The captain watched with jubilation as his new charges launched into action, attacking rigging, sails and gangplanks in order to urge the ship onwards. He breathed in a deep breath and sighed, and his living eye got a little teary. It seemed the rapturous activity had reminded him of halcyon days, though a call from behind took the seafaring adventurer out of his remembrance.

"Ah, Mercy," he said with a flash of a toothy grin as the apprentice nurse arrived on the deck of the ship. "The fears in my feral heart are becalmed by your presence. Aye, we could hardly set sail without our ship's surgeon!" Patting her on the shoulder reassuringly, Captain Otodus then turned and called for the anchor to be raised.

Turning now to the stranger who introduced himself as Hanxi, the captain tugged thoughtfully at his tar-dipped beard as the man spoke. "Lim, eh? Aye, the name's crossed my path afore, and not in the ways that I find most pleasant. Three years I served in trade war against him, which all went to folly. Our path leads us to the Port of Kismet, where like as not such information can be found, if there is finding to be had."

It was at this stage that Ulysses launched himself at the ocean-bound vessel, and began making his own comments about wishing to join. Otodus stepped up close to the man, black, beaded eye scanning him up and down. "Face of a thousand lives," the captain remarked, seemingly to himself, as he looked unblinkingly into the newly joined crewmate's eyes for signs of weakness.

"Ah, Karib Quay, yes," agreed the captain, who never sailed the seas in that portion of the world, lest he fell victim to the Greenfang and corsair cultists that manned it. "Well Captain Phineas Otodus is the name," he swept off his wide-brimmed hat and gave an overly-exaggerated bow. "And if I can be having yours as well, might be we may claim a kinship to one another."

With that, the captain finally acquiesced to the private summons of Hraldmir. As the crew of the Sea Banshee finally finished preparations and began drifting lazily out of port and into the harbour proper, Captain Otodus and the dwarf spoke in secrecy for the length of an hour or more. Those passing outside the captain's quarters would have heard yelling, and laughing, and whispered discussion. But when the Sea Banshee began to hit the open waters proper, the two emerged from their negotation.

"High seas and high spirits!" Otodus announced, marching across the ship towards the wheel, which he seized, swinging the ship out away from the town, away from land and civilisation, and pointing like a dart into the endless void of blue ahead.

"Tis three days afore we arrive at Traders Bay, where we'll gain some grunt-work," the captain narrated to anyone who happened to be present and listening. "Then north-north-east through the Shattered Isles. We'll take a haul of supplies at Kismet, then it will be the long journey north-west, nautical miles beyond the reckoning. If the wind is with us, it'll be weeks without the sight of land. If she's against us? Well, best not think on that."

The captain laughed aloud, head thrown back and chest pumping up and down with the exertion. It seemed that the closer he was to death, the more he felt he was living.

"Hanzi'll take the night shift," the captain ordered, "as Third Mate. And you," he pointed a finger at Ulysses, "I want up the crow's nest. See if you can squirrel up that mast as easily as you squirreled into that noblewoman's pants."

By the end of the next hour, the coast had slipped away entirely, dipping out over the horizon. Now, only the faithful steering of the captain was pointing them where they needed to go; there was no land in sight to read off of. The open ocean had found them, the dawn autumn sky an uncharacteristic sunshine, and all about them the gulls were calling.

Dawn turned to afternoon. The heat was oppressive, reflected up on all sides of them by the surface of the waves. Those working above deck would feel their skin begin to tan, and then to burn. There was no hiding from the ever-present watch of the midday sun. Rigging had to be pulled, sails had to be altered, and below decks, food and lodgings and supplies had to be prepared, allocated and maintained.

Afternoon faded to early evening. A white seabird took a sudden dive and came skidding across the deck of the ship. Its webbed feet weren't well equipped for walking and it hopped about awkwardly. Its eyes had a haunting black colouration around them, otherwise it was a silvery sheen from head to toe, its metre long wingspan turning each hop into a burst of energy as it moved to the captain. An albatross.

The captain held out an arm and the albatross hopped atop it, beak going to - and into - his ear. To onlookers it seemed almost like the bird was chewing out its earwax, but it was evident that the seabird was somehow whispering to Otodus. The pirate nodded, gave a jewelled ring to the bird, then carried it to the side of the ship and flung it overboard. After that, he returned to the wheel, without comment, as the sun began to set over the horizon.

The clouds had begun to gather, and they shimmered pink as they poorly reflected the deep orange glow of the setting sun. The water was orange too, and a cool breeze began to roll in. "Too early," he muttered under his breath, his living eye scanning the horizon with a hint of wariness.

Havoc spends much of the afternoon in the galley, emerging at lunch to bring crewmates their meals, and going over stores to make a catalogue of the ship's supplies, enlisting Annie, if the Captain allows it, to assist in these tasks. They grimace at the apparent lack of a ship's cat—hopefully whatever killed the Captain's old crew off did the same to the vermin. Otherwise, a river rat always has traps at the ready for her smaller nautical kindred.

As the sun sets, Havoc clambers up the netting to get a better view, watching the waters burst into flame. They seem entranced at the sight—a moth lost in the glow of an evening lamp. They hang there for a long few minutes in perfect silence.

Annie turned around as the captain speaking. She thought it was interesting what he had to say. She heard the captain give orders to other people. She walked up to the captain and said in a nervous voice,” Captain, my name is Annie. I was wondering, what do you want me to do?” -Dances-

"Stick close," said the captain, under his breath. He put his eye to Annie and gave her a serious nod, and gestured with his hand out towards the horizon. "Each wave heralds new peril. The sharks are circling, both literal and other, just beyond our sights. Too early, much too early." The last part he seemed to mutter to himself, irritated, and he gritted his misaligned teeth together in frustration.

"Pray to stars and slumbering sea-angels that your sword is sharply honed," the captain advised Annie. "There is battle on the horizon. A decision must be made. Nightfall comes." The captain threw his good eye to Havoc, hanging about the rigging. Putting finger and thumb to war-ravaged mouth, Otodus whistled to the person.

"All hands on deck," he told them, so that they may spread the order throughout the ship.

Ulysses nodded along as his savior spoke, but found himself encroached upon by the elf before he could consider that word, handsaw . Had he heard it before? He couldn't say.

To Sin he looked pleadingly, giving a weak smile, and then another sigh of relief as she gestured for his release. Free of Havoc's grip he crumpled to the deck, his legs having turned to jelly from the fear of being thrown back overboard. Ulysses then found himself kneeling in a way that could almost be read as deferential had he not just collapsed, and so briefly bowed his head as the cook asked his name and Otodus gave a brief introduction.

"U-Ulysses," he stuttered, clearing his throat. "Thank you, both of you."

As the captain retreated Ulysses stood and gave a polite nod to both Havoc and Sin - perhaps missing the best opportunity for those two to introduce themselves - and then turned to the sea and planted his elbows on a railing to watch the water. He was left without assignment for the duration of Otodus' meeting, and so passed some time by rolling rudimentary cigarettes from the contents of a shiny silver case out of his trousers pocket.

He was smoking one of the cigarettes when Otodus emerged. He nodded again at his nomination to the crow's nest and, holding the dart firmly between his lips, did scramble up the mast with little difficulty. Finding himself a bit cramped at the top he realized he would be quite more useful with a telescope, but elected not to return to the deck, perhaps out of sheer laziness.

Ulysses nearly dozed off several times before the afternoon came and the blistering heat finally did put him to sleep. It must have been only a moment, because he was startled back to consciousness by the lit end of his fourth or fifth cigarette tumbling out from his lips and onto his chest. He fumbled it up and away into a particularly strong gust of wind before resuming his duty.

Wide awake but bored senseless by the unchanging nature of the ocean, Ulysses' eyes were locked to the horizon for hours. Even the albatross failed to register when it crossed his field of vision, and he continued to stare numbly into the evening until the serenity of his station was broken by the captain's whistling.

Annie replied with a smile,”Yes captain.” She stepped closer to the captain and listen to what he had to say about the waves and about the animals in the sea. She knows she needs to
learn a lot on this adventure. She nodded as a response. She really likes this captain.

Then the Captain told her that she has to stars and slumbering sea-angels that your sword is sharply honed and told her that a there is battle on the horizon. A decision must be made. Nightfall comes. She responded in a calm voice,”Sir, my sword is sharp, I am an archer and I have powers. I am ready to fight if needed to.” She felt excitement when the captain called all hands on deck.
