I’ve been keeping a low profile, not wandering as much as usual. I can’t fight so good right now. Leg infected. Having the bad dreams again. Guthix, it’s so humid , I can’t even breathe. I feel like someone stuffed a steaming cabbage into my skull. Going outside to feed the girls today was like swimming through ash. Hot, wet, sloppy ash.

I'm fresh out of medicine. Gave the last of the good stuff to that caper last spring, haven't been able to get more. I guess it's up to my leg to fight this off. But it would help IF I COULD BREATHE.

I wonder what the Moon tastes like. It's probably very chalky. Or like lead. Or just dirt like us. We're all just dirt in the end. Just dirt and sunlight and water. Mud and fire. That's just fired clay. No difference between me and the pot the rosebush lives in, really. Except the pot does something useful, and all I seem to be doing is dying.

Dreams getting worse. My leg feels like someone cut it off, tossed it in a pit of scorpions, and then reattached it still covered in scorpions. I can’t think straight. Spiders crawling from the folds of blossoming cabbage heads. I can almost see them even when I’m awake. I can’t breathe. It’s so hot, but if I open the windows, ash comes in. Is there anywhere in the world not choking in burnt poison?

The dogs are howling again. They’re going to get my chickens, but they aren’t counting on me. I’ll rip them apart.

I’m back!

Holy mother of pearl, that was… wow. What the heck did I write in here? The bandits almost gutted me, but Heather owes me like, twenty favors. Ten now, she says. So Noterazzo just took all my money and sold me the herbs. Someone must’ve taken care of me, but I woke up in the dust, so… maybe my immune system worked itself out? Maybe I just forgot doing it myself?

I was totally out of it when I started walking to the camp. It was like walking through a dream. I got lucky. Like, crazy lucky. I can’t cut it that close. I’ll keep the rest of the herbs on hand in the pantry in case it happens again.

Oh my gosh I need to go check on the chickens! It’s been at least a week! Hope they're okay. They're gonna be so cranky if I forgot to leave them some food.

I found an old lantern in the ruins today! I bet I can fix it up here, though I may need to do an outing to the coast to get some seaweed.

Oh, and something funny—on my way home, I noticed there’s two sets of tracks leading back to the cottage. Did someone come with me from the Bandit Camp?

Nautilus laid an egg today! That makes two this summer! Pity I’m fresh out of flour. Still, I got to eat something other than salted meat and and rosehip tea.

I think I was supposed to cook it? Oh well. Still yummy!

I’ve been wondering where those jackets went to. I know they probably got killed by the dragons or something, but… I dunno. It makes me nervous. I wasn’t around to keep an eye on things these last couple weeks. Who knows what could have happened? I hope they’re long gone. I’m happy to help wanderers and traders and capers, but YJs are always bad news.

Still, I'm playing it safe. Casting an extra-wide net in my patrols, I guess you could say. No sign of them!

Oh, the lantern's coming along nicely. I definitely need to blow a new lens, though. Guess that means a trip east.

Honestly, I’m really torn choosing the route. I’m so excited for this lantern being done, though. Is it worth the risk all the way to the eastern coast? I’d be leaving my home for at least a week or two.

If I went north, I’d be back within a couple days. But that would mean crossing the fence. I could say hi to Darren on my way, and it wouldn’t be too bad as long as I hewed close to the obstacle course. I might even meet a wanderer or too.

But that’s wolf territory. And yellowjacket territory—not to mention the Bentley crew being right next door. And it's... it's Level 50+, easy. How lucky do I really feel here?

Really pretty sunrise today! The sun cuts and bleeds into the sky like a knife slicing up from the east horizon. The way the haze burns is… it’s nice. Sitting on my blanket in the snow up the hill, watching the light seep in…

It’s been a nice day so far. Peaceful. I finished fixing the damage to the lantern, and I found my old glassblowing pipe—now all that’s left is to head to the beaches and look for seaweed, I guess. Maybe some white sand, if I’m lucky. I’ll head out tomorrow. I still feel worried about leaving the house alone again with those yellowjackets unaccounted, you know?

Well, you don’t know, I guess. You’re just a book. I just wish you could tell me what your last owner was up to.
