SUMMER, DAY 33
Heading out on the trip! Gonna head east—I need to stop taking risks. If I die, and someone finds this book later, well, you know the drill. Take care of the animals for me. I’m not expecting trouble, but it is the Wilderness, after all. One lady on her lonesome is always going to look like easy pickings for whatever happens on her.

I’m so excited! Gonna fix this lantern~

Septober 3rd, Year 163 of the 5th Age.

Hi.

I... do not exactly know what I am doing here, but I found this odd cottage with a bunch of chickens inside and a black buzzing box next to the porch. I came inside and noticed this journal on the dresser next to a broken lantern and a wood carving of some odd Slayer monster.

No one else is here. One of the chickens keeps pecking my leg. I think she is trying to attack me as an intruder. Is she a she? I do not know much about chickens.

I come here from the Yanille Wizard’s Guild. (No, I will not help you pronounce it correctly; Yanillians themselves do not appear to agree on the matter.) I am a mage, adventurer and treasurehunter—what wildfolk seem to term a “wanderer”, as opposed to a “yellowjacket” or the like. I am in search of a fabled mage named Kolodion who supposedly dwells to the far north, a shapeshifter of ineffable power and cunning.

I do not know the identity of the person whose home I have entered, nor, owing to her eschewing of the Scorpian calendar, can I tell for certain how long she has been gone for or when, if ever, she shall return. Judging by the state of affairs, she appears to have locked her chickens in the house for greater security than that of the chicken coop, and I would guess it to have been in the last ten days or so, as the house remains in good condition.

I have fed the chickens. The aggressive one has ceased pecking me and has instead opted to hop into my lap and settle down. She makes pleasant chirping sounds when I pet her. I am exceedingly suspicious.

This is a strange place. I will tend to the animals, remove some supplies from the cupboards, and be on my way before the owner returns. I am not a thief, and I would not deprive the owner of too many supplies she no doubt desperately needs—but I also do not trust anyone who would willingly make their home this far north in such a Saradomin-forsaken land. She might be a fine woman. She might be mad. She might already be dead. I will take no chances.

If you are reading this, Strange Woman, I thank you for the salted pork, tea, and bottle of honey. This is the first sweetness I have tasted in what feels like months. I wish you well, and may Saradomin bless your cursed cottage and see you safely back to civilization post-haste.

Sincerely,

Elodie of Saradomin

SUMMER, DAY 44
I’m back! Wow. Okay.

I guess I had a visitor while I was gone? Thanks for the bag of seeds, Elodie! I hope you left those on purpose. I can’t wait to find out if any of them can grow up here. And thanks for watering the rosebush! It’s looking gorgeous .

That was a rough trip. Nothing happened, but a few really close calls. Way too close. I definitely made the right call taking the long but safe way.

Let’s see…

- I think I saw a dark beast revenant. It was a long ways away, and the mists play tricks… I dunno. The ones that don’t go into the caves, the really, really old ones, they’re almost like sleepwalkers. You don’t risk getting closer. You don’t want to wake them up.

- I met up with Edmond! Apparently business has been pretty slim lately. Capers have a weird role up here, don’t they? The yellowjackets obviously need their pretty yellow coats, so they aren’t going to risk making trouble for the capers. The hobgoblins and dwarves got used to them years ago. It feels like even the revs ignore them more often than not.

- Had to run from a couple skeletons. Well, more like a dozen. Don’t they have anything better to do? If I was dead, I feel like I’d have better things to do than try to gut random passersby.

- Mavren’s dead. Spiderbite. The Boneyard Kinshra are led by Eljius now, which is good for me. Eljius is a lot more careful. They told me to steer clear and I did.

The return trip was easier. No revs, no Kinshra, no skeletons. It was nice and quiet. I like the quiet walks. Nobody can hear me singing out there. It beats the quiet here.

SUMMER, DAY 45

Had to have a little rest day. I’m just so tired. I’ve been doing so much lately, but there’s always, like, a crashing point. I don’t always realize how much things are weighing on me until I’m on the floor. I need a day.

Got jumped during my patrols by a straying spider. Nearly got bit. Raked me pretty bad with its talons. I managed to kick it back and put a bolt in its eye, and it skittered off. I’ll have to keep an eye out for that thing now. I wonder if it trailed me back from the trip.

SUMMER, DAY 47

I've finished the lantern! Guthix, it feels incredible to have that done. It looks so cool, and now I don't have to use the two glowballs when I go on patrols anymore! They look nicer hanging over my desk, anyways.

Otherwise, today was boring. Chased a couple giant rats away from the coop, and scared away a pack of wolves who had been straying a little. Pretty uneventful.

SUMMER, DAY 50

The lantern lens ended up being this pretty blue color—I found a patch of silvery sand that gave me a really gorgeous hue—and it makes the whole cottage just glow . It's already my favorite lamp to take outside! I guess I only had two lamps to begin with, though, if you count both the glowballs.

I think the rosebush is getting ready to bloom. I need to get some extra soil for these new seeds—a couple of them have sprouted in their jars. No idea where I'll find soil, though. I don't have enough compost to grow more than maybe one of them.

The alternative is to try to dig deep enough down to get at some deep soil that isn't poisoned. That's kind of a risk, but... I dunno. Maybe worth a try?

SUMMER, DAY 78
Wow, I haven't written any entries in here for a while. I didn't realize it's been so long. Um, so, first, Bella's dead. She was always such a calm bird, way too calm for the Wildy. A giant spider must have snuck into the camp in the early morning and got her. That sort of broke my routine for a while.

It's hard, you know? Up here, you have so few friends, you end up holding dumb funerals for chickens. Hope she didn't die in battle. Hate for her to become a chicken revenant.

At least Nautilus and Fairy are doing okay, and I still have plenty of eggs every morning!

Last month I also saw He

I had some visitors from the Bandit Camp last month. I guess that sort of rattled me. She hardly ever They don't usually bother me, is all.

The good news is, I was thinking about digging up some soil last entry? Well, a little voice in my head told me to take the risk, and it worked! Got a little good soil before I hit bedrock, and turns out the seeds have taken. Still not totally sure what all of them are. I think two of them might be herbs of some kind? That could be big. I could go see if the druids are willing to trade some potion reagents. Not holding my breath, but...
