Well, since it seems someone is actually reading this story, I suppose I can update again. :) "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."

Orcris gasped in surprise. He was standing in a temple, impossibly ancient, and carved into the living stone of the cavern where it was built.

“So this is it…” said Taika, obviously also in awe of the structure before her, “The Temple where the legendary Stone of Jas is concealed.” Orcris frowned, he could detect the eagerness in her voice; in all likelihood, Taika was not about to destroy the stone when they found it.

“Well let’s find it!” exclaimed Rose, walking past a large stone circle similar to the one found in Taverly.

“Is that a doorway?” asked Orcris, noting the large opening Rose was walking into. Taika shrugged, but began following Rose into the opening.

“My… what idiots.”

Aion le’Colombe was sitting in the recesses of the temple, watching the Zarosians walk into the doorway.

“They really don’t notice that the Stone hasn’t been here for a couple of months, or that they have company? Oh well, no problem, I guess.”

With a wave of his hand, Aion caused the door to close and lock behind the Zarosians.

“Well, you’re having fun aren’t you, Aion?”

Aion turned; a look of severe annoyance on his face. “Rue,” he spat the word more than said it.

“In the flesh,” replied the boy standing nearby. His age was indeterminate; he was tall enough to be an adolescent, but still had retained a more boyish appearance. Despite this, his black dragonhide armor and the abyssal whip loosely coiled around his arm gave away that he was no amateur adventurer.

Aion glared at Rue, who was paying more attention with fixing his deep red hair than Aion’s murderous glare. When he had apparently finished with his hair, Rue turned and faced Aion, his red-violet eyes meeting with Aion’s blood red.

“What?” asked Rue, “You seem mad to see me.”

“And I have quite the reason to be, don’t I?” asked Aion.

Rue smiled to himself. “I have to go rescue my fellow Zarosians, but first I thought I’d let you know, Cruus has been captured by us, yet again. Pass it on to the right person, will you?”

Aion’s face twisted in rage, and he opened his mouth to speak, but was quickly pinned to the wall by Rue.

“Isn’t this pleasant?” asked Rue, “Since I look so much like Cruus, this is probably fun for you, right, Aion? After all, let’s not forget, I know who you really are.”

Aion closed his eyes, and spoke, yet this time, while his voice remained sounding like that of a boy, the happy-go-lucky type of innocence had disappeared from it entirely. “Firstly,” Aion began, “You may look like Cruus, but your attitude, your personality, and your spirit marr that resemblance. Secondly, if you really knew who I was, you wouldn’t dare get so close to me.” Aion’s eyes snapped open, now a strange combination of color; a dark purple at their tops which faded to a soft pink at the bottom. “Back off,” commanded Aion, simultaneously summoning a burst of darkness which knocked Rue into the temple wall.

Rue flinched, his head was throbbing, and he could feel a trickle of blood running down the back of his neck.

“Let me explain something to you,” said Aion, walking slowly toward Rue. Rue felt his body go cold as he noticed that Aion’s shadow was writhing like thousands of dark serpents.

“Your power is very finite; any protections you think you have are nothing; the only reason you are still alive today is that I have been very forgiving, and that your brother, despite everything you have done to him, has begged me not to kill you. However, Rue, even my patience has limits. Eventually, I will be too annoyed by you to honor your brother’s request.” Aion turned away from Rue, as if to leave, something the injured boy took full advantage of, grabbing his whip and tried to swing, but found his arm was weighed down. Looking down, he gasped in terror, finding a large black snake coiling around his arm. Rue knew the type of snake from a glance; it was an extremely venomous species, few bitten by it lived more than a few minutes afterward.

“You’re not a very good listener,” sighed Aion, looking back. “Go, rescue your little allies, I imagine their having a hard time with Lucien’s pets, but Rue… if Cruus is badly injured, you will wish I was merciful enough to kill you.” Without waiting for a reply, Aion snapped his fingers, causing a large dark cloud to cover him for a moment as he teleported away.

After he had left, the snake uncoiled itself from Rue’s arm and slithered away, apparently no longer interested in the boy.

“You ticked him off again?”

Rue found himself staring at a young man with white hair and cold grey eyes. A sheathed sword, the style of those from the eastern land hung from his belt.

“Isamu!” exclaimed Rue, “Where were you just now?*

*You think I’m getting involved in a fight between you and Aion?” asked Isamu, a hint of amusement in his voice, “I mean, Rue, your important to me and all, but getting both of us killed doesn’t do anyone any good.”

“I could take him,” muttered Rue.

“I’m sorry; is this the same Aion we’re talking about?” asked Isamu, “The one called ‘The Thaumaturge’? The Lord of Serpents, the Prince of Nightmares, the Ruler-“

“I know his titles!” snapped Rue, “Still, I could best him!”

“Of course you could,” sighed Isamu, “Except he is a Maoh, a... how do you say it in the common language? Oh yes, an archdevil, a being that has transcended your race.

Well, enough about that, we should probably help the group that just walked into Aion’s trap. Can you teleport us inside the door?”

Rue grinned. “Easily, whenever you’re ready.”

Orcris frowned as he dodged yet another ball of fire. This was quite the trap; he either had to pull close to a group of demons engulfed in flames, and howling in rage and agony, or wander to the edges of the room, where three skilled warriors were waiting for him. Either way he was in for a tough fight.

Steeling himself, the half elf dashed toward one of the demons, narrowly dodging a slash from one of the demon’s razor sharp claws, but nonetheless breaking free toward the other group. He quickly scanned his enemies and picked out the one that looked weakest; the slim boy with white hair. Orcris sped toward the boy and attacked, but was surprised when the boy effortlessly dodged, moving with an agility that surpassed even the most skilled elvin warrior. Orcris pressed the attack, but the boy was as nimble as a cat, dodging every swing with skill and grace. As Orcris’ frustration had reached a peak, the boy leaped forward, slashing into Orcris’ side with nothing more than his fingernails. The half elf gasped in pain and felt blood stream down his side.

“Too bad,” said the boy, “But I have to end this little fight now.” He raised his hand to slash at the half elf again, but was interrupted as a massive explosion threw the demons to the ground. Orcris turned to find Taika and Rose standing at what had been the center of the explosion.

“Well, that was annoying,” sighed Taika, looking at the ashes that had once been demons, “And I have a feeling there are more coming… Well ignoring that, it** been a while, Sven.”

“You know her, Sven?” asked Jun.

“I might,” Sven replied, licking the back of his hand lazily.

“Kitty!” exclaimed Rose, tackling Sven to the ground. Sven smiled and replied with a soft meow; which just made Rose more hyper.

“Will someone explain to me exactly what is going on?” demanded Orcris.

“Well, this is Sven, “ said Taika, pointing at the white haired boy, “He is a ghost cat, a type of Fey. Oh, and he is also one of Rhyn Brona’s familiars.”

“He’s also fairly strong, and since the Stone of Jas is no longer here, there’s no point in fighting them,” a new voice proclaimed.

A burst of flame appeared in the center of the room, and a boy with blood red hair and red-violet eyes stepped out of it.

“Who the heck are you?” demanded Jun.

“Don’t worry, I’m not here to fight,” replied the boy. Turning to Orcris he added, “I’m Rue, a Zarosian, like yourself. Since the stone of Jas is not here, Caihoc requested I teleport you to one of our fortresses for a debriefing.”

“Very well,” said Orcris.

*Excellent,” said Rue, “Now then, here we go.”

Flames surrounded Rue and the other Zarosians. A moment later they had vanished.

“So those were are enemies,” mused Daefon.

“Well, ignoring them, the “hand of the earth god” isn’t here, so we should get a move on,” decided Jun, “Sven, get us out of here.”

The ghost cat (who was now once again in cat form) nodded and a mist filled the room. Jun felt a familiar sense of vertigo, and the sensation of being pulled somewhere before the world changed around her.

I keep forgetting that I can post. Good work Aqua, it seems that the characters are getting more like people than before. It was your own major flaw before that I can think of, it is now gone so I take off my hood to you. *Everyone in the room gasps*. On second thought I'll just keep it on.

“Welcome to Norolic Yfel!” exclaimed Rue, gesturing at the walls of the large fortress that he and the other Zarosians had appeared in. “This is the largest of our northern bases, and although the mahjarret builders’ aesthetic sense, or lack thereof leaves much to be desired in this place’s design, the fortress is sturdy.”

Orcris looked around, and felt he had to agree with Rue’s analysis of the fortress. The structure was strictly utilitarian, built primarily from stone blocks several feet thick in any direction. As Rue went out about the capabilities and history of the fortress, Orcris allowed himself a half smile, apparently his elvin blood was still strong, as he actually had considered the looks of a fortress in addition to its capabilities. He was about to ask Rue what Caihoc wanted to debrief them on when he noticed a pile of rags lying in the center of the room. Curious, he approached them, and found to his surprise that what he had mistaken for a pile of rags in the dim light of the fortress was… well, some form of demon, clad in rags, possessing both the leathery wings and the pointed tail that were considered identifying features of all demons, but otherwise appearing like a young human male. To make this discovery all the more strange, the demon’s hair, though matted with dirt and disheveled, seemed the same blood red as Rue’s hair, and his eyes, which were both glazed over and unfocused were the same red-violet color as Rue’s.

“Ah, I see you found my brother Cruus,” said Rue, grinning broadly. Gripping his apparent brother by the collar of his tattered shirt, Rue pulled Cruus to a sitting position. “Cruus,” he said mockingly, “We have guests, say hello.” Cruus, his head swaying unsteadily muttered something that did*’t sound anything like hello before Rue dropped him to the ground. Orcris flinched in spite of himself, Zarosian or not, he had a hard time believing anyone could act like that to their own relatives.

“Oh, I want whatever he’s having!” exclaimed Rose excitedly.

Orcris sighed deeply; apparently Rose had noticed that the kid was heavily drugged.

“Go ask Shiriden,” replied Rue, “She’s our apothecary, and is probably in her office, down in the dungeons, oh, and feel free to play with our pets down there before you visit Shiriden’s office.”

“I will!” exclaimed Rose, “But, fooey, there’s a problem with the dungeons.*

*What, you afraid of the dark or something?” asked Rue.

“No, it’s just, you see, everything happening in the dungeons is very interesting, and I want to look at it,” said Rose, “But if the author were to write down what I saw, and post it on the forums he would probably get a perma-ban for posting inappropriate, offensive and obscene material. So that means he won’t be writing about me, and as a result I won’t be in the spotlight!” Rose had clearly meant this to be a declaration of a grave injustice, but all her fellow Zarosians could do is stare at her, wondering if she had already been consuming something more powerful than whatever she was about to get from the apothecary.

“What?” questioned Rose, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Is she always like this?” asked Rue.

“Crazy and spewing nonsense?” asked Taika, “That pretty much sums her up.”

“I see,” muttered Rue, eying Rose with newfound caution.

“Well, whatever!” shouted Rose, “I’m going to the dungeon then!” And so she stormed off.
