumvent the Cathedral’s security measures. No non-pureblood vampire can enter our sanctuary without taking grievous injuries from the holy energies that surround such a building.” Vyras said

“There is one more thing. At Castle Gern, I ran into a vampire claiming to be Patikimas, Metras’ son and betrayer. Anyone who knows anything about that vampire, knows that when he was mortal, he worked portal magics. I saw the supposed vampire teleporting around the battlefield then. So perhaps he is telling the truth.

Lensa became furious with Vyras, reminding Annie once more about the poetic prophecy. “And you let Tomas in?!” She shrieked, “I should have suspected something.” Vyras admitted “Nothing can be done about the imbuement?” Tomas asked fearfully. “Portal magic runes are incredibly difficult to dispel. And I am uncertain of how skillful the mage who casted them was.”

“Well, this won’t do at all,” Lensa growled. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!
