This one is pretty good (I think). I made it a bit ago.
----

I glanced around at the trees, it was noon already and still Detan hadn't showed up.

I guess I should explain why I was here, waiting for death, more or less. We were scheduled to fight a duel, and by 'we' I meant myself, and the best mage and most rotten human being I had ever known. The duel was to have taken place at eleven-thirty, but, knowing my opponent, he was just trying to mess with my mind by coming late.

Finally the bushes by the clearing trembled and split apart, revealing the man I was to fight. He swaggered up to me, a stupid grin on his face and smelling of dead things.

He leaned over to kiss me and I jerked away, my belly turning with disgust.

"Cut it out!" I yelled at him, voice quavering in spite of myself.

"Ohhh, is the poor little girl going to cry?" he taunted, whirling his oaken staff above his head.

I screamed something obscene at him and cast a Wind spell that flew from my hands, chilling them.

He sidestepped, avoiding the swirling white ball while still wearing a smile. "That was pitiful, Filiana, you know better magic then that, surely?"

He let fly a Water spell that I managed to avoid by falling to the grass. It whipped over my head, splashing on a tree behind me and making water gush everywhere, drenching my blue robes.

I jumped back up, returning the favor via two Ice Blasts that went straight for him, their deadly power chilling the clearing. He doged the first...

And put himself right in the path of the second. It hit him, shards of ice flying around his body like knives. Quickly, before he recovered, I threw another Ice Blast, putting all my power into it.

I never saw the Mist Wave.

Suddenly something damp and wet smacked into my thigh and tendrils of fog began to rise around me. Soon I couldn't see the clearing anymore, and began to flail about in hopes of dispersing the cloud.

Then though the mist came something I COULD see... Detan's staff. It hit me in the chest, laying me flat on the ground as the fog started to clear.

As the clearing reappered I saw Detan, standing over me. "Oh Filiana, I'm so sorry about that, we wouldn't want anything to happen to the baby would we?"

I nearly began to cry, but was stopped by a thought:

You're fighting against the man who made your people exile you from your home, it said, can't you fight better then that? Yes, I thought, I can.

While he was still stooping over me I shot my foot up, catching him in the place where men are most vulnerable. He grunted and fell, as I flung a mud wave that caught him as he rolled.

Still attempting to breathe, I stumbled over to the other side of the glade, readying another spell.

He slowly got to his feet, panting.
"Why are you so mad anyway? You know you wanted to do it, it wasn't all me."

I threw a Wind Wave that he evaded easily before responding, "It WAS all you, I wanted nothing to do with you. You trapped me and forced me to do it." I rolled out of the path of a Smoke Strike, and summoned a white wolf that I turned on him.

As he fought it he talked, "You could have gotten out of it, it was your decison not to that made them throw you out."

He killed my wolf and threw a Fire Blast back at me. However, I had seen it coming, and had readied a Water Blast. I threw it, and the two spells colided in midair, my water drenching his fire, and both fizzling to nothing.

I made three Wind Blasts and talked as I cast, "My only way out was to marry you before my family saw, and I would never marry you." It was true, I could have wed Detan, and my family would have never known the child was conceived out of wedlock. However I refused, and was exiled from my village.

Detan focused on my words and didn't see the Wind spells. They hit him in the chest, knocking him over. While he was down I cast Ice spells, over and over... Maybe fifteen in all.

Finally I stopped, wondering why he wasn't returning fire. I walked warily over, holding a Fire Wave in case he was only pretending.

He wasn't.

He was dead.

I looked at myself. I had nothing anymore, no dreams, no hopes. The only path that lay ahead of me was to live alone, give birth to Detan's child, and raise it alone, loving and yet hating it. That was not something I could do.

I uttered a prayor to God, asking for his protection on what would my greatest adventure.

Then I did the deed.

An hour later a crow flew towards the clearing, drawn by the smell of death. It circled down, seeing the body of a man....

And at the other side of the clearing, the body of a girl, burned to a skeleten.
