Great chapter. You really have a knack for writing.
However, when Rois was burning it says the scream would deafen the banshee which doesn't make much sense seeing as the banshee only screamed loudly. She didn't have inpentrable ears. ;)

Yoh, I am so sorry about the error I made regarding the anatomy of the banshee O_o . I'll try and rewrite it soon.
Oh, and thank you for the praise. Glad to know somebody's reading.
I noticed you're also a part of the Novelists Guild, and I was wondering if I could apply for Wrath of the Dark Empire to be a part of the library there, despite the fact it's incomplete. Sira might have mentioned it somewhere in the guide/rules stuff at the beginning, but it's a long thread and I'd rather read something entertaining. O_o

CHAPTER 5: THE IMPERIAL VISIT
Dark Empress Yahi did not arrive in the normal way on her visit to Al Kharid. Her convoy arrived early, at midday, but inside her sedan chair was merely the statue of Thammaron. Rois cursed the Empress’ madness under his breath, and ordered the statue be put in the throne room. Rois supervised the readying of the town for Yahi’s visit, and, once all was done, went to the throne room. He looked at the onyx statue. The statue looked back, unwavering, past Rois, into the endless chasms of space, its emerald eyes glowed orange with sunlight. All of a sudden, the light from the setting sun was blocked by a shadow.
“He is impressed with the conquest Rois.” A shrill voice that could only belong to one person cut through the silence of the air.
“My lady,” Rois turned and knelt, “We assumed you were not coming.”
Yahi’s head twitched a few times in quick succession, like a buoy floating on a lake, before she explained in a rather maniac voice.
“Teleports, Rois, are wonderful things. If only our treasury was infinite, I could teleport the entire army to Sophanem to crush the Empire of Sand straight away. But, alas, I am not made of gold.”
Rois, always cynical, thought to himself that they could have afforded it if she hadn’t built all those onyx statues, but decided not to voice such a comment.
“Well, my lady, we have gathered up all the weapons from the dead soldiers of both sides – and the dead civilians – and as a result we have a large supply of weapons and armour.”
Yahi muttered something to Thammaron, who stood on the throne; her hair covered her face, only whispers could be heard. Finally, she turned to Rois.

“Give me the body count report.”

Rois took a scroll from within the folds of his silk robe he enjoyed wearing off the battlefield, a gift from General Croce. Yahi snatched it, and first showed it to Thammaron, before reading it herself. Sighs and occasional looks of disapproval met Rois’ ears. After what seemed like an hour, she spoke.
“I am glad we have a body count this time, Rois, but it’s not a very good one. What happened?”
Rois was torn. Should he mention merely the ambush, or also the far superior Empire of Sand equipment and resources? He decided to play it safe and mention only the ambush. Yahi once again conferred with Thammaron, before speaking once more.
“Thammaron says our weaponry and armour was inferior. Is this true?”
Genuinely shocked, Rois stepped back. How did the statue know? Oh well, he thought, the truth was out, might as well tell her.
“It’s also true. Our equipment, though imposing, is made of black metal. Theirs is made of a very nice green adamant which is far stronger and lighter. Second only to rune… and dragon, but that’s not army equipment.”
“I appreciate this Rois. Xib has reported similar problems when fighting those things in Morytania. Luckily, this city is the Empire of Sand capital. We can steal from their treasury and buy weapons with that. Adamant weapons all round! The old black stuff can be the spare.”
“My lady, you are too kind. May I recommend something?”
“Of course, Rois,” smiled Yahi; all of a sudden she was being totally normal, like she was before. “Please ask.”
“We are the Dark Army. Adamant is a green metal. To make it more appropriate, should we perhaps put black trim around it?”
Such a suggestion prompted Yahi to cackle a little, before giving Rois the all clear, granting him access in it’s entirety to the Empire of Sand treasury. Rois, however, found it rather lacking.

That night over dinner, he summoned up the courage to tell Yahi it was insufficient.
“My lady,” said Rois, as he wiped his mouth with the sort of quiet satisfaction that only a large meal can induce, “How long do you plan to honour us with your presence.”
Rois had decided to start on a brighter note and work his way up to the issue of funds. Yahi looked up from behind a curtain of dark hair. In the moonlight her pale skin looked almost Vampyre-like.
“Thammaron and I will be here until we get to Uzer.”
Thammaron was seated in the middle of the table; Rois was at one end, Yahi the other. He was stood there. A meal had been served for him but, being a statue, he had not touched it. Thammaron merely stood.
“My lady, Uzer is just ruins, why would you want to go there?”
“Rois,” Snapped Yahi “Don’t be insolent!”
Deathly silence fell over the dinner table, even the insects drawn by the candlelight paused. Yahi glanced at Thammaron, then back at Rois.
“I am so sorry, Rois. It seems Thammaron hasn’t told you. We’re going to Uzer to recover his jewel-encrusted throne and his skeleton, to give him a proper burial in Varrock.”
Inside his mind, Rois sighed. All of this work for some possessions that belonged to something inside Yahi’s head. Al Kharid was the easy part; the real desert was far harder to navigate. His life was at risk. Ruby had almost killed him.
“I see, my lady. Whilst we’re on the subject, my lady, I have an idea regarding tactics. You see, the Shantay Pass is well guarded and very hard to penetrate.”
“Yes, so Thammaron has told me. What do you propose?”
“I propose a trick. We have 62 suits of Al Kharid armour. Though we executed the Prince of Warfare and all other Empire of Sand officials left here, we did not kill the head of the army here.”
“Why?” Yahi screamed as she spat out a mouthful of stew “All were to be killed!”

“Please, my lady, listen. There was a reason. We could dress 62 of our men up as desert soldiers, and send this General of theirs – his name is Ruby – in with them to make it seem as if they had recaptured Al Kharid. Then, when the Shantay Guards have let their guard down,” Rois motioned a sweep of a sword with his knife, “We kill them all. Our gateway to the desert is open and we can saunter in with our army and conquer with ease.”
A malevolent grin spread across Yahi’s face. Rois waited for a reply, but she merely grinned, as still as an oak, her eyes not moving.
“Rois,” the excitement in her voice was evident, “If, and only if, you can convince this Ruby to do it, then you may proceed.”
Two wine glasses, filled to bursting with deep red, expensive wine from Draynor Village clanged over an ornate table. The lunatic and her loyal follower toasted their success before events had yet played out.

Wow (Amo looks around and hey! Several chapters :) )
I am really enjoying this- you are a natural storyteller and lead me on to the next chapter like a mouse with a piece of cheese walking blindly into the claws of kitty-kind :)
In particular "That evening, the sun’s embers disappeared before their allotted time, the sorrow of the heavens so heavy it dragged even the sun from the sky"- great imagery :D
I loved reading and I really am looking forward to see how this develops

CHAPTER 6: THE EMPIRE OF SAND MOBILIZES
The Emperor stood to address the court of the Empire of Sand. As he observed the faces round the table, he was met with the same expression of fear, with a dash of strength and optimism, written upon every face. His children had been flown to Camelot to stay with the Empress, but the Emperor – who liked to think of himself as a hero of sorts – stayed, at the secondary capital of Sophanem, to repel the Dark Empire. Around the table were various minor officials from the Dawn and Dusk Families. Many officials had been executed in Al Kharid. The only other true royal seated there was Senshio, Prince of Internal Affairs, and, since the Prince of Warfare was executed, the poor man had assumed his role. He was a tall, gangly man with typical desert complexion. Never was he without his white robes, symbols of a diplomat, which seemed so ill fitted in these times. The Emperor cleared his throat and addressed the audience.
“My fellow officials, this is a dark time for the Empire of Sand. The Dark Empire have attacked and conquered Al Kharid. The Prince of Warfare was executed. General Ruby’s fate is, as of yet, unconfirmed. Last I heard we’re still in control of the Shantay Pass. This could be subject to change. Prince Senshio, as the acting Prince of Warfare, I assume you have drawn up a plan for our defence?”
Senshio rose as the Emperor sat, and spoke with an iron resolute.
“Of course I have done my best. I have decided we shall use the Dawn Family of ever town to act as our frontline army, whereas the Dusk Family should remain posted, though alert in case of attack, in their towns. This way we can have a sturdy army and maintain the peace throughout the Empire.”
